With the release of the Tenere 700, Yamaha looks to hit the sweet spot in the adventure segment by offering a capable performer, both on and off-road, that comes with a simplified electronics package and more affordable price tag. After several days of hard riding on some of our favorite test grounds, we put the Yamaha T7 through its paces to see if it just might be the unicorn bike many of us have been longing for. Let us know if you have any questions in the comments!

The softer suspension is probibly a good reminder that your on a 200kg adventure bike & not riding a 100kg dirt bike. Its likely make you slow down & avoid a big crash . So for the average trail rider , is likely make this bike safer & more manageable as it is. This may have been done on purpose. Don't see any 1200cc+ bikes riding like that.

I like what Yamaha did with the Tenere 700. The Aussies are doing some relatively inexpensive suspension upgrades to maximize off road performance. I'd love to see a Tenere in the 300 to 400cc class, although for my old man riding, I'd be better served by a modern (EFI, etc.) version of the TW200. I'm serious. Yamaha should do that. In every case, adventure bikes need much larger fuel capacity. Why the 200 mile maximum range that is probably closer to 100 miles off road?

@@ridewherever I'm in East Kootenays, BC. I think with all the single track the husky will be better. It's got better suspension from factory too. Thing is due to my height and weight I'll have to change the spring rates on either bike I get. The husky has 48mm forks compared to the 43mm. I also like that 25 litres for the husky too. If I was back in Oz I reckon I'd take the yamaha. Being in Sydney it's definitely more road to get to the trails.

@ridewherever 3 года назад
@@yakbiker75 you’re absolutely right. And I live in Pennsylvania USA and in my part of the state there aren’t any trails. Everything is gated off or is private land. Our roads can be paved and out of nowhere can turn to gravel for a mile. Bottoming out with your weight in this video is so embarrassing.

The fuel range of 200 miles is a real shame for what could have been the perfect adventure bike. Not too expansive, well designed crash bars, extremely reliable engine. Hell, i even love the black and yellow color scheme. But that 16l tank is a deal breaker for me. It's already 204kg, with a 20l tank how much heavier could it have been? ...or maybe they just gave up the chance to create a really good adv bike because it would've made the Super Tenere even harder to sell?

Hello, you are wrong it is not a longer stroke engine than MT-07, nice video tho'.

Hi Gareth, The video specifically states that it's the same engine as the MT-07 with only minor ECU tweaks. The 'longer stroke' reference was in comparison to other bikes in its class. Reading your comment, we can see how it might be interpreted that way though. Thanks for the input and glad you liked the video!

@@ADVPulseVideos Aha - sorry when he says, when comparing engine to MT-07 'They put in a longer stroke engine in this' I assumed you were saying 'they put in a longer stroke motor in this' because you didn't mention any other 'bikes in this class' when you said it. Understood, but hey, just admit it is misleading... c'mon guys we all say the wrong things sometimes, no issue ! Out of interest, which other 700 parallel twin adventure were you referring to with a shorter stroke ?

Hey Gareth, yes we acknowledged in our previous reply that we can see how it can be interpreted the way you did. You are right that it can be confusing so apologies for that. An example of an adventure bike in this class is the KTM 790 ADV that has a shorter stroke of 65.7mm compared to 68.6mm for the Tenere engine, despite being 110cc larger.

I was out with my buddy on his 3-month-old T7, he dropped the bike and it wasn't that hard of a drop and the muffler hanger bent the rear subframe, the rear subframe is welded on the bike not bolted so the bike was totaled out, I put my money back in the bank when you can drop your bike and total it, I don't think it's for me.

How does a “light drop” bend the sub frame to the point where the bike is totaled. I can’t say I believe your friends story.

@@michaelm.3641 Believe it Michael. IT'S TRUE. Sure it's a disappointing technicality. You probably could straighten it out and ride it for many years until it was time to sell and failed Roadworthy Check. Poor design by Yamaha. Well documented problem.
