Great video, Ealan-sir! I appreciate that you're aware of us entry-level HT enthusiasts when comparing subtleties between AVR's; while reminding us to buy what makes sense to "me." Best-of-the-best is great, yet useless to pay hundreds more for features I haven't and won't use. A 5.2.4 video would be cool. I vote for that one! Thank you, and cheers from Winnipeg, MB, Canada!

I’m so glad that I got the x3600 when I did. It does all that I need and I only paid $700 because it was the outgoing model. Hoping to use it for many more years before I “need” to upgrade. 7.2.4 is great!

Great comparison video. Every one of these models haunt my browser targeted add space as I have researched them so much. With the size of my room 12x12x8 I don't see needing pre-outs however they are nice to have. The RZ50 is still at the top of my list. Worth noting the Onkyo 7100 also comes with Dirac.

This was very timely as I'm right in the middle of searching for a 9.2 receiver. I can't believe they're selling the SR6015 for over $2000! It's priced at €1500 here in Finland, but on special for €1299 right now, which is the same in US dollar, so a complete steal compared to the US. It's £899 in the UK, which is just north of $1000 USD!! Your price looks more like the SR7015 price?! The Marantz Cinema 50 are on preorder here for €2000. Things are NEVER cheaper in Europe than the US! 😆 I think some retailers are riding the 'inflation' excuse, and fleecing you guys! Great vid sir! Cheers! 😃👍🏻

I think you missed that the cheapest TX-NR7100 has full range Dirac Live room correction which is a huge advantage over the current Denon/Marantz receivers. Dirac Live also corrects the subwoofers so in many cases you don't need a separate minidsp 2x4HD. Also I think pre-outs are not needed for most people unless they have speakers with very poor power sensitivity. I have a 3200 cubit ft room with 9 Emotiva speakers with 85dB sensitivity, the front/center speakers are rated at 4ohm and my surrounds and atmos are 8ohm. I have no problem driving them to uncomfortable levels on the TX-NR7100.

@@ealanosborne one thing I’m concerned about is I’ve been having issues with my X3700H pushing enough voltage for my two Monolith 16 subs. I wonder how the power is partitioned for four sub outs. As someone who has gone the minidsp 2x4hd route, this is no longer relevant to me but something to think about if you plan to run some big subs.

@RahzAlGhul Год назад
Why you looking at a 3800 over 6700 you can do 13ch on the 6700 when you’re limited to 11 on the 3800? Is it just because of the Dirac and 4 sub option?

Love your content. I'd love to get your take on if it makes more sense to buy a cheaper amp with lower power and use the preamp outputs with a separate amp or break the bank and go with something more powerful? Wired my theater room for 7.2.4., so that's how I found this video.
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne Год назад
Oh if you’re plan is to go with external amps anyway, go with the cheaper option, since the internal amps’ power ratings are negligible at that point. It’s best to make an AVR work less at powering speakers, because then it will process audio better, not having to perform so many tasks at once. 🤘

Just ordered an Onkyo TX-RZ50 to run a 5.1.4 setup...I already have another amp, the Marantz NR1200 that I will use to power the surround back for a 7.1.4 setup, just have to decide what I want to use for surround back speakers, I'm thinking of getting a pair of SVS Ultra Surrounds, and running them in DUET mode, allowing them to be my surrounds, and my surround backs... I'm currently running a Onkyo TX-NR696 in 5.1.2, with KLH Model 5 as main fronts, and Polk Audio everything else(center, sub and surround), and for front height I'm using a nice little set of Pure Resonance Audio MC2.5B Dual 2.5" which are fantastic for height speakers, and I'll be using another pair for rear height as well...

