Join Me, Myself and I on this light hearted review of the all-new 2020 Toyota Highlander Platinum AWD as I compare it with my own 2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited. The fourth generation Highlander is built off of the TNGA platform and has all new styling as well as a new Hybrid system and standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.0.

Great review! We owned a 2014 Highlander Limited and loved it. The fact that they took away the separate opening rear glass is a huge bummer. That was a great feature.

I love the hybrid version because it’s the modern way of transportation. 35 mpg for such a big vehicle is very impressive and never have to worry about range anxiety nor to deal with nightly charging.

Love my 2019. It has 22,500 miles on it and it's paid for. Also, I trust the 8spd transmission over the CVT. Yes, the newer electronics/navigation would be nice, and the 2020+ does handle road noise better. Still, I'll keep mine. It looks like a man's car.

I'm having trouble justifying trading in our Highlander (we call them Kluger in Australia) for the new one which has yet to be released here. Ours is a 2010 model with 120k km on it. Runs and looks like brand new still. The new one does look nice though. Great video and best wishes from Brisbane, Queensland.

I have a 2017 top trim hybrid and it's been running smooth. The only issue is actually the dumb Entune 2.0 head unit, it has poor software and limited features, especially no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto support. I ended up replacing the head unit with an aftermarket 10.2 inch touch screen unit running Android system, with CarPlay support. Problem solved! Also installed LED bulbs for the headlights. Now the only thing I want on the new Highlander is the rear view mirror camera feature, but that's not enough reason for me to upgrade the whole car.
@MaximRick
@MaximRick Год назад
Get rid of the head unit and put in the latest Dasaita custom android head unit that pops right in perfect like it was from the factory. Had mine in my 2016 highlander for years now and best thing i upgraded 1000%. Basically get yourself a full tablet smartphone feature set in the car and just link it to connect to your phone as the hotspot for internet when in the car.

@EverydayReviews2022

Most cars with auto start stop you can turn it off if you don’t want to. I find myself turning it off sometimes in the summer when it’s really hot since when it’s off, it reduces the AC performance as well.

I definitely have to disagree that the front/rear view cameras are crisp on the new Highlander with 12.3" screen. Rear/front view camera displays clearly as low resolution on the large screen. It is clearly stretched to fit the screen size which is what makes it blurry (like watching a DVD on a 4k TV) because I think the native aspect ratio/resolutions of the cameras differ from the the display aspect ratio/resolution on the large screen making it look more stretched/blurry than it is. The top down view is nice and crisp though because it's correctly formatted. Birds eye view is sort of pointless (generally speaking too for other cars that have it), you can't even touch to move the cameras like in other vehicles that have this feature. Also the stitching of the view could be much better. Other manufacturers do this feature much much better. I generally think the infotainment could be better. Going to the larger screen means losing almost all physical HVAC buttons as they are now part of a menu called 'Multi-Operation Touch' which constantly uses up 1/3 of the screen depending on the side it is on. Because of that 'Multi-Operation Touch' , you are essentially back to an 8" screen. I love my 2022 Platinum, but I think Toyota really dropped the ball with the 12.3" version. I just pray that it is able to upgrade to the new OS coming out in the Tundra and subsequent other vehicles.

Toyota should have a slightly smaller boxier version without the 3rd row, keep the rear glass window that pops open and with the saving on the weight of the car, increase the mileage to 40mpg. The 2007 Highlander was the best. Lastly, with the global warming and 100 degree weather, I want top trims with cloth seat. I don't want to burn my buns after 20 minutes of grocery shopping.

We bought a 2014 Highlander Limited AWD...the headunit/stereo is just plain awful (Did anyone even test drive this car before production?? Talk about glare on the screen, wow I can barely see it mid day....tone and bass controls reset on their own and now it it shutting on and off randomly. Multiple visits to the dealer with no fixes over 2 years... Never thought I would need an extended warranty on a Toyota, but so glad I bought one as I have one year left to get it fixed. Rear hatch lift motor had to be replaced, and since then it moves really slow...I expected better from Toyota. Just bought a new Kia Telluride SXP and we will see how that works out...but so far loving it.

2020 highlander has an awfu transmission. 8 speed automatic is just bad. Also lots of wind noise issues. Not that happy with mine
