2020 Toyota Camry vs 2020 Honda Accord vs 2020 Nissan Altima | Best Midsize Sedan for 2020?

The Camry XLE takes on the likes of the Accord EX-L and the Altima SL in a comparison test to see which is the best midsize family sedan this year. Last year it was the Altima, but which will it be this year? Or can you find better offerings from Ford, Chevy, Mazda or Subaru? This comparison also bears the question: do sedans have a future in American car sales? Or are they on the way out as more popular SUVs and crossovers take their places? Let me know in the comments below!
I review each of these sedans in seven different categories:
1. Value (Price and features of each vehicle)
2. Safety (Both active safety features and passive IIHS results)
3. Power-train and performance (Engine, transmission, 0-60 time)
4. Fuel Economy (EPA rated fuel efficiency)
5. Reliability (Rated by Consumer Reports)
6. Styling (How each car looks, from my point of view)
7. Functionality (How well the car performs intended function)

My sister bought a used 2010 Altima a few years ago and it already had over 100k miles on it, it now has about 170k miles on it and still driving problem free. So I’m gonna make the wild assumption that maybe the problem isn’t the car’s cvt transmission but instead we have a lot of careless drivers out there. 🤔

Beware of Nissan's CVT. My 2017 Altima's transmission went out after the warranty expired to the tune of $4000 out of pocket. Nissan did not stand behind their product despite their chronic issues with their CVT's. Depending who gives me a better deal, its Camry or Accord for me soon.

Toyota will last longer than accord. Accords turbo will have more issues at 100k than Camry. Camry will be the winner in 10-15 years in wear and tear. I do like the new updated body change of accords but they will need more maintenance, parts and service.

While each car has its advantages and disadvantages I would choose Camry, here are some other comparisons. Camry: V6, Panoramic sunroof Accord: Cooled seats and optional 10 Speed Automatic Altima: 4WD and Pilot assist. However, with Nissan's bad CVT Transmissions and the Accord's CVT's, I would choose Camry.

Cool comparison. I got a 2019 Altima Platinum AWD in March and I love it. Two cool features it has over the rest are rear automatic braking and AWD as you mentioned. The automatic rear braking is great because it will stop for you if you're backing into something. The AWD is nice in the rain because I NEVER slip my tires when trying to take off quick from a stop. Now that it is November I am loving my heated steering wheel and am looking forward to testing the AWD in the snow.

I have a 2006 Toyota Avalon 3.5 little v6 with regular transmission. Funny thing is that it doesn't have a deep stick to check the transmission fluid , nor it has a valve to change or drain the fluid out of it either. Therefore, I have never bother to mess with it because I assume the transmission oil is sealed for the lifetime of the car. The car is my daily commute to work and it now has 340k miles with not sign of slowing down. Best car I ever had.

This video summed up my views after days worth research. The accord EX-L is the best all-around for me because of the legroom but in terms of features the Altima is 1st easily and used car value is far lower making it a better used car option (prior to the chip shortage).

@yordan826

if money is tight the best value is the Altima, you can get an Altima for around 3-4k cheaper than the comparable trim on the other 2. Now fully loaded trim i would go for the Accord because of the premium features that the other 2 don't offer and that buttery smooth 2.0 turbocharged engine, but Honda prices that trim too high for 37k that you pay for the Touring i could get a Maxima SL and that's a much better car than all those, and as much as i like the 2.0 turbocharged engine on the Accord in my opinion can't match the 3.5 V6 and 300hp of the Maxima.

Many complaints from Toyota owners regarding the new 8-speed auto and loud/unrefined 4cyl. Engine. Honda has been experiencing oil dilution problems in its 1.5t applications. Nissan says that they have updated the cvt in the new Altima. Only time will tell how well it holds up compared to earlier cvt’s that were prone to early failure. The Altima is the looker of the 3. The Accord is the most refined of the 3. The Camry in my opinion is overstyled.