I believe yes, the new x3700h has changed their HDMI chipset. But you still have the issue of only ONE 8k/60 4K/120 VRR ALLM port, basically just replacing the one you lost on your TV by using the E-ARC port.
@rogerayer6731
@rogerayer6731 Год назад
Great video just to let you know any Marantz or Denon 2.1 issues were resolved since spring of 2021 with new Chips. There should not be any more of those in the market if so Denon made available a free box if your game console will not work. You can tell by the serial number I think it was the last four digits there were 7,000 or above but you can check that with Denon. Now they have lowered the price of the x3700 as a close out to 1199 which was its original launch price

For 7.2.4, the rears for my surround backs are slightly higher than ear level to accommodate the couch, so in my mind this seemed like the best combo, I don't ever see anyone talk about a heights and in ceiling combo, I always see one or the other

Can i not splice lfe output to have 4 subs? ( native ican have 2) q2. Can you explain more what 100w to channel means I don't really understand that thank you for sharing your wonderful knowledge
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 7 месяцев назад
Something you might want to look into is a MiniDSP 2x4 HD. You can take one subwoofer output which can expand to 4 subwoofers. But the most important part is that you can make adjustments to each subwoofer individually. Maybe one is closer to a wall than another. Or maybe you have 2 completely different subwoofers that need separate tuning. If you split a subwoofer signal, you can’t make adjustments to each subwoofer individually, since you’re just splitting the same signal in two. Make sense? And also, 100 watts per channel means your receiver can output up to 100 watts to a speaker - but the catch is that number almost always means with only 2 channels being powered. If you’re powering 9 speakers simultaneously, you’ll most likely get something like 50-60 watts per channel, since it’s very taxing on the receiver. So it’s just a number to give you to make sure your speakers can handle that much power, or else you’re at risk of damaging your speakers.

@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 11 месяцев назад
They’re all under the same umbrella company, but: 1) Integra is their home integration products, so if integrating into a whole home audio system AND home theater is important, go with the Integra 5.4. Pioneer is their music-leaning product line, so if you listen to music at least 50% of the time on your system, go with the 505. If you just need kickass audio for movies and TV, go with the RZ50. Hope that helps! 😁🤘

There is a 9 channel receiver that lists for $799 that can do 5.1.4. It is the Pioneer Elite VSXLX304. Not sure how much of a step down that is or if just sacrifices too much. Were you aware of this one?
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne Год назад
True, I just wanted to hit the available AVRs that are the latest models. The 304 is just the 2019 version of the 305, so it supports 4K and HDMI 2.0, but not 8K and HDMI 2.1, etc. But if you’re not much of a gamer, 4K and HDMI 2.0b is all you need still for many years to come!

Since it has been metion many times, what channel is better to power with the extra 2ch amp? (Front/rear/side or high1/high2) Or is better to take in consideration a 4ch amp to power all the atmos (and obtain a more balanced power)? Any suggestion for model/brands.
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne Год назад
You can go a number of ways, depending on what you prefer, really. Many might utilize a high-power 2 channel amp for their front L/R as a hybrid home theater/stereo HiFi system (if they listen to music a lot as well). 2-channel amps are plentiful out there since there are many HiFi stereo enthusiasts who might have large tower speakers integrated in their HT system as their front L/R. Just depends on their budget. Budget conscious people might want to power their front LCR with an external amp (like the Emotiva BasX A3, which is wildly popular) since they might have fairly decent speakers up front that can handle up to 150 watts (since the BasX A3 is rated at 140 watts per channel). But you can definitely use a 4-channel amp to power 4 heights right away. Although that would be my personal last choice, since I would most likely power the heights externally last (if I'm upgrading over time). If I had an external amp plan laid out, I would start with LCR, then power surrounds/surround backs, then heights externally, slowly adding those external amps over time as to not push my bank account to its limits. 😄
@nafnaf0
@nafnaf0 Год назад
I think most people get a nice 2 channel amp or integrated amp for the front two speakers (front left and front right). This can double as your dedicated stereo music system. Surrounds and overheads especially typically don't require as much power as the fronts.

