Accord sports with 6MT is a true sleeper. But Accord is much heavier than the CTR and that 2.0T is K20C5, which differs a lot in terms of internal parts and turbo from the CTR K20C1.
1st off, that lady was awesome & the summary was spot on. The CTR is great for what it is, but the SS 1LE is easily the best performance bargain available today. FWIW, there’s no difference in throttle mapping between tour & sport. Track is more linear than either of them & feels less punchy by design.
Super late but i notice a difference in the throttle mapping between sport and tour so i'd be interested to discover there really isnt any but your right the track mapping does feel less punchy. Kind of annoying actually as I would like some lower end punch in track mode
@@Chasethe1le wow that's really weird because track mode in my '17 feels SUPER punchy. I mean even in neutral I just tap it and it jumps to redline instantly. And there's no delay whatsoever from when my foot touches that pedal to where is filling them cylinders with air and fuel, like I kind of feel in sport mode. When I'm driving it I have to be way more careful when I'm in track mode, than I do when I'm in sport mode because I just touch that pedal and it hits man. It feels more than linear, it feels like if my pedal is 1/4 way down, it's actually almost at full throttle. "Feels" like that, but saying it is. And it's instant response. Sport feels laggy in comparison. My car isn't 100% stock, so maybe it feels different. It has a tune, cold air intake, long tube headers, no cats, npp. It was like this when I got it, I don't know much about the tune, maybe that could be playing a part in it as to why I think it feels the way I do. Who knows. That's just how mine feels to me is all

@@xsixinfantryx Yea i guarantee its the tune. Mines a 22 and still not even past the break in but i've driven a tuned 19 and track was the most aggressive. I'm sure track mode from stock is tuned that way for a reason. Likely optimizing a target range that you will find yourself in more at a track. Most of the laggy feeling is on the lower end 1-2k rpm then the power builds. Ill eventually get a tune if i go the way of heads/cam etc.
I had a 2020 Type R just like in the video - The review sums it up nicely - dynamics are fantastic for FWD car. However, the quality/design flaws are still there for 2020. Mine had a horrible transmission with 1-2 grind and a 5-4 lockout. I never tracked mine but according to forums people are still having overheating problems with the 2020. Ended up selling it and going back to RWD with a C5 Z06.
Mine has never overheated. The 1 to 2 grind is only a problem when you shift under hard throttle. I haven't noticed the 5 4 lock out yet either. I believe you. I just haven't experienced that with mine.
I can't think of another car that can top that Camaro in terms of $/performance, but it's hard to match the practicality of a hot hatch nowadays. As good as the Type R is on track, I'm even more amazed at how good it is on the road, Honda has come a long way from the original EK9. Trice is a natural in front of the camera, I hope we'll see her again in season 2!
If you're a car guy, like me, you love rims and a great set of rims makes a car look great and without a doubt the 1LE rims look amazing right up there with the 2015 Z28 rims those were also great looking rims.
I have 4 kids left at home and have no issues with a full weeks haul worth of food in the trunk of my SS 1LE and have room to spare. Trunk opening size is only a limiting factor in it but that is a rare issue. I can say the Type R is a very nice car and would love to have one too.
You didn't mention the track warranty that the Camaro comes with. As long as the car is not modded, you break it on track and Chevy pays to fix it. How about the Type R?

