2020 Chevrolet Silverado with 3.0l Duramax Diesel would not start yesterday morning, super low battery. I was thinking it was because of the last check engine light that I had, not the case.... I had one of my trailer hooked up and forgot to turn off the interior lights and that caused the battery to drain below 9V, just over a week... The battery saver function won't help you with external draw like a trailer, good to know now.
This video shows you what I was on the screen when I first got in and how well a NOCO genius BOOST HD GB70 works, purchased about 2 years ago for other unfortunate things that I have done to make a engine not start....

I’ve had a couple of those GB70 NOCO Boosts. I’ve actually never had any luck starting anything with low or dead batteries. I’ve tried them on my John Deere tractors and a couple diesel trucks and I get no turnover from them, just a little bit of extra battery life, enough to run the radio for a minute. I can’t recommend them to anyone because they’ve never worked for me but user error is always a possible variable.

After you jump the truck. You might get a check engine light with U01B0, U1345, and other codes. Because of the dead battery. Scan tool showed the codes for low voltage for the abs module and fuel pump control module on my 2018 Chevy Malibu. Cleared the codes and check engine light gone.

Just went out to verify my round trailer wiring plug on my 2019 GMC truck that my 12 volt battery power is hot when the truck is off, it is. My old Avalanche I had to hook the wire up to the fuse box so it would work.

Fyi, my experience with these jumper boxes is better if you hook the positive to the battery, but the negative to chassis. Starts almost instantly.

I’d suggest anyone buying one to just spend the extra $$ and buy the GB150. Always nice to have overkill. I’ll also say these things hate the extreme cold.

Chad Doesn’t GM send you an email when there is low battery voltage? I have received 2 so far.. I had the truck in the garage with the radio on and I received an email that said (low battery voltage pls start the vehicle) It’s hard to believe the battery dies so fast with just the radio on. Those lithium booster packs are amazing. I boosted a fire truck with dead batteries. The fire truck had 4 big 12 volt batteries and I can’t believe it had enough punch to start a big diesel...

funny thing not long ago proyect farm did a video on these battery jump starters and this one was around the good ones for the price but its terribly slow at cranking the engines

I like his videos. I think it was one of the first ones that came out and I liked the fact it was small any pretty powerful. I picked it up in 2019. Thanks for watching and commenting.

What is the coldest temp. that you have tried to start the 3.0l assuming the battery was fully charged with the truck not "plugged in"?

I have started it up at 4F/-15C without having it plugged in, no issues at all. GM really only recommends plugging it in of the temperature will be below 0F/-18C and we have not had cold weather like that in the last 14 months. On Tuesday morning they are talking about -4F/-20C so I'll get some video for everyone on how it does. Thank for the question and for watching.

I have a AT4 3.0 Duramax, still can't figure out the elevated idle. I've enabled it in the settings; temperatures are around -2 deg C. Do you know if it needs to be colder than that to work? It fires up instantly and idles around 800.

I just did a video of the truck starting when it was -20 deg C and I thought that it was going to do an elevated idle to warm up but..... Started and when to about 1,100 rpm and then went down to 900 rpm for over 20minutes. I then checked the high idle setting and it was off again :( I don't think that setting is getting stored correctly so I'll need to try it again but this was probably the coldest we are going to be this year. I'm super disappointed but will check the status before the next cold start. Thanks for the question and for watching.

Wow is the battery located under all that plastic covering on the 3.0L If so what type of battery does it take, it looks long.

It is a group 49 battery, AGM type. The same one was used in the Cruze Diesel and in my Equinox Diesel I still have. 900 CCA rating. The plastic cover has some electronics under it and there is another controller that is on the top, I thought it was for the glow plugs but I'm not 100% sure. I can't find the diagrams right now. The battery is around $170.00...

I just looked and Costco doesn't have it right now but might in the future. I purchased mine from Carquest, they had a platinum model that is supposed to be pretty good. Congrats on the order. Keep me posted on how you like it once it comes in and thanks for watching.

I CANNOT believe the truck does not disconnect the trailer charge circuit when the truck is shut off...

It's a little bit of a catch 22. If I were camping and running the truck every day I would like to have it helping supplement the trailer batteries and vis versa. If it turned off with the truck I wouldn't be able to balance the load. Now that I know I'm hoping I remember this is how it works :). Thanks for watching.

@@CJIEngineering I'm sure its a GM truck thing. I pretty sure my 16 GMC Yukon doesn't disconnect the charge wire when everything shuts down but my 17 F-150 does disconnect. There are definitely pros and cons to both setups.

Here is another one for all our 3 liter duramax owners do not have another vehicle wifi equipped park too close to your truck. GM has been having this issue with drained batteries. We figured it out. If another vehicle regardless of brand parksvwithin a foot of your vehicle the vehicles wifi even if you dont keep on tell your truck to wake up and check its status. It litterly kills your battery. Even though I had my keys in house. GM is aware of this issue and working on a way to cancel incoming data transmissions from waking your vehicle up and draining your battery

Just thought of one other thing, my truck has told me one time that a 2nd over the air update that it wants to install but with the cold weather it won't do it to protect the system from a low battery condition. I have a video of the 1st update but have not published it, not sure if it is to interesting for everyone.
