Fairly extensive damage on this VW Tiguan back door. This metal was a borderline over-stretched so alot of care was needed not to add anymore yielded metal to the mix. Also a good candidate to reskin this door and paint. I didn't capture it well, but I have to say the back door was sticking out 3/16-1/4" out of alignment compared to the quarter panel because the door skin was hit ❗so far in❗. Also check out the impression of rings on the door; when I cleaned off the paint transfer, that was unexpected to see the Olympic rings embossed in the door. I knew I had to do this in a way that wouldn't overstretch the metal anymore than the when the door for hit.
🅰️ glue PDR: I've been experimenting with a new constant tension device with my pull tower and with Camauto's glue and it's been very interesting. It's a very gentle approach on the metal. Really good with moving buckles. I also had a backwards tension pull to help the door re-align the gap to the quarter panel.
🅱️ Stanliner methods pretty much all the way after gluePDR. Mainly the 1/2" Stanliner crane hybrid and Samurai rods. I choose this PDR style to prevent stretch (no soft tips on this repair at all). I was really lucky to be able to quickly deal with those rings with a sliding technique. Embracing the slide mastering the crane tools! The visual feedback is almost like I'm sweeping the metal into the lows. You have to look close to see it, see how the metal moves into the lows. Samurai to stabilise and finish the shape. I did some rolling to clean up around the bodyline.
This was all possible because there was great access and setup ... this comes from checking what's behind the dent and making a good repair plan.
The naughtiest part was the sharp angled buckle (crown) closest to the handle. And the bodyline could be brought up some more to be honest. But I did what was expected of me and delivered the promise of a 80%+ repair. I left some texture for you to see! I did colour sand this out and polish after re-install. The texture was needed as cold shrink to stablize the shape. I also put new sound deadener in the backside and cavity waxed all the ecoat I touched in the backside.
