I finally got a Honda dealer to allow me to road test a new Goldwing. I rode it down one of the best winding roads in the State of Florida. Make sure to watch the outtakes at the end, they are pretty funny. Many thanks to Sonny Mylle at Love Motorsports in Homosassa Florida, www.lovemotorsportsfl.com, 352-621-3678

You couldn’t pay me to ride a Harley. I like feeling my arms and hands when I’m finished riding. Harleys shake and rattle like hell your hands are tingling from the vibration after a long ride…… they’re loud as hell….. no thanks

@@Hogdriver88 But man! Eventually one must replace these chip keys. They're so damn expensive. Personally, give me a regular key and maybe a pin-pad to input a security code if I'm so concerned about theft. I think it's more likely I will screw up with a chip key (losing, forgetting, damaging) than a thief going for this bike. Also, this electronic complexity occasionally bites. There was my wife's car and a BMW sport touring bike both of which lost their throttle function. I had to drive her vehicle to the nearest garage at idle speed and then pay nearly a grand (past warrenty) to replace a failed computing part.

I've owned a 2018 Goldwing Tour DCT for two years now and have ridden it over 17k miles. Best bike ever! I do low speed tight turns quite well, thank you. No, I can't feather the clutch, but I can apply slight throttle while modulating with the rear brake very well. But, you're right; it takes some practice initially, but the transition has been worth it. The DCT has seven forward gears (vs. six forward gears on the manual) and shifts in a tenth of a second. Plus, it has engine assisted walking reverse and walking forward. The manual shift model only has electric motor assisted reverse. There are paddles to manually gear down or gear up while riding. Or, you can put the DCT into Manual mode and only use the paddles, or you can install the optional toe shifter. The DCT is always in the right gear and at that gears peak power delivery. Three times I've been challenged at a traffic light by a big, shiny Harley and three times I smoked the challenger. The big difference between us is that the Harley loses a lot of time manually changing gears whereas I enjoy the peak of every gear and practically instantaneous changes between them. Put the bike into Sport mode and hang on! It's exhilarating. Finally, the DCT is NOT an automatic! It's an automatically shifted manual transmission. The DCT has two dry clutches handing off to each other as needed. One shifts the odd-numbered gears and the other shifts the even-numbered gears. An automatic uses a single clutch and a lossy-until-lockup torque converter. The new Goldwing is a mechanical marvel with a flat-six mounted low for incredible balance and ease of handling. This from a guy who went through both Harleys and Indians. I'm an egg-sucking dog now because I'll never go back to a calf-burning V-Twin.

Good, honest review. I've been a fan for years and years and took your class from the GA franchise numerous years ago. I'm a '14 owner here ...audio/nav/XM model - only wish it had the ABS. I rode a 2018 when they first came out, and yeah they're sportier with finally a 6th gear, traction control, and the electric windscreen, I'm sticking with my gen 2 model. It's got plenty of power and handles much better than what you'd expect from a 900+ lb. beast of a motorcycle. I'm missing Traxxion Dynamics suspension and some Helibars, but then it'll become the perfect motorcycle. Goldwings are known to be bullet proof and completely reliable bikes, which is why I bought mine, routinely getting 300,000+ miles.

In Australia the Police driver / rider academy uses Police officers that have had Road Racing experience. From there they are seniors and they train the trainers. No problem. They live on a motorcycle and they gain experience far beyond those who do not live on a motorcycle. They are the top motorcycle riders.

Thanks you Sir, and blessing to your family.

I've said many times I ride a Harley because 95% of my clientele ride Harley's and want to see the techniques and exercises performed on Harleys. I've owned 3 Gold Wings thru the years as well as several other Honda's, Suzuki's Yamaha's and Triumphs. If 95% of my customers rode Wings, I'd be riding one right now. I like all types and makes of motorcycles. If I had the room and the money, I'd have 20 or 30 different bikes in my garage. And I know you weren't commenting in a negative manner. I just want people to know why I own a Harley. I love just about all two wheeled machines.