In the hands of a capable driver from stop light to stop light or ideally on a big boy road course the Camaro SS 1LE would absolutely obliterate the Civic in any performance metric. Be it a base Civic or Type R with the exception of fuel economy. Here you have the magic of video editing implying that a Civic Type R is almost as capable as a Camaro SS 1LE. Complete and utter B.S.
I've owned several different cars and trucks, I grew up in a Chevrolet family which didn't really influence me for the most part, it was really what GM put out that got my attention the most.Monte Carlo SS,Grand National and of course Camaro SS!! Out of all the cars in the world performance wise, the Camaro is my go to Hot Rod, and I'm on my way to #3 Camaro 1SS1LE, hopefully it gets built.
As a Camaro (ZL1) owner I can testify to the shortcomings of the cargo area. Specifically the trunk opening's odd shape making loading and unloading a sometimes frustrating experience despite there being quite a bit of usable space in the trunk. And the back seats are big enough for children or small adults only. But unless I have to pick my girlfriend's kids up from school that's never an issue anyway. I love the Camaro. But also having owned a "hot hatch" (Mazdaspeed 3) I can certainly appreciate the utility that comes with the Civic. Although I think that if I were in the market for a hot hatch again i'd most likely be considering a Focus RS or Golf GTI.
I went to Honda to buy a type R. No one greeted me, had to find a sales manager, and he acted like it was a GTR Nismo. Walked in to Chevy got greeted, test drive. Drove off in a metallic silver 1le at msrp. Nice car Honda but the markup and Dealership attitude..trippn
Might I add, I showed up in a 2017 Focus RS. So they should have already known I was there to do business 😭 bye bye Ford. Almost went with the BMW M2, but the yearly ownership cost of the 1le won my business.
Sorry about that man. That sucks :( I had the total opposite experience with my Honda dealer. I got my 2019 Honda Civic Type R at MSRP. The dealer did the financing and everything over the phone and they even sent a driver to pick me and my family up over an hour away! I am LOVING my Type R. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. The great service was the icing on an already delicious cake. Again sorry about your experience.

I LOVE that Honda Civic Type R that is why I bought one. Just drove around today to run some errands and nothing beats that sweet shifting Honda Civic Type R 6 speed manual. We live in a great time where these cars exist but it will not last forever. Bottom line, it you see a modern internal combustion sports car you like find a way to get it more sooner than later because once they are gone, good luck. Another reason why I love my CTR because I know it will last. I have no interest in modding it or getting a tune. If I want to go faster I have Forza. Great job with the video. Subscribed! BTW I am a dad with a wife and kid. I had a Honda CRX in high school and now I am back in the Honda family.

The CTR is definitely a great car! Japanese vs American ways of seeing daily drivers that's also are really great sports/track cars. Lol a 4 cylinder, small compact 4 door hatchback vs a huge V8 2 door coupe. But at the end of the day, for the money of a CTR, it's a no brainer to get a SS-1LE!!! The Camaro has more personality and fun factor being a big fat coupe with a V8 under the hood! Also to mention how the 1LE is untouchable on track when it comes to price to performance!! The Camaro actually surprised me how good it was in these tests considering its size and set up.
I've got this exact car, picked it up a couple of months ago. I absolutely love it, just drive one and you get what the car's all about. It really feels like a steal for the price.
As a type r owner the 1le driver needed drivermod, she was running with TC on the whole time and even bogged the launch against the type r LOL. But she did make good solid points when talking.
I love the Type R but it is no match for the 1LE. The numbers out there don't lie, the 1LE is in supercar territory at the track, no quite the Type R. The video was fun but it did not reflect reality for the autocross part. The 1LE has had some great results and with the right tires and driver, it is unbeatable.
The 1LE is great bang for the buck and a really fun car to drive as well! Not sure if it qualifies as supercar territory though. The ZL1 1LE is a different story though.

Before I was able to afford my then new 1993 Camaro Z28, I owned a new 1988 Civic LX. Was loads of fun, and despite me knowing that it was no threat at all to a Mustang 5.0, I'd chase them down anyway, and when I lost, I told them "You're lucky you have 4 extra cylinders!" But damn, today there is a Civic capable of blowing away those old 90's monsters and giving a far closer challenge to the monsters of today, and that's simply amazing!

