I bought one about a year ago. The little saw has taken everything I have thrown at. I toss it in my SawHaul and keep it on the tractor. Great saw for taking down limbs, cutting through thicker brush. I have the MS-271 with a 20" bar for some of the bigger stuff. If your saw performs like mine, it will become a very handy addition to your toolbox.
I bought one recently and love it! It was on sale for like $149.00. Great for anything under 16 inches. I keep it in the truck as my Wood Pirate saw :) !!
Yeah I got mine on sale too for $150, I just got through the break in period and now can run it full throttle and it kinda surprised me, this little saw screams!
I bought two of them. One was burning oil running rich I guess so the guy at the store adjusted it some. I gave up on babying them and cut some wood. One started not running at first so I jacked it to full throttle and it ran better after that. Yesterday one would not turn at all so I took it apart and was amazed how much wood was crammed in there. It's wet cottonwood so that doesn't help. I'm bucking down some pretty big stuff and it does cut fast and is easier to tote around than the bigger MS310 and really not that much slower. The big saw ends up making my back hurt so bad it's not worth it. I like to use this MS170 on big stuff and plunge cut it then drop it down on the horizontal seems to give my body a break pushing down more and the saw has no kickback that I can tell. Pretty narrow chain and has been easy to sharpen. Can't see any reason to spend more on their easy start nonsense that is for sure. Once it's hot better to try to start it in the up position otherwise I did kind of flood it going back to choke. OK sorry for the ramble that's how it goes.
You're going to love the MS 170. Its my favorite Stihl saw. I had one for a few years. I sold that and the 251C I had for a Husqvarna 340 and 350. Stihl is a great saw I just like the feel and smooth cutting of a Husqvarna better. The 170 is great, it can limb and buck small/ medium size logs with ease. It can cut things bigger than you expect if you were in a jam. Don't underestimate its size, it will help you out big time! You won't regret this purchase. Enjoy your new saw!
Great video. I have had the MS170 for about 10 years and love it (*except for the leaking bar oil) and based on your review of the Atlas40v just bought it.
I'm picking up one of these tomorrow for $75CAD, second hand. They tell me it has one season on it, they can't get it to run.. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Thanks for the good look over the saw!
@@WilliamsonRidge Update: I simply put fresh fuel in it, and away it went. It is a 2017 model, and I'm guessing has about an hour on it, based on wear/dust in air filter. GREAT saw so far!