That was in my 2022 Wish List video, to have more powerful options for 3.1, 5.1, etc. Unfortunately manufacturers still haven’t jumped on board to accommodate those like you and I who would appreciate a powerful 3.x system. The other unfortunate thing is that the AVRs or preamps that do have more power only come with 9 channels or more. 😭 Since you want more power, you might look into inexpensive preamps, like the Emotiva MC1 (which is currently on sale for $799) and a BasX A3 amp. I know the channel count is overkill, but you can still have a more powerful system and still have the option of expanding if you so choose? 🤷‍♂️

Yes! I would say to stick with Polk so your speakers are timbre-matched. Best to have all the same brand. I’m sure you’ll be satisfied with a 7.2.4 Polk system for quite some time. But I’m sure eventually the home theater bug will bite again and you’ll want to upgrade your speakers again. 😄

Current pricing is crazy alright. My Onkyo TX-NR787 (only $500 on sale in 2019 ) is near identical to the NR7100 ($1300 in 2022). Same exact design and specs, save for an extra sub and HDMI 2.1. @ealanosborne
@ealanosborne Год назад
Your best bet is probably going to be the Denon X6700H if you’re wanting to eventually expand to 9.2.4. All the 9 channel AVRs out there that can process a total of 11 channels (x3800h, for example) don’t support 9 ear level speakers. So with the x6700h supporting 9 ear level speakers, and supporting 8K video for future proofing (and tons of other bells and whistles), I’d go that route, if you think an 8K TV is also something you’ll get in the next 5-10 years. External amps I would recommend the Emotiva BasX series. Affordable and damn good for the price. Speaking of Emotiva, if 8K isn’t your thing, and neither is Auro 3D or IMAX Enhanced, maybe consider a separates system, like the Emotiva MC1 and a couple BasX amps to power all the speakers? The MC1 is on sale for $799 right now. If you got that and a BasX A7 and A6 (to eventually Power your 9.2.4 system), that would cost less than the x6700h. Just food for thought. 🤘

If I don’t need Audyssey I can probably save $300-$600 on my receiver, and with that saving I could buy a 2 or 3 channel amp to take the load off my front sound stage. Your opinion and insight is needed, I plan on pulling the trigger this week.

Obviously I think Dirac is the best, but I understand it’s not cheap (especially since it’s an added expense on the new Denon AVRs). Audyssey still does pretty well, but just know that you’ll need to go back into manual settings and make some tweaks after running Audyssey, since it never seems to get it 100% right. Good room correction can make even a not-so-ideal living room/listening area situation sound great, so Dirac can definitely make the most out of an imperfect space. Although the nice thing about the new Denon x3800h and 4800h is that you could save money up front by running Audyssey, then later add Dirac for superior room correction. 🤷‍♂️ Which AVR are you thinking of getting?

I guess it helps people figure out what some of those specs mean but you have to also realize spec sheets can be wrong or misleading. For example, I think ALL the Denon receivers you listed that have preamp outs have discrete subwoofer amps. No mention of how the room correction works or the fact that all of the mentioned Denon can be purchased with an app in the Microsoft store that allows you manually calibrate your speakers, time alignment, house curve, eq, etc. it’s very powerful. I’m only speaking for Denon because that’s what I have experience with. Also interesting to note that the up until 2021 (not sure about 2022) the Denon amps have measured cleaner than the Marantz, so people might want to save there money there. I’m excited Dirac is making its way into more receivers. I haven’t used it but it sounds like it’s the bees knees. IMO Dolby Atmos is a little overrated. When one is listening to a 5.1 movie with the height channels on. One will actually be hearing a movie thats been mastered for 5 base level speakers and yet the same 5.1 signal will be coming out of the height channels 😲 (Messes up the whole 5-ch soundstage) it becomes even worse when listening to 2-ch decoded movie with the height channels on. It's only the fact I'm able to turn my height channels off that I was truly able to verify this! But unfortunately most people using a 7 or 9 ch internally amplified AVR won't be aware of it. If one keeps being told Dolby Atmos is the next best thing to sliced bread one really can't blame them. Conclusion; unless one has got the option to turn the height channels off, I would recommend not upgrading to Dolby Atmos and stick with 5.1. After all the vast majority content is 5.1 or smaller anyway.