All things considered the Camaro 1le is the best bang for the buck. The lap time was more than 3 seconds faster. That’s an eternity. I have a 2019 Camaro SS 1le and love it. It’s not the fastest car but it’s REALLY good. Also, these cars are bone stock vehicles and aftermarket parts will make a big difference. The GM platform can go from 455hp to well into the 600hp range with just a few reasonably priced mods. (Long tubes, E85, and tune). The Civic is a 90’s ricer’s DREAM but will require a lot of money keeping up beyond the stock platform. Cool comparison but not surprised about the outcome. Have Randy Post drive these and the difference will be even greater.
couldnt agree more. anything above the 500hp mark on the civic youre playing with fire the engine doesnt have problems. not to mention the wheel hop from the FWD with added power. the overheating issues, gear grinding or lockout. even with aftermarket mods the R still wouldnt sound as good as a stock SS. only reason someone should buy and R over the Camaro is if you need the 4 door hatchback.

Yeah, and on top of that, the camaro has a transmission cooler from factory and the rear differential also has a cooler. Big brembo brakes, factory wheels are forged, Recaro seats, magnetic ride suspension, and the Tremec TR6060 transmission is a beast with a torque capacity of over 700 ft lbs. There is a lot of go fast goodies in that 1LE! You start figuring in all the R&D from the nurburgring that GM has done and its no wonder its smoking cars that cost waaay more $!
As a now former 2021 CTR owner cross shopping “the best track car sub $50k,” this was a great video. I know the Camaro is a great bit heavier, but there’s no way a stock CTR could be that close in a drag race from a stop; 0-60mph in the Camaro is 4.3 seconds and a very good driver could do a 5.1-5.2 in a type r. The type r was extremely difficult to launch and get going from a standstill. Always bouncing all over the place in 1st. I also noticed a prl bit under the hood of the type r, and wonder if the car was also running a tune. A Hondata tune greatly helps with traction. The civic is a wonder of practicality, even compared to other hot hatches like the focus rs. The type r swallowed up everything, bikes, luggage, etc and was much easier to “haul” stuff in than a focus rs. However, it was always impossible to find a type r for sticker, so it’s really not a $39,999 car. While I regret selling my type r, I’ve waited too long for my zl1 1le and think the ss 1le will get me back on track.
The Camaro ways 600lbs heavier and gets just 2 less MPG Highway than the Honda. 26mpg vs. 28mpg. Honda should be getting a lot more MPG than just 28. Thats just sad.
I have the 2017 2SS Fifty edition. 6.2L 6 speed manual. 455hp. Just like to point out there is plenty of cargo room in this car. The back seats fold forward creating a deck that goes right into the trunk. I absolutely love the 6th gen Camaro.
The R is a D-Street Car in AutoX, SLE is B-Street. R winning means tires and/or driver is better, not that the R is a more capable car. OEM SLE tires are pretty slow to warm up, esp. at 10C, but when they do the car is surprisingly agile.
I just seen a new Camaro at the gas station and I was talking with the owner and they had their 22yr old kid in the back seat. So it's usable. If you can only own 1 vehicle and that's it then the civic but if you own a second or even third vehicle like a truck or suv the answer is definitely Camaro.
Same. Just bought a black 2019 with 2500mi in October. I love it. However I live right outside Philly and the stock conti tires are no good in the cold weather. I should’ve got some Michelin all seasons or something. Cheers on your CTR man.
Love both cars but besides the 4 doors/hatchback, slightly better fuel economy and slightly better resale value, the 1le is definitely the better car. both are equally reliable, both handle extremely well but the camaro has more power/torque from factory and better platform to continue to mod for more power. also sounds better from factory than the R would even with mods. Not to mention no gear grinding and RWD for drifting fun and better launches.
Slightly better resale value? My Type R is worth more than I paid for it 2 years ago. Also, I've put less than 2k in parts into it and now eat camaros for lunch and shit out mustangs😂
@@ryant114 my camaro is going for about 2-4k more than what I paid for it. I know as I'm looking to sell it to purchase the z06 c8 when it comes out. All I gotta say is that it's not the best time to even compare resale prices right now with the manufacturing and chip shortages. Most cars are selling for a lot more right now, including cars that should have depreciated alot
@@Kev2980 You want to know the difference? The 2017 Type R in 2019 before the chip shortage and pandemic was doing the same thing. They were going for 3-5k over new MSRP. While new ones were going for 5-20k over MSRP with very few dealers selling it for exactly MSRP. Good guess though.

