My friend showed up at the dunes (Dumont) with his new Kawi and I was impressed. I did notice it is BIG. Huge in fact. At the dunes, where power rules the day, it was behind. When we trail ride, he's right there. It does need more HP for big dunes. One dune he had to go around. It's a great machine that clearly needs a turbo option to be competitive overall. He's had it almost a year and has had zero problems. And he doesn't baby it! Another thumbs up Dirt Trax.

It is built well to stand up to abuse. You're 100 percent right though, needs more jam. I could see it struggling in the dues for sure. Trail riding or rock climbing it would do very well for most drivers.

With the size of machine it's competing against, it seems a pretty poor judgement to have that little power, especially when machines almost half that weight have 100 hp.

@@rat4spd Yeah. The X-3 has almost double the HP and is 500 lbs lighter. Both Kawasaki and Yamaha have the ability to make HP. Ultra-conservative management loses sales. And where is Suzuki? Who is running Suzuki?

Love my krx limited, definitely under powered in long straights but I can keep up with turbo sxs in trails and even pass them. Handles very good 👌🏻

I just ordered a 2023 krx. Waiting for it. As far as power can it beat any utv. Or same speed as say a non turbo rzr. If they r that slow I may cancel my order. Thanks. I bought it because it looks well built thanks

I said ^^ up there, my friend has one of the first sold in this area. He hasn't had problems. It's a beefy machine. But around here where the dunes are the size of mountains, it needs a turbo option. It's getting smoked by everything which is hurting sales in this region. We already know Kawasaki is fully able to make big HP. I don't understand?

I bought one 6 months ago and love it. Of course my old sxs is a 2015 T4, so the power and suspension are amazing! I also live in Texas and ride mainly wood trails and rocks. I can tell you it is a beast on technical terrain.

I really hope kawasaki puts the supercharger they have on their H2 motorcycle on these eventually. I think in the world of turbo sxs, that would be a game changer.

a supercharger running a belt in something that can be completely submerged in mud and water would be bad news unless it was somehow completely sealed like the drive belt, something like that would take up a lot of room where a turbo is hardly even noticeable on there

@@Dreamscythe1 true. Good thing they dont put them on jet skis or have cvt transmissions. Look at how the h2 supercharger is i guess. I think it would be great for the rock crawler market since you have instant power (albeit you are using the engine to turn the supercharger; instead of the exhaust pressure) and wouldnt have the lag of a turbo. Im not buying a sxs..it was just something i would like to see.

They're a nice machine. Built really well, just a little under-powered. I suspect that the new inline 4 will show up in this soon though in a naturally aspirated and turbo version.

Rich Farfugnuven my 03 predator 500 is the same power as a raptor 700 and i dont consider any 4x4 to be a sport quad. Their riding positions are too different.

Agreed! Unfortunately the KRX went back to Kawi already and we never had both on site at the same time. Wish we did though. That would've been awesome. ZFORCE has some zip and might beat the KRX out of the gate, but the KRX would probably walk it. It's the superior product. Built like a tank, better suspension, better wheels and tires, just needs about 10-20 more HP or even a turbo and it would dominate.

@@michaeldennis9063 The specs aren't accurate or the gauges.?? I'm guessing the gauges, because most all machines (snow, dirt, water) the factory speedometers setups, aren't very accurate if you are near a radar gun or on a track with electronics. Even though there is a loss in "traction, friction or tire size" like on a snowmobile, ATV or PWC, it's great how factory speedos add to the excitement of the experience.

They are limited to 68 mph. I’ve had mine there 2-3 times. That’s plenty fast enough for me.

Turbo hurts reliability and won't get you instant torque- still a delay. Also, don't forget, some of that lag is because it uses a C V T.

