What bike would be a better track bike? The Ducati Supersport 950 or the Ducati Hypermotard 950?
@bobstewart9688
@bobstewart9688 2 года назад
I suspect either would be a blast. My pick would be the SuperSport 950 for its better wind protection. YMMV; I don't think there's a wrong choice here.
@nickb638
@nickb638 2 года назад
I think at track speeds you'll want some fairings. You get up over 100mph with no screen, the wind is going to try to peel you off the bike.
@JeanOi
@JeanOi 2 года назад
Both bikes can do track, but neither really belong there. On a fast long track, both are gonna miss top-end power. On a tighter more technical track, the Hyper would be one to go for.

this is just my 2 cents review (take it or leave it) as I purchased this exact bike a month ago and have 1000+ miles on it now and it's sufficiently broken in. Keep in mind, I'm coming back to riding after a 25 year break. I'm 52 y.o., I am 5'9", 32" inseam, average build. To get back into riding I purchased a 2019 Yamaha R3 brand new 3 years ago and put 17,000 miles on it for commuting and 1/2 day rides. I also own a 2020 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 classic cruiser (for the laid back experience and my wife wanted to ride along on back). However, most of my riding was on the R3, so that's the experience I bring in my brief review of this Ducati 2022 supersport: Pros: Plenty of power Sexy curb appeal Control Screen is easy to navigate Easy to change riding modes while riding Brakes are powerful Engine braking is tight The bike is very responsive on corners and comes out of them like a rocket the bike generally just does what you want it to do, no fighting the bike, it's just smooth. Ergonomically comfortable (I have taken 2-5+ hour rides with only minor soreness in my body afterwards) Daytime running lights from the front are just badass to look at ALL the electronic sensors (wheelie control, ABS, tracking control, auto blinker shut off) Brake lights auto flash when going over 30 mph to grab rear drivers attention. Easy to access important maintenance stuff (like chain tightening is a breeze if you have the proper equipment). Cons: Rembo is not kidding, after about 10 minutes of riding it's f**king hot. (at constant 50+ mph it's fine b/c wind cools you off, but in even mild traffic with stoplights, it's like a pizza oven under your ass.) At 5'9", I'm just barely the right size, if I was 1" shorter it would be hard to flat foot it at a standstill. yes, the mirrors do vibrate excessively (however, even at 80+ mph, I can tell what's around me, I can't read the license plates, but it's not like the mirrors are completely useless, I can tell what's going on around me). No splash guard in the gas tank, you have to strategically aim the gas pump in the tank, otherwise you get a splatter of gas all over. It's not super practical for commuting. I guess I'm used to my old R3 for commuting, but this bike is just too powerful for the 10 mile fighting traffic commute to work. When I'm in traffic the old line from the Sammy Haggar song "I can't get my car out of second gear" is always in my head. It's meant for the open road, it can handle the commute, but I'd choose something smaller and better gas mileage if that's what you're getting a bike for. The 2 way adjustable windscreen is pretty useless. Smallish tank, I feel like I'm always going to the gas station. did I mention your ass gets hot, especially in traffic (that's my biggest complaint), if you buy this bike, stock up on spare underwear, because you're going to be changing them all the time.

I test rode a 950 S this summer and concur with Rembo's comments. The bike is a hoot and a half. It's more comfy than a full-on sport bike, looks and sounds great, nice power and handling. Two disappointments for me: 1. Why no cruise control? The Multistrada 950 has it; it would be no challenge technically to add it. 2. Ducati doesn't make available a service manual and I've found no independent (such as Haynes) manuals for it. I don't want to rebuild an engine but I do want an authoritative source for simple stuff like torque values for the oil drain plug, wheel nuts, etc.

Love that you are the first guy I've seen on RU-vid who understands how to set the mirrors. I do the same thing. They are there to see beside us, not behind us, but I cheat on the left one too as it's easier to do head checks on that side.

What's your opinion on being a first bike ? I don't want to waste money on a bike I don't want. This ducati seems perfect for what I want, friendly but good power, comfortable, great quality, etc.