Lets not forget Maros and Mustangs come available with optional 10 spds for faster shift times so in the end.... no the Civic is NOT better than the Camaro. The Honda is a GREAT car but considering theyre both relatively close in price the Chevy is the better bang for your buck unless you need 4 doors. Im in the Type R group on FB and more than half the owners in there end up swapping wheels and tires, upgrading the exhaust and adding performance parts for more power. Not to mention cooling since theyre known to overheat if tracking it. Meanwhile from factory the Camaro, looks good, sounds good and has good power right out of the box. No need to do anything really unlike the type r. Again I love the R but the Camaro is the better platform unless you need 4 doors. The type R IS the best FWD car possibly ever but RWD will always be better just to make another point.
I pick up groceries for the 4 of us all the time in my SS 1Le and fit a 5 piece drumset with hardware in it no problem. If the Type R had a non boyracer appearance package, I would consider one. Take these cars to a larger track with serious straights and you see a huge difference.

Yeah, well, the track is a great equalizer as far as power and weight is concerned. I actually think that it is impressive for the big v8 camaro to have the track presence that it does. It's almost expected from the type R. Then again - maybe that's my bias.
Wow, could you drive that Camaro any slower? My Q50 would have beat that 1LE the way she was driving. She bogged the launch, didn't even get the revs up, or floored the thing, and the tires weren't pushed anywhere close to their limits. The whole time I'm yelling hit the gas! Be more aggressive! WTF is this? I couldn't watch after the first so called run. I should have known which car they would have win, and which car they preferred when they showed the Civic first. It's so obvious. If the Type R was AWD, then it would be awesome. FWD sucks.
K series engines are very versatile and easy to tune for very little cost for tremendous more power. The fact the stock type R is only 2 seconds slower really shows that the civic is a monster in a cage. Type R for me. Still love the camaro as well

Stock motor will handle 650whp and cams/upgraded rods+ piston swap will take you to 850whp with track spool. The drag racers are making 1500+whp but the R is a circuit car so 850whp with quick spool is optimal Notice a 290whp Stock Type R was only 1 sec off a C8 z51 package on the roadcourse.....it doesnt take much for the car to be soooo much faster. A downpipe and e30 tune adds 100-110whp and pulls on some $$$ cars. Full bolt-ons is around 425whp - 3100lbs - simple drop in turbo upgrade 525-550whp - full kit 650+

Those are two of the best car brands for America and foreign. I’ve owned both lol. The 1LE SS Camaro is one of the best sports cars you can buy off the show room floor. Test drive fast, with a curvy road and you’ll see what I mean. The suspension and 6 piston Brembo brakes are top notch. Power to weight ratio is also amazing.