Great review to the point no filler always appreciate your reviews and rely on them more then any other channel. I think the KrX will fit the bill for me when I go to buy next year! Enough power to keep happy and the suspension, ride and excellent looking ergonomics in the cab is what is more important to me as we do all day rides. I need to stay comfortable along with my passenger haha. 🤣🇨🇦🍻

DT another good review. I like that it's a heavy duty unit. What I don't get is how Kawasaki would put out a sport s×s that's underpowered. I've had several Kawasaki's in two-wheeled form. One thing you never had to worry about was power. How do you build a 300 HP motorcycle, yet build a s×s that tips the scales at four times the weight and underpower it. I believe it's a great unit, but why bring it to the sport s×s table underpowered. It may not matter to myself, but it's sure to kill a lot of sales. KAWASAKI DON'T HANDICAP YOURSELF WITH SELF INFLICTED WOUNDS!! I have faith in you. The 2023 models are coming, get it right!

The brute needs more than a bigger engine . It needs better suspension geometry , faster 4x4 activation , a softer seat , 14 inch wheels , 3rd headlight , and a better quieter engine brake . Annnd it needs more room on the handle bars for customers that install windshields , hand warmers and the winch control . My opinion is that the power plant in the brute is plenty . A bigger engine creates more heat and when I owned a kawi I had no problem reciting the words to that old Christmas song chestnuts roasting on a brute force seat .

@@jamesswain2923 they’re slow. But built like tanks. Very very reliable also. Can go through any type of terrain. Slow and steady. If you add the kraftwerks supercharger it will be much better. But still not as fast as can ams.

I would probably remove the front sway bar and add GBC dirt commanders for my type of riding/hill climbing if I purchase one. They appear to be built very well compared to my XP, but I'm a little disappointed that Kawasaki's motor is a little soft.

The motor isn’t “soft”. If you look at the stats, it has high compression, large throttle bodies and substantial exhaust compared to the other NA machines. However, at nearly 1900 lbs, it robs a bit of the zip it could have.

The engine may not be soft, just a little underpowered for the application. I know what you're saying it's just not the best match. The engine in a Piper Cub isn't soft, but you put it in a F-15 and well....

I think it's a good machine. It's not the most powerful unit, but it seems to be very strong in other areas. Personally I think I would be fine with it as is. I do more wooded trails and technical stuff than high-speed.

A more aggressive clutch tune might make it FEEL more snappy... but it wont make it faster. It would also take away all the benefits of how smooth this vehicle is currently clutched. Which is really nice on the trail.

Clutching will just help part of the issue. The motor is good for. NA, even more potential than most. The sheer weight of the machine is its limiting factor. Add 300 lbs to the NA machines and see how much pep they loose!!!

we have on in our group and it is impressive. Tough as nails and fit and finish are great...however as noted, it is portly and not very fast at all. Get HP up to 200 or so (with that weight from being overbuilt and durable) and I would likely get one tomorrow (assuming I wouldnt order a SPEED UTV instead). A trubo would make it a formidable UTV for sure

Just spent 3 days driving a rented KRX pretty hard in Moab. The lack of power had me wondering if they actually detuned it, with it being a rental and all. It did handle whoops and big hits at high speeds wonderfully.

I see your point but that's not the krx's purpose, to me. It's not a X3 or Turbo R and they intended it to be that way. To me, it's purpose is to be 1 of the best trail machines out there for climbing, playing, & riding with friends. And it is! The krx isn't trying to be a speed demon, it's more Monster Truck. You can tell by how it's geared & the clearance & the throttle response . Lame for some . Perfect for any hill & creek out there. It's for extreme fun & not racing. It's for everyone to know, "hey, that ain't no Razor?" Lol

Great points. There's room for the line to evolve. Kawi could produce a lighter 60 inch version and then also make a turbo. Would really round out the sport lineup.

It's seems to be very good at it's intended purpose. Possibly they could add some drive modes . I do understand what you are saying. I think what you said about being more monster truck than speed demon may be right. I think where the rub comes in is it's labeled a pure sport s×s. When you have sport utility vehicles producing more speed it's going to raise some eyebrows. I know what you're saying, but the rules for the sport segment have been established long before Kawasaki got into the game. If you're going to play the game you gotta know the rules. I like the build. Maybe they should label it a monster s×s, it might get traction. As far as a trail machine, I think it's a little to large to be it's best at that. The lines look a little blurred on this one. A Lincoln Continental rides nice lots of electronics and loads of comfort and will get you where you need to go,but it ain't no Corvette. Just a thought.

