If you price out a similarly equipped BMW 540or MB E450, you will hit 90K before the PDI and you'll still have less power. And NOBODY takes a second glance at a BMW or MB anymore. Bet you won't be able to say that in the new G80, gorgeous.
@johnholst
@johnholst 3 года назад
It's a bit surprising that Zak didn't do his homework. The G80 is NOT the same price as it's competition! Fully loaded, the G80 is 76K. Almost fully loaded, the inline 6 cylinder 5 Series is 96K. I'd say 20 grand is at least noteworthy!

Simply a gorgeous car! You'd be doing yourself a disservice not to cross shop this with the Germans. I think it was smart of Genesis to raise the MSRP. The fit and finish now seems to be competitive with luxury brands, and a higher price point implies quality in people's minds... Getting away from being a "bargain brand." I even like the steering wheel!

Let's get real here. What is that G80 can't do and German cars can? Absolutely nothing. Would you pay extra $$$ for Germans just so you can keep bragging rights?! You tell me... but any smart shopper would probably consider this gorgeous looking vehicle over Mercedes Benz or BMW any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Not to mention Genesis much like Lexus holds its value much better and are more reliable than European counterparts.
@kerjnerm681
@kerjnerm681 3 года назад
Agreed. Qwned german makes for 30 years. And yes they were all new when i bought them. On a good day with no issues or error lights they are great. When they have issues the ownership experience wears you thin. G80 would be reliable and stylish. The 5 year valet service is certainly interesting. The German makes don't do that because they would have an army of valet guys running around picking up cars. It would bankrupt their companies. lol
@SOBIsHobbies
@SOBIsHobbies 3 года назад
@@kerjnerm681 what would bankrupt Germans is the reliability. They make majority of their profits from the parts not from selling cars actually. They don't sell that many cars to make it actually feasible for them to make money to keep their business intact. Selling parts is what keeps them in business. Therefore, they cannot afford to make their cars reliable. Otherwise, they'll be shooting themselves in the foot.

@SOBIsHobbies
@SOBIsHobbies 3 года назад
@@sallauddin1 well it depends how you look at it. In terms of features and design I think Lexus is trailing, because most Lexus products are old and haven't been updated for several years. Popularity wise there is no contest Lexus wins hands down. Lexus has been around for 3 or so decades, so Genesis can't compete on that end. However, reliability wise Genesis has been showing some promising results. They're closely behind Lexus. Certainly better than Infinity and Acura.
@sallauddin1
@sallauddin1 3 года назад
@@SOBIsHobbies I agree with you, they're getting so much better. However, Lexus is long-term reliable; they thing is that toyota/lexus invist most of their budget on the parts that reflects reliability that's why they are a bit behind tech wise. Only time will tell.

I'm sick and tired of seeing the 3 Germans everywhere. Where's the exclusivity of having a luxury/premium car if everyone and their mother has one? I'd definitely get a Genesis, especially the refreshed G70 or even better, the G70 Shooting Break that will soon be unveiled in Europe. The only problem for me is that for the price of a G70, there's the Model 3 which will save you 200-300$ in gas every month on top of that. I'd love a G70e, or at least a PHEV

I would prefer to have the maintenance package as an option. Most people’s tyres and big budget maintenance issues (struts/trany/head gaskets/turbos) are not an issue, with the first 5 years (100-120,000 kms?). Most original owners never replace a timing belt. They typically leave that expense to the 2nd owner. So what you’re really getting is pre-purchased oil changes and a few free car washes. Besides... the Hyundai Group have great warranties already (and shuttle services).. so why not just lower the cars price and offer it as a VIP service? I do love this new Genesis, both inside and out! Thanks for the review.

Hyundai Genesis changes the look too often. You can tell an E class or a 3 series for a few generations. Genesis resale will be terrible as soon as next refresh comes. Then Hyundai moon roofs explode. And palisade has smelly headrests, literally. It’s a know issue. So reviewers will like the car for 12 hours, but you wouldn’t buy one I’m sure. Jd powers is initial quality, not 3 years. So ownership and having it for a week is different. When you’ve owned enough cars, Toyota is the only brand worth owning. I’d lease European and it’s fine, but Japanese and especially Toyota is only one worth owning.

My family has owned Toyotas for 50 years, and would take this over any Lexus sedan, especially the new cost cutting of the new multiple TNGA platforms, that punish you for being over 6 feet tall. Toyota has gotten so margin profit driven, you can see it on all their new products. Hyundai on the other hand follows the old forgotten Toyota mantra, equality and refinement improvements. The current changes you see on Genesis is because they are listening to customers and improve them quickly, like Toyota use to do. Just like how a Toyota Cressida looks different in 1978, 1981, 1985. Changing on improvements. Toyota doesn’t change anything anymore because they are riding on reputation. And reliability is made by keeping engines for 10 to 20 year to fix all the flaws and finally get it reliable. However, current Toyota can’t make something reliable right out of the box anymore. I am very impressed by current Hyundai motors. It reminds me of the ambitious 1970’s Toyota, with the quality of the early 90’s Toyota.

Overpriced and over styled. They also removed a lot of tech that the Koreans get that would help justify that price. Go look at @asianpetrolheads channel and see the Korean model, it's better. But that grill is too much. I was really excited to see this car out, but now that it is, I just don't really like it. Its too snobby looking. Interior is gorgeous but these tablet screens sticking out of the dash with gimmicky controls are really getting on my last nerve. No real shifter makes it a non drivers car. I hate dial and push button shifters. They've priced themselves out of reach of their current customers and have tried to reach for the Germans when their brand isn't established and has a very poor deal network in Canada. Lots of Promise, but they need to resolve a lot of issues with their dealer network, get a fan base, prove reliability with these new products, then they can maybe justify a higher price point. Residuals will be questionable which makes leasing unattractive. Not sure how this car will sell. Only for lawyers and doctors who don't care for brands? The 4 cyl is more expensive now than the last gen's top model v6/v8?!?!? It's a huge price jump.

We can't get Genesis in the UK Which is excellent news. That's got to be the most hideous car on the planet....