Iike this match up. I have to wait until summer to do more testing. My FWD pushes under steer. I think I need to put negative camber in front. 66% of my cars weight is up front with me in it. I had oil temperature issues last summer. But hopefully got it fixed. 400BHP 430ftlbs GTI, yes a shocker fun toy on track. I still need more seat time. I will let any experience driver drive my car on track.
I have a 17 2ss Redline (only 8k on it) and i love it. My 7 year old can get in the back and he's fine. I think it's all about what you like. Both cars are nice and the camaro is definitely a nice mix life crisis to have. I just get tired of cars like Camry's and Altimas trying to race me. It's like having a hands with no fingers, it's pointless. I just let them think they've won.
For just a weekend toy the Camaro is way better bang for the buck and has a higher ceiling for performance potential. But if you want something that can still be a good daily the Civic is the clear choice.
I agree with Ross, I've driven both and I'm thrilled with my Camaro. That Type R is a FINE car, best looking civic period. Possibly the best looking Honda (if we ignore hard-top S2000s).
I just traded in my 16 mustang GT for a 16 Camaro SS 2SS and honestly the Camaro is better . Handling is better the interior is better and the looks of the SS it's so menacing .. love this car !
Excellent vid. Prices have certainly have gone up and the base 1SS cost what a 1LE cost 4 years ago. Of course 2024 the last year for the Camaro as we know it.
In the State of California the Camaro SS is now prohibited to sell. Copper break pads are the reasons, when copper is ground to granules in fine powder for causes lung cancer high winds make breathing more difficult, as well as I it gets into the water table
Unless you are actively hauling people, you would have to be insane to get the Type R over the SS. The type R is a great car, but the sound of a V8 alone is a reason to buy the SS. If the Typer R was $5,000 cheaper, then it would be much more compelling
Wow on your lap time summary shows that the Camaro SS1LE had a faster lap compared to the Shelby GT350.👍 On other hand the Corvette C8 Z51 had a faster lap than the Camaro ZL1 1LE, thats sounds doubtful.🤔
Unfortunately the ZL1 1LE were on completely dead tires, it's optimal time was closer to 1:14-1:15. It will be back next year with fresh rubber to see what Colin can put down ;)
@@TrackAttackCanada You should also bring back the GT4 next year in PDK form. I have the SS 1LE now (with track alignment and ZL1 1LE solid rear cradle bushings upgrade) it is a dream in the corners and can pull 1.2G's on on/off ramps with fresh tires. I will be replacing it with the 2021 PDK GT4 this summer, which will also get a track alignment and rear toe links.
@@themadmachinist8637 the Camaro is heavier at about 3,300lbs but it makes 335HP which is a bit more than the Type R and it doesn’t have any turbo lag. I think it would be fairly close on the track, in a straight line I’m sure the Type R would win.

Fair enough. While they're at it, they could also get a proper launch with the Camaro for the drag. CTR in the high 13s and the Camaro should be mid 12s. Both are impressive cars. I have an SS, but I wouldn't kick the Civic out of bed for eating crackers. 😅
If you don't mind the extra 10sec, base K20C2 with 6MT can be just as fun around the track for a lot less... lack of LSD is felt in turn 9, but using the wrong pedal for the other turns works great. I'm looking forward to trying out my new EBC brakes when the season opens at TMP.
It depends on the track. Our test track doesn't reward HP very much. The Civic wouldn't get much gains with a tune here. The 6th gen Camaro with the 1LE package will keep up in the corners with any other sports car out there. GM actually did a really good job with this model.
Rather than paying the extra money tacked on to the CTR in 2019, I opted for the Veloster N which was less expensive but better looking and more fun to drive IMO than the CTR, so it was a big win for me. I decided I wanted to increase my power this past fall and I wound up purchasing a 21 SS 1LE after months of research and test driving. I really miss the versatility of the Veloster N and the way it drove, bad enough that I have considered going back TBH, but all I have to do is take a drive in the SS and I change my mind. The SS is more like a purpose driven race car and the Veloster N was hatchback first. I got a smoking deal on the Camaro too and drove 800 miles just to get it. I still have to pick up my daughter from school every day and whenever she has friends ride along it's a challenge but it is one hell of a fun car for the money. I don't think I could actually trade it in on another 4 popper no matter how much I miss my old friend the Veloster N.
LOL that is one heck of a power mod. If you ever have a chance to attend a track day you should do it. You will not believe the performance from the SS 1LE. The street and or back roads do not do this car justice.
You never drove a Type R if you think the Veloster handled better. Or you were on something LOL. Honda specifically built the best handling FWD car EVER produced. Look at every track time and the CTR destroys the Veloster every time. The Veloster N is in the same league as a Honda Civic SI..
Ok, loved the video, BUT last time I checked a race from the Dig and a race from a Roll are 2 different types of races. So in the real world it was 3 to the Camaro and 2 to the Civic.
Rwd getting a better launch than fwd? Would have definitely thought that the weight above the motor providing better traction gives the advantage to fwd...
RWD gets a better launch because as soon as the car begins moving forward the weight transfers to the back of the car. So a FWD car loses a lot of its traction while a RWD car gains traction.