Weird question but.......can you tell me which has better ride quality when riding slower, rougher trails in the ruts rocks and hills of the midwest? KRX or Polaris General XP Deluxe? I realize they are "different " animals. Just looking for a very plush ride.

Great looking machine , probably reliable as all the other long in the tooth equipment they sell . Kawi customers are loyal , and that's what they base their beliefs on . 64 mph ? And a turning radius of a tractor and hay wagon , hmmm a Honda 520 will get by it . When you enter the big boy class , HP and an ace up the sleeve is needed . Relying on your reputation of that's probably good enough won't work these days . Blue collar dollars is the deciding factor . Great review thanks

Could this platform work in a 60"? Lots of weight savings to help with power-weight, and it will fit where I ride haha. Kawasaki makes a great machine, and I wanted to want this one!

Just curious if there is a tune and clutch kit available to improve performance yet...preferably one that wouldn't void the warranty. I trail ride and want the plush suspension. I dont care about going 100 mph but a strong pull to 60 would be nice.

I've got a KTM 1290t super adventure. If KTM would do a s×s I don't think you'll ever be short on power. Rotax are know for their power.

I'm still surprised they went with a cvt as Japanese companies tend to go with the more reliable solution to what ever they are doing. If I were an executive at Kawasaki I would have pushed for a sequential six speed mated to a turbocharged engine pushing 150 to 160 hp to make it truly competitive.

The Yamaha is not a big seller. At Dumont/Glamis almost never see one. We don't have problems and a belt change is WAY easier than a Yamaha clutch rebuild. After my friend bought his Yamaha, baked the clutch and sold it, I don't even know anyone who has one.

ChrisNVegas The YXZ is just flat out awesome in the dunes. I have almost 4000 Glamis dune miles with not a single issue. We have four YXZ’s and they are built tough as nails...no clutch issues.

@@DUNEATV He didn't smoke the clutch at the dunes. It was on a kind of intense shelf trail switchback. I LOVE Yamaha. Grew up with Yamaha. No excuse for Yamaha not including a low range and time for a refresh and turbo/SC option. Look at the incredible Yamaha snowmobile engines. Right now, Polaris is testing a new 4 cyl SxS. (I have an inside connection)

Bad machine, I was seriously considering one, the price and width killed it for me. Went with the cf 950 sport. Performance to money made more sense, 12999 vs 17999 for a base krx or rzr 1000. It's quicker than the krx and hangs close with the rzr. Ride is a little stiff but I think it will soften up a bit once I get some miles on it. They are all fun

@@Supertramp01 so far so good. Suspension isn't as good as a rzr, top end power is down a little but it's not bad. Reliability is at least on par with polaris if not better. The biggest issue I have is lack of aftermarket support but it's getting better.

We dont use a radar gun. I just took it out on a LONG straight flat stretch of black top and held it wide open.... 64mph on the gauge for like, 5 straight minutes. Down a hill, a little more, but that doesnt count. I know gauges arent overly accurate. But its whats indicated.

It will own it on width-restricted trails simply because you can't take a KRX on those. It's already been shown to beat it in a drag race. It won't beat at rock crawling, BUT it's probably the most-capable recreational vehicle in its class and can do rock crawling well, just not be the best at it, which many will be just fine with. The RMAX2 can haul gear and the RMAX4 can haul gear or people.

Damn why you even bother with a turbo if the speed limited to 64 mph LOL for the price I can buy a nice truck LOL. I have 800r Commander will run 70, my Maverick trail 800 will run 66 I could still outrun that thing. Too many safety nannies for me

If your in it for speed only then look elsewhere...The 2021 Yamaha R-Max 1000 will smoke it the R-Max is half utility and half sport.