Always enjoy you expertise and your humor(unlike some)-after 50 years of riding and many bikes thanks in part to you(and more so my wife) finally got my 1st Harley. 2018 Softail Lowrider-never a Harley guy before but they made all the right changes in this bike that now it's a hell of a lot of fun to ride. For me though the ultimate touring bike is my 2014 BMW R1200RT. It has basically all the tech of the Goldwing. just as comfortable as the Harley tourers, handles better than both and only weighs 620+ lbs. I appreciate all the testing you do of other makes, and very objectively so. When you get a chance ride the new R1250RT-much different than the 1250R. It might really open your eyes(plus it feels like a big. comfortable sport bike with plenty of power-100mph all day long if you're so inclined). Some day I want to take your course-do you have any locations in AZ? Keep the shiny side up and stay safe out there...

I have a DCT on my Honda because I have sever arthritis in my left hand, and have a terrible time working a clutch. The DCT is a dream in heavy traffic, and on city streets. One of my friends is an MSF instructor and I never thought I would see him on a bike with an “Automatic” transmission. After he got his new GW, I asked him about low speed and long, and he said something that you would certainly agree with... practice, practice, practice. He can take that big GW through the cones on the MSF course like most people do with a 250 Rebel. On low speed maneuvers you have to learn how to use the throttle, and (sometimes) drag the rear brake. Don’t forget that you have a MT/AT lever that puts you in manual mode, if you want to shift your self, and you can use the paddles in “D” just as well as in MT mode.

There was a nice online motorcycle video about a son who got his Dad into a Beemer RS after noticing his father was rarely taking out the Gold Wing. Dad was apprehensive about picking the bike up, maybe dad feeling it his responsibility to be able to handle all situations. With arthritis, ever think of moving to a lighter rig? Maybe you're the open & gregarious type and would be comfortable asking for help. -Just curious about what keeps you in heavy motorcycling. BTW, I'm 72 and ride an MT-10 (about 460 pounds) and a Husy 701 (about 345 pounds). I'd love to think I could enjoy the bike featured here for a number of years into the future.

I'm getting the dct touring model. I just fell in love with it. Was gonna get the ultra classic until I seen this. Rode both and I'm sold on the gold wing dct.

Well. I had a 2018 Ultra Limited and a 2019 Street Special. Sold the Street and bought a new 2016 Wing and traded my Ultra for a 2018 Wing 1800b after 13 years of Harleys.

john Dyer You done right! Nice choice. The DCT is absolutely fantastic! This coming from a former motocross and sport touring enthusiast. Nothing can stay with a DCT off the line. Twist and instantly gone.

I did enjoy the Florida scenery, thanks! You'd make a great tour leader: level-headed, experienced and appreciative of the pleasures of motorcycling. Sure, there's luxury and some security advantage to key-less operation. Let me have the key locked into place and seen with hard back-ups instead. There are even punch-out keys in credit card format or on holders like Swiss army knives. That way, you lose one or the other, all your eggs are not in one basket. -Very enjoyable video.

I have had surgery on my left hand and cannot pull the clutch in all of the time before my hand gives out. That's why some of us need the DCT! It's DCT or not riding.

Great video Motorman. Can you imagine how awesome it would be if Harley Offered what the Goldwing does as far as creature comfort? for sure they would sky rocket to #1 bad ass position.

Harley has adopted BMW's under seat shock and their front A frame shock set up, I always rode Harley's till I couldn't afford them any more then bought a used bmw, love it and putting it back together after a one person wreck I had and found out I had glaucoma, parts for an 09 1200rt ar difficult to come by especially the front wheel, still looking.

Thank you for this video , I love your humor and your direct approach to your opinion. I own a 2000 Electra glide standard and a 2005 road Glide. I will say that after watching this video I am seriously considering one of these newer gold wings. That thing was smooth. Thanks for your great videos I have been subscribed for a long time!

I still miss my 83 GL1100. Beautiful bike. Other than changing oil, filling with fuel and replacing a water pump once, it was trouble free.

Rode the 2018 Wing with the dct, and it was quite snatchy at low speed.Fortunately, I didn’t dump it on the test ride.I’ve heard Honda has since addressed that problem on the subsequent model years.Arguably the most beautifully styled motorcycle on the planet.

Made me want to look into one of these big ol comfy girls. Road one in the mid 90's and was shocked at how much power that bike had considering how big it was. Also Jerry, that was rude of you not to find Brian and help him get to line 1.

That bike is sexy! With a daughter heading to college in the fall and a son becoming a high school senior, all I can do is look, drool, and dream. Then get on my paid for 07 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe. The RSTD has been a great, reliable bike so I'm thankful and I love riding it. But that Goldwing on this video, sexeeeeeee!
