I review my 2021 Ram 2500 6.4L Hemi Tradesman heavy duty pickup truck after 1.5 years of ownership and about 17k miles of driving. I give my final impressions of the truck before I sell it for another vehicle. I talk about what I like and don't like about the Ram 2500. This truck is now sold.
The Ram 2500 gasoline version features the 6.4L hemi making 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The 8 speed ZF transmission is paired with this engine and creates a great powertrain combo. This truck doesn't pull like the Diesel Cummins but is great in its own way.

I'm in agreement with you on most of it. I have the same color as yours "Billet Silver" and I really love it. It's nice and handles dirt well unlike my wife's granite crystal Cherokee, the most beatiful color in the world for about 30 minutes after a wash then always dirty. I tow a 6700 (loaded) travel trailer and the 6.4 is perfect except for the 8 to 9mpg's and as opposed to my previous 1500 with the 5.7 and about the same towing mpg. I NEVER have to even think about payload with an 850 (loaded) hitch weight. 3K payload is wonderful along with a 15K max tow. I JUST bought some KO'2's and they are not nearly as stiff as the Firestone OEM Tranforce AT's. They installed them at 60 in front and 65 in the rear. I up it five lbs when towing a lot of the stiffness comes back at those PSI levels. I agree on the gasser vs the diesel. But as you noted, the 6.4 is a very thirsty beast... After a lot of research, I decided to not go with any after market suspension items. It appears at around 30K those things can be helpful. I did do.

Thank you for the the informative video! I just bought a 21 bighorn with the 6.4 so far so good ( only been a day lol) I TOTALLY AGREE that shifter mechanism should have been left as a column shift . Just kinda crazy in my opinion. I liked the info on the ECO mode light and a few other things you covered , like the transmission , and especially the power of the 6.4! Congrats on your baby and continued success with the dodge👍🏾👍🏾

Steering stablizer bar will help when braking hard or tighten up the steering. Honestly since I put a new aftermarket muffler on you can really feel the MDS kick in at all speeds now where as before only high way speeds. I personally run with MDS off as the tailpipe stays cleaner and wears the engine parts equally and won’t let the cylinders that turn off get cold on long trips. Also do to lifter problems that can happen I replace my oil every 4,000 to 4,500 miles to keep the oil as clean as I can. Mine is a PW so I have 4.10 gears ⚙️.

I too have a pw, but the poor man’s power wagon, tradesmen version. How do you keep your MDS off? I have the cylinder deactivation BS and after researching myself it does wear out uneven after long use. I don’t know how to turn it off. I saw on a comment on another yt video that he keeps his truck on tow haul. I do that when I remember but I’d rather have it off for good. Can you please let me know how you turn yours off. Thanks.

On the steering wheel push the gear selector until it says 8/8. It runs normal except it deactivates the mds.

4:20 You do realize there is another storage bin under the front center seat...and there's also a storage bin in the dash, below the radio, directly in front of that center seat as well. At least my '21 Bighorn does. Agree with shift knob comment. I have mistakenly adjusted radio volume trying to 'shift'.

Hi thanks for taking the time in making these videos. Wanted to ask you, is it common to hear minor wind noise on the passenger side when going over 70 mph? In my 2022 tradesman crew cab It sounds as if the window is slightly open and you hear the wind but its only on the passenger side i hear this when im on the highway. Its not unbearable but slightly noticable. Just curious if this is something common with rams especially 2500's? Thanks for your time

I had a 21 Ram and disliked the dial shifter but thought " ill get use to it" .....after 6 months I hated it even more, lol.....put a column shifter on trucks... have a GM 2500 and it drives super nice, still firm but none of what you described on the Ram.....i run about 55 psi in my tires and to be fair I couldnt ask for a better handling or more comfortable 3/4 ton.....put 700lbs in the back and it rides like a dream not 1 issue yet with my Silverado 2500 hopefully stays that way

Can't speak for the 2500 Tradesman as have never owned one, though have had 1999, 2004, 2008, and 2011 Big Horn 1500's with 5.7LHemi and then 2016 Big Horn, and now 2020 Laramie 2500's with 6.4LHemi. I don't like diesel (save that for work semi tractor) and have stayed with gas engines. Was looking at a Tradesman on latest purchase, but it was too lacking with almost everything so we got the Laramie decked out and smooth ride as can be expected with a big truck. I've never had truck nor engine problems in any of my RAMs and usually trade them in once the warranty expires, though not this time (yet) as they've gone mad with price and expectations lately and no way in hell I'm dishing out $30K+ more than spent on this one for pretty much the same damn truck. From what I've gleened, a Tradesman is pretty much intended as a work vehicle and the bells and whistles and comfort aspects are downplayed to shave costs. The other trims have better suspensions, drivetrains, and creature comfort aspects.

Better drivetrains and suspension? They are the same choices amongst all trim levels. Higher trims give you more creature comforts. Even a Tradesman can be pretty well equipped with a 12” display with nav, etc.

We don't like the mds because it causes lifter problems. Every single engine with cylinder Deactivation has lifter failure problems

Is that a fact or what you have read Just bought one and if that’s a fact I’ll delete it Thanks

Its a fact bro...MDS for Chrysler/Stellantis trucks.....DOD for GM trucks...AFM for Ford trucks...they all are garbage and destroy the lifters on HIGH IDLE trucks....if your not idling on a job site, police work or utilities then your chances of encountering this problem are low but never zero.@harleydriverpdtnm3996

My owners review… had a 2022 hemi, just traded in for a 2020 Cummins. No comparison really

@@brad2233as a certified diesel mechanic I can verify this. 😂😂 ppl that hate on the 6.4 either didn’t have it spec’d properly for what they needed it for or they have an odipeoues complex.

Until the truck is in the shop for a month and cost 4500 because of computer code issue due to being a diesel engine.

The solid front axle steering is typical of heavy duty trucks.
