This is a one-part video of a 2022 Ford F-250 Shelby Super Baja we just completed for a complete high-end Focal Utopia M custom stereo system upgrade. Man, I can only imagine what this system sounds like. I had Focal K2s in my last truck and they were absolutely phenomenal. Best speakers I’ve ever heard.

I saw one of these bad boys in Bozeman, MT last weekend. Over the top, was what came to mind. Truck: $160,000. As for a fitting stereo . . . let's go with 10%: $16,000.

Yes, I know… this truck with this setup… go to your favorite live concert stand front row and let them turn it all the way up. Then tune it perfectly for sound quality, that’s the level this one plays in. Absolutely insane! Never heard another system that has this capability..

what is extra-interesting to me is the center and rear. I have Morel Piccolo tweets and Focal Utopia M midrange and they are so mind-blowingly beautiful, I would hesitate to mix another speaker with them, even that high end one. The same with the rear, I have the Utopia W-XP, would hesitate to have rear fill of a lesser speaker, and I know that 8" Utopia M is amazing. but I have zero doubt this system is beautiful. it is certainly aesthetically beautiful.

Just translate all of this as ingredients to a chef. As we develop our craft in the high-end world, we are able to grasp a better understanding of how all of these come together. For example, rear speakers are technically not suppose to be there. Just like a music studio where the music is recorded and produced, they are only using two-channels to make this happen, left + right. No where outside of a car audio will you experience rear "music". Since we do not want the rear to manipulate the front in the upper frequency range, we use the Focal Flax in the rear to add "body" to the music, under 800hz which couples with the front mid-bass using the Phase C in the Mosconi DSP. The end result is a warmer, richer sound that improves the width of the sound stage and reinforces the frequencies that we need. Our focus is always two channel stereo, front stage but we use different "ingredients" from previous experience to accomplish this goal.

Each speaker series has a unique sound. Just have to trust the brand and have it tuned properly.

I really like seeing the finished project! I know you can't hear the imaging, but I wish you'd turn the system on and play it also. You didn't talk about the doors or kickpanels in this project. I'm sure there are woofers in one of those locations. Would love to hear about them. Thanks. P.S. I agree the sub enclosure is "Pretty Awesome!: As are the matching A pillar grilles.

We do so many of these, we just do not film the same thing over and over, but rather touch on some uniqueness of this build. I would not cut wholes in my 66 convertible gto for my Panasonic round speakers. Did bolt up and wire my Panasonic 1973 8 track. Bullet Proved with heavy wire. Put Panasonic round chrome coveed speakers in flower pots and dropped them the covetable caverns when top down. Made my own 8 tracks on Zenith Allegro system. . Recored Vinyl albums right on Sony blank 8 tracks. Better sound than store bought and boot legs. Sorry not a fan of altering original format but looks factory. Next time turn it up, with customer permission of course. Peace And love Bro. Mike From Scranton PA.

What do you use to integrate the factory radio with the amps? And does it give the same sound quality as an aftermarket stero with rca outputs? How do you know if the factory radio can output high quality audio like flac or hi res?

We use the Nav-TV Zen interface which provides us 24bit/48kHz over optical and 32bit/48khz over analog RCA. I noticed the 60side of the back seat when in the down position resting on the box it looked a little higher up than the 40side. Is that due to the plastic pull handle/release?

No, this enclosure is a new prototype that we are working on for these trucks. It is a single 10-inch, full frame Focal K2 Power sub that requires an additional "bubble" on the top. In order to get the proper airspace, tuning frequency and sound quality, we had to slightly modify the bottom of the seat to fit the subwoofer properly. So it sits slightly higher due to the carpet that needs to contour to the "bubble" which after a few heat cycles in the trucks interior, the carpet will mold to the "bubble" and the seat will sit flat like factory. We are constantly trying to maximize the factory space by trying new configurations and this one is tied with our four 6.5-inch setup we do in the other trucks.

Did you upgrade the electrical (alternator lithium etc) for that much power?

No, we have developed a way to optimize the subwoofer enclosure for maximum output and sound quality on minimum power. As you can probably tell from our other videos, we specialize in these high-power audiophile stereo systems, especially in these trucks. Beyond the enclosure, everything is set using test tools to not waste energy where it is not needed. The interior speakers do not consume a lot of energy for long, so you can run however much you want. It's inefficient subwoofer enclosures (port placement, sub placement, enclosure airspace vs subwoofer size, etc) that ruin factory electrical systems.

Vented, does require slight seat modification, you can see the “cap” on the top and the bottom of seat needs a slight trim.

The K2 Power vented like this video is one of the best choices for this truck. In the truck we have at the shop now, same setup but we ran four Flax 10-inch (like the Mustang video) on 2kwrms of power. Both are good, but the K2 has better blending/SQ and the Flax has more output/intensity.

it will be interesting reading their response to this question but I have seen before at other places the assertion that only tweeters sound best on-axis, that the other components image best when not pointed at listener. I can say that my Utopia M midrange was done in very similar manner and it is mind-blowing. but again, I know it is their response you are actually seeking.

Simply put, more width and depth in the sound stage. On axis sounds amazing, but you move the seat 2-inches and now you have a problem with staging. What's interesting, our customers and enthusiasts that have heard our systems actually prefer off-axis in our systems, its more fun to listen to and the sound stage is the size a iMax theater once it is tuned properly. BUT... You need to be very fluid with advanced DSP tuning, because if not, off-axis you will never get right. It's much easier to put them on-axis and sit in the perfect position to listen to your stereo. That's why you will read everywhere, on-axis is better... When it should read, I did on-axis because my DSP was limited or my tuning ability is limited and off-axis sounded bad.

Super Baja with off the shelf fox 2.0’s? Let’s not forget that Shelby North America has nothing to do with this vehicle it’s a tradmark rental and it’s built buy Tuscany in Indiana not in Vegas where Shelby is.
