Wow, you really should not be driving then. Weren't you told when getting your license that Mustang drivers are to wipe out a whole crowd? Crowds equal 5 or more... Disappointed.
As a fellow miata owner, I can confirm that they are one of the most fun cars to drive. Whether it be for your daily commute, backroad ripping, or track driving, the miata can do it all and make it 3x as much fun.
Whenever I see TheTopher video on a ND MX-5, I immediately press 👍. One can't simply have 'enough' ND MX-5 POV videos. Does this white ND2 MX-5 have better steering feel than the other red ND2s (soft top and RF) you drove last year and the year before? Thanks in advance.
33 dislikes and 2,100 likes. 33 is 1.57% of 2.1k. In 2015, 0.48% of the population was blind. With severe visual impairment accounting for 2.9%. Statistically speaking, with a sample size of 2.1k, I think it's VERY safe to say the dislikes in this video were likely mistakes.
I've been rewatching your other ND miata POV videos as a way to remind myself of how much fun you seem to have had in them, and as a reminder to keep working hard to save up for one! I know this sounds sacrilegious but as a trackday enthusiast, I would like to see Mazda make a proper coupe version of these NDs, like they did with the NBs for the JDM market. Toyota showed that you can store a set of trackday tyres and a jackstand in the trunk area, and also a coupe body improves the torsional rigidity over the convertible too. But I understand that Mazda is a relatively smaller company and has to focus on their more mass-produced cars, let alone their upcoming RWD straight 6 engined sedan.
Driving sideways is fun. :) My year-old, 2,700-mile 2019 GT-S has never seen the rain. I don't even know if the windshield wipers work - they've never been on.
Now that you don't own a BRZ anymore Chris, would you ever see yourself owning a ND2 MX-5 in the future? If so, what would you do to improve it? Thanks.
I would own a ND. I'm still not sure whether I'd go RF or soft top. Probably soft top for a track/autocross car, but RF for a more street-friendly experience. I actually really like the NC2 Clubs too. But I'll own an S2000 before I get another Miata. Gotta have that experience at some point.
I really wanna practice this in my car but I don't know where to go... my local track is expensive and full of try hards and not really for just stock cars trying to have fun. Sim racing is fun but I want to do it irl :/
I really enjoyed that. I used to drift my S2000 and I have always wondered how my current car (a 2019 MX-5 Club) would compare. However I haven't been at a track while it is raining. I think the S2000 is probably the world's best drift car right after the Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86, but your MX-5 looked pretty forgiving in the video. Honestly, I am surprised that you spun it only one time considering how extreme the slip angles were. You had the the tail WAAYY out there. I also noticed that you never had to use the lever for the rear brake to get the oversteer started. Clearly, it is super easy to rotate the ND2. It looked like fun. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah it was sitting at full lock for a little bit in some of those slides! The steering angle in the Miata is really good, that helps. It definitely keeps you on your toes. Would love to slide an s2000 around someday, we’ll get there!
@TheTopher, can you make a tutorial for drifting the Miata? As you said because of the short wheel base it comes on quite abruptly sometimes, even under normal driving conditions (which is why I love it) lol. I would really like to master this thing, I am coming from sport bikes so I am not in my element and would appreciate the help.
He isn’t clutch kicking. You can hear that. Looks like a Scandinavian flick followed by delicate power control and some opposite lock. Clutch kicking is horrible for your transmission.
Is this stock suspension because theres almost no body roll and i know thats a thing.. when i get mine ima do coils and sway bars. Thats all i did to my last miata and it drove on rails after that
Or I think it’s in stake with them you know how there was a Subaru BRZ and 86 so basically Toyota paid Subaru to make the car and stuff and they own like 20% of the shares in Subaru
This video is very satisfactory... it is a pleasure to watch. Moreover Mx5 reminds me the old Alfa Spider "duetto", some of them had a 2 liters with rwd and limited slip diff as standard
Good car control! is that a Speedy Pro on the wrist? sapphire or hesalite? I find initiating oversteer/drift with left foot braking on my ND2 is sublime! just like they taught us in Rally School, feels your driving in loose surface almost.
I don't understand the dislikes. This video has only been out for a few hours. If someone doesn't like the car, why would they click on a video that just got released just to dislike it? lol
Sometimes I'm debating myself if I should keep owning my 1996 SL500 and keep going in the direction of expensive cars to own or get back into the Miata scene and get an ND2 Miata RF... I wonder if I'll miss the power.
I own an '02 OZ Rally Lancer with an automatic transmission right now. It's my first car. Once it breaks I'm thinking about getting either one of these or a Civic Si for my first manual vehicle. What do you think of this? Great content as always btw.
I picked up a 21 rf a few months ago. Do you have any tips for initiating drifts? I've done some clutch kicks in wet parking lots in second and have just been spinning out. It looks to me like you're not clutch kicking and you're definitely not using the ebrake. Are you just turning in hard and giving it some throttle then immediately counter steering? There's not many places here where I can practice (big lots, few light posts) so I want to have a good idea of what I should be doing so I can get in, slide, and get out before I attract attention. I've watched this video several times but any help would be much appreciated!
His drift is basically an inertia drift. It’s more about the speed he is carrying and a small flick he does to initiate the drift. You need lots of space to do this because things can go real bad.
First off, first line of your description is so fitting, I LOL'd. Second your smoothness on such a short wheelbase is impressive! I can only be this smooth with mine on winter tires.
You do realise that there is a huge aftermarket support for the ND? Also some companies are already in development to make individual throttle bodies so that they can make a similar package for the NC miata called the 'Super 225' - search on youtube
Did three eastern Canadian winters with my 94' before it went too track car. Was a blast, even being open diff at the time. Teaches you all the basics whilst going