@@alexv5581 If you've taken the MSF course , and kept in in rain mode until you got familiar it's not a bad choice. They are a bit pricey to own, get the Service plan if you pull the trigger ..seems expensive ..pays for itself on the first 2 services
@haroldwebb9237
@haroldwebb9237 2 года назад
@@alexv5581 IMHO too powerful for a 1st bike, stick with the 300-400 series of Japanese bikes to get started, then you'll be ready for the Ducati. Plus the price point on the bikes I mentioned is 1/3 the price, brand new. I personally did 17,000 for 3 years on a brand new 2019 R3, got very good and confident, sold my 5,500 purchase for 3,500 and put that money down towards a 2022 Ducati supersport at 15,000. I feel like I can handle the weight, power, responsiveness so much better since I got accustomed to riding on a smaller bike first.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a 2021(new) 950. I've currently own a 2018 Triumph Street Triple 765 RS and absolutely love that bike, but I find that it gets a little uncomfortable for touring. I'm bumping 60 and not quite as bendy as I used to be. I chose the SS because of the great ergos (I'm 5'9)" which will make a good for touring and the also to do the occasional track day. Great review and Subscribed!

If you're sitting on it like its a mt09 you get decent wind coverage? So maybe when the weather gets worse, you tuck in and then it gets even better wind coverage right? Im asking because there are very few options if you want those specs with good wind coverage without the bike being an ADV or something :) Also for this reason I wish Triumph to launch a Street Triple 765 RR version, It would be a unicorn style bike but i think they would be similar to supersport 950

I have had a '21 950S for 2 seasons now and I got it with the touring package which included a taller smoked windscreen. I don't get any buffeting unless there is some gusting weather, then I shake around a bit, but normally it is very smooth for a sporty windscreen/fairing. You will still get wind noise from your helmet though, but no more than usual. There are 2 vents beside the headlight that direct cool air to your thigh area that help with the heat, and the radiator vents and oil cooler vents are directed out to the sides away from your legs. I feel they really got the fairing right and it does a great job with wind coverage.

This non-S version of the 950 is at an interesting price point for sort of a sport-touring/relaxed sport bike. No cruise control kind of sucks but oh well. I see no reason other than looks to buy the 950S over the non-factory Tuono V4.

I think you missed the real question here. How long will it take Ducati to drop the V4 from the Multi in the SuperSport? Now that's a bike I would seriously consider as a replacement for my Multi V4. If Ducati follow their current trend, in 2023 we might see a renaming of the SuperSport 950 to SuperSport V2 and a SuperSport V4 with either the V4 from the Multi or, if Ducati is nice to us, the V4 from the StreetFighter.
@RemboUSMC
@RemboUSMC 2 года назад
I have been waiting to hear about the Supersport V2 but that did not happen in 2022. I think Ducati is going to end up with 2 primary engines, the V2 and V4. Now a V4 in the Supersport? Wow, yes.
@JeanOi
@JeanOi 2 года назад
@@RemboUSMC I think it's only a matter of time before the whole range of bikes is v2 and v4. The next logical step would be the SuperSport and the Monster. They will keep the small air-cooled L-twin engine in the Scrambler, until eventually environmental regulations kill it. I'd be very interested in a SuperSport V4S. My brain loves the idea. My heart thinks hard luggage on a SF V4S would be good too :D

I believe the SS has a different tune than the Hyper; 'softer' as it may be compared to a Panigale, Ducati dropped all references to 'touring' (not that any really existed) on the latest SS model, and with the Ohlins, the tweaked internals of the TestaStretta, and throwing on the full Akrapovic race exhaust, you're looking at a motorcycle every bit as fast as the famous Ducati 916; the SS is only 'slow' in comparison to track weapons that are good for all of thirty minutes on the regular road, and need to be wound up to close to 10k RPM to truly shine - and I say that as someone who owned a Panigale, and now owns a '21 SuperSport. Short of track days in the fast group, the SuperSport will keep up with any race-rep on the backroad slicing.

Because no offense, but honestly, the majority of people 5’11” or taller look to big on the bike. And this is why im sorry fellas, but people 5’10” and shorter are the luckiest MF’s in the whole world, because they look good on any motorcycle.
