I think Ford really hurt the transit connect with its dismal towing capacity. Most other mini vans can tow 3500lbs, the transit being limited at 2000lbs really hurts it.

I disagree. This is not an apples to apples comparison. The Transit Connect (and Ram ProMaster City) is a true “minivan” compared to the Odyssey, Sienna, Pacifica, and Carnival (which really should be reclassified/renamed “midsize vans”). The vehicle and engine size differences (not to mention price) justifies the towing discrepancy. Of course, Ford could toss in more power and beef up the chassis for more towing capacity but that would only increase price and defeat the Connect’s main purpose as an urban delivery vehicle. However, speaking of price, the Connect is oddly expensive for what it is…there are CUV’s in its class, such as the Kia Seltos and VW Taos, that offer way more creature comforts for the same amount of money, such as AWD and LED lights, as well as, better MPG. Thankfully, the Connect is being heavily discounted in various markets (at least before the pandemic and likely after the CPU shortage). Anyway, your argument is more akin to comparing a Honda CR-V to a Honda Pilot, two completely different vehicles.
