Let’s be honest, in real world driving conditions no one needs more than the base car. The problem with the GTS is within 3 seconds you are well over the speed limit. The only place you can truly appreciate the power and handling is on a track. Also the GTS costs about 40 % more than a base Macan and to the untrained eye no one can tell the difference.
Thats why I kept saying “great value” in my video. Most people wont understand unless they drive it hard. The good news is it gets better over the first 1000 miles
Agree. That would be a different type of video, probably on a twisty road. I dont think the S could keep up unless it was similarly equipped with air suspension and pscb. Still the gts has a different engine and stiffer spring/anti roll bar settings. And some secret porsche sauce. Id also like to experience gts vs turbo, especially as a former turbo owner . I suspect the new one is more sterile, as the gts has definitely been blunted in the sound department
Second gen may look similar but porsche massaged it alot. Especially s, gts, and turbo. Gts is the biggest step forward in my eyes and the price doesnt reflect that
@@mikechung8665 i agree. You always want more power. One of my friends in FL just got the 2020 turbo (has had 2 last gen gts and turbo) he actually misses the GTS to be honest. Its more shporty. The bigger problem is when you start loooking at stuff like GT4 and 911s. Macans are like drugs
That gts is a real beast! I just got my 2021 macan base in crayon with a full black sport package and sport exhausts but it's nowhere close to that gts, damn! I don't need the extra power that the gts offers but it sounds so good!
I know exactly where you are. The porsche dealer is right there. It's a pretty good place to open things up with little cops surprisingly, especially with how many people test drive around there and fly
Do you have a video on the radar detector mount? I have a BlendMount for my 2021 Macan but no obvious (to me) spot for the mirror power tap connection.
Excellent comparison. I have a GTS right now. I love this car. It does everything well. However, I’m wondering how long I can hang onto it with all the internal complexity. Right now it has certified preowned warranty. I wonder what a base Macan would do with coil overs adjusted to 1 inch lower and an APR tune.? The base Macan might be easier to own long-term.
The base costs just as much to maintain as the turbo. Porsche tax. I think the base with a proper suspension and tune would be fun cause its 200+lb lighter. But you also need to upgrade ghe brakes at that point. At least pads + fluid. Its still a 4000+ lb car
I am consider the macan or the Tesla model Y, drove both and the Y has crazy pull with those electric motors. Still like the macan better but for the money the Tesla is crazy fast.

I think the biggest differences (other than the engine) is in the performance options... Torque Vectoring, Sport Chrono, and getting the 21' wheels that gives you a lower profile tire for quicker turn-in. I am getting a PDK GT4 this summer (as my only vehicle), but I made the mistake of test driving a Macan GTS and I was VERY impressed. Being in my upper 40's, I have to say as odd as it sounds to cross shop with a sports car, the sensible side of me keeps drifting to the Macan GTS. Add a tune to it and you are above the Turbo numbers and just as fast as a GT4 in a straight line. I would love to put one thru its paces in the canyons and see if I would be satisfied enough with it.
@@plife911 Oh, that is awesome, I can't wait for that one. Especially if you focus on damping and composure when pushing it around the corners. Obviously a Macan will never be as agile as a 718 GT4, but if it can handle its weight well and if it has great shock damping to keeps everything sorted when near the limits, that could be the difference. The Macan is obviously the better all arounder and year round option.
@@TRZ0612 having put 250 miles on the spyder last week, the gt4 is tightly sprung. Easy to get unsettled over bumps under heavy throttle on turns. You really need to modulate the gas pedal, which is like 8k resolution. But stomp on it and the power is instant burnout🤣. Macan has lower limits but a much more compliant chassis
@@plife911 very interesting. From everything I’ve read and videos I’ve watched , everyone says it’s very composed and eats up mid-corner bumps without getting unsettled. I wonder if that is a Spyder thing. What suspension setting were you using ? Regular or Sport?
No i drove the gt4 also. Its better than the gt3. But if you are hauling balls you gotta be careful on bumpy corners. Overall its a really really good suspension but its not perfect. With a DSC controller it should be unbelievable tho
Porsche doesn't stand behind the quality of their vehicles. The transfer case on 2015 Macan S has failed twice now in only 27,000 miles. This is a known issue which caused Porsche to extend their warranty to 7 ys. Their "improved" transfer case lasted only 2 years 2 months and 9,000 miles. I am out of warranty by 6 weeks and Porsche turns their back on problem and sticks me for $3,200 repair. Don't buy a Porsche w/o extended warranty for entire length of time you expect to own it. #1 rated warranty company - Endurance - won't even sell coverage on Macan. That should tell Porsche and all potential buyers something. Customer experience is far from an expected premium car brand experience. I will return to Mercedes for next car
