I have the HAL-6. The kink in the midsection is definitely an issue regarding the seatpost. I'm going to try the 75mm dropper. It's mostly an issue for shorter riders. Thanks for the info.

Hey! I got my son this very bike and it came the same time as yours. While assembling it I immediately noticed that the stem was longer than just about any stem on any modern trail bike. I had a shorter one on hand and swapped it before even test riding. I knew it would be a problem for a 13yo boy. Also, my geometry research led me to the fact that modern trail bikes should have slacker head tubes than 67.5 degrees. I ordered a -2 degree angle headset from Works Components in England and popped that sucker in, bringing the HT angle to 65.5.. Now I believe my kid had one badass trail/enduro bike for the next few years!
@DirtTrampMTB
@DirtTrampMTB 3 года назад
Hey thanks for the comment! We changed the stem out before the first ride as well since it made the reach a bit long for a small frame bike! I was not aware you could change the head tube angle with an aftermarket part, that is pretty cool! 65.5 is pretty slack but if he is riding mostly downhill that will be a great modification. I think we are gonna keep hers as is for now but as she progresses that may be something to look into, thanks for the tip!
@toddtreat1835
@toddtreat1835 3 года назад
I am curious to your actual head tube angle. I got the same bike around the same time. When measuring the headtube angle with an inclinometer it is about 66.5 degrees, not the 67.5 on the geometry chart.
@davedadmtb5934
@davedadmtb5934 3 года назад
@@toddtreat1835 Actually, no. I don't have one of those fancy thingys. I just trusted the printed specs. If it's off a degree or so, then my son has a 64.5 degree slack head tube. Still well within the range of modern trail/enduro bikes by the big brands. IMHO a long travel 27.5 bike is meant for the downhill gnar and really has no business having a head tube angle closer to that of a shorter travel cross country bike. ;)

I do, I really love Big Creek and generally get out there once a week or so. It's great for progression. As fas as singetrack though there are so many great options. Getting up in the mountains is always fun and beautiful!

DT what stem did you end up putting on her Hal? I was thinking I needed a shorter one for mine also because the reach seems a bit far for me on account I just a 5'6 lil' guy lol. Thanx man

Tires come down to writing style and personal preference? 🤔 I think it's pretty clear that you are not well versed in suspension Dynamics or physics. 🤦‍♂️
@DirtTrampMTB
@DirtTrampMTB 3 года назад
It's absolutely personal preference and riding style. A downhill rider is not going to be running XC tires. And within the different tire niches there are going to be different tradeoffs based on width, size, tread pattern, sidewall, etc.

What is your setup?
@archetypex65
@archetypex65 3 года назад
The Monarch shock is garbage 😄🤷‍♂️ One of the unfortunate things about RockShox, x Fusion and some other damper companies is that the lower components suck that's why buying a full suspension bike under 2500 is typically a waste. The most important components of a mountain bike are brakes and suspension. drivetrain would be the least to worry about and when you have shit brakes and shit suspension you might as well save up a little bit more money and get something better. 👍
@DirtTrampMTB
@DirtTrampMTB 3 года назад
Damn maybe you should make some videos since you seem to know everything! Maybe work at a bikeshop and see how many bikes come in for drivetrain adjustments vs brakes and suspension failures. bike isn't worth a shit if you can't pedal it.

The 2019-2020 Hal6 might be an exception though. I have the 2019 Trance 2 and the rear triangle cracked, the Fox float is leaking air and oil. Also the rear wheel bent just from bunny hopping. The Hal 6 stocked, still held up and I use it mainly for jump session. I abused it purposely as it was the cheapest bike of the 3 bikes I owned. imo, the rear suspension linkage design and the overall frame toughness is comparable to my 2019 Transition Patrol and 2020 Whyte G170s.

Flying Lap, Yeah...no. Rockshox doesn't make crap. Even the less expensive forks and shocks. Maybe you experienced a defective unit or something. Maybe a bad seal. Happens to every company. They are easily serviced.
@Sacapuntas69
@Sacapuntas69 3 года назад
For the casual rider, spending 2500 is a waste! I have ridden with people on seriously cheap bikes because they are on a super cheap budget. And these dudes made fools out of some of those riding on bikes that cost $$$$. Always fun to watch.
