I have to say Steve. Incredibly impressed by the very thorough evaluation of these cars. Keep up the great work. I ordered my Mustang GT PP w/ Magenride up in the Barrie area. Hopefully will be able to enjoy it for the last half of summer!
Thanks so much RJ, appreciate that! You're going to love that GT when it shows up and hopefully sooner than later. Reach out when you've got it on hand, would be great to connect and get some owner feedback!
Finally a review on the new ecoboost hpp. I ordered one in eruption green a couple months ago and couldn't find a review. I'll be picking it up in 1 week. Awesome job, can't wait to see more reviews from you!
@@CarsWithSteve yes my friend is my first mustang. 4 years I weigh for my credit. Now I have my mustang 2022. I talk you is awesome. I have others cars. This is very fast and strong 💪
The ecoboost performance package also adds in a duel mode exhaust thus the more aggressive exhaust sound. The ecoboost handling package adds large 19” tires with different rims , 4 piston brembo brakes. This rear wheel drive four banger is an excellent alternative to the GT and it is very competitive with many brands . This vehicle offers a great deal of flexibility ,its affordable and fun to drive daily and is under appreciated. The getrag manual transmission is a great feature however, it's not the fantastic one from the now discontinued ford focus RS.
It really is an under appreciated ride! I've never noticed any weird issues with the 6 speed whenever I've driven it.. but I'm also not using it as a daily driver. It would be great to have the option of upgrading to the tremec instead in the EcoBoost or GT!
Thank you for your review Steve! It is really helpful! Do you recommended Ford Mustang ecoboost for the winters in Toronto, Canada? Also for the ecoboost how good will be the Mileage ? You’re doing an incredible job! Thanks
You're welcome Abhiranjan, glad you found the video helpful! I have friends who drive their Mustangs year round.. just a few things you want to make sure of if you're driving it in the winter: - Get winter tires to improve traction - Throw a few bags of salt in the trunk to weigh down the rear end - On days when it's going to snow more than a few inches, don't go out because you'll probably get stuck Fuel economy in the EcoBoost is pretty good compared to the performance it pushes out - try to avoid fast starts when you're stopped and make sure you warm it up before driving and take 30 seconds to a minute to cool down before turning it off and you're good to go
Nice build! Interest rate is great, the 2023 model rate is way higher right now. If you haven't pulled the trigger, try to offer a bit under ($750 - $1,500) MSRP to close the deal ;)
Nice review, thx! One question for u, I’m 6-3 250ish. Any idea how I would fit in this? I have a 98 GT, 22,000 original miles (willed to me by my father) Too much sentimental value, so occasionally I just fold up and make it work (it’s not awful, but wouldn’t buy one on my own). I sat in a 2019 and was surprised how much room I had. So I’m wondering how these newer ones are. Thx in advance for any insight! (I would obviously avoid the recaro or any contouring seats)
You're welcome! If you fit in the 2019, you'd be ok in either a 2022-23 or even one of the newer 2024 models. Same space across the board for them! Haha was typing out Recaro seats and noticed the last part of your comment
Great video! I don't have a license (live in a city and driving won't be feasible), but watching this really makes me want to buy a mustang. Will you be doing a review of the coastal limited?
Thanks Robert! Waiting for a Coastal to come into a local dealer but it’s on the list. What build do you think you’d go for if you were to pick one up?
@@CarsWithSteve Thanks for your reply! Is there a big difference between the 2021 and 2022 models? I spent a lot of COVID designing a 2021 one online - velocity blue premium ecoboost with the pony package, and blue accented leather seats, automatic. It's a shame they removed the pony package and I have mixed feelings about the vinyl strip on the coastal, but the off-center grill ornament looks great.
@@robertl6442 anytime! Small differences.. the 2022 EcoBoost doesn't have the option for fog lamps anymore. Velocity Blue is now called Grabber Blue and is slightly darker too The stripe you could always remove and then have a local vinyl shop get you a custom one installed instead!
Hi Steve, Enjoyed the video! I am someone who always love Mustangs and would like to get one as a casual driver, (convertible) no tracking. Two questions: 1) I wanted the regular Eco boost, but my mechanic suggested to go for the Eco boost Premium if the extra cost isn't an issue. He says once you hit 60 MPH in the Eco boost, there's no upside like with the premium. 2) Do the Premiums ride more "stiff" is the term my mechanic used and it wouldn't be as enjoyable if just looking for a daily driver. Looking for your thoughts please! Thanks
Thanks Joey, you'll love being a Mustang owner! In terms of performance there's no difference from the standard EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium.. unless you look at the base 100a EcoBoost. When you get into the 101a it gives you toggle switches that let you change the drive and steering dynamics that aren't available on the base 100a. The big difference between the 101a EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium is that you get leather seats in the Premium with the standard factory navigation and a digital cluster if you go for the 201a. If you're a fan of leather the Premium will have heated/ventilated 1st row seats whereas the 100a/101a will be a cloth seat. The only way to get a stiffer suspension from the factory in the EcoBoost is to look at the EcoBoost high performance package with the dynamic handling pack that has MagneRide Hope this helps!
@@CarsWithSteve next car, the mustang is a huge dream of mine, currently owning a 2021 f-150 lariat and looking for a second car for more a a daily driver
@@zackariusst-aubin3042 ohh wait until the Detroit Auto Show reveal of the new look. I'm thinking something close to the styling of the Mach E exterior with the new Sync4 screen 🤞 The Lariat is a great F150 trim! What engine do you have in yours?
@@CarsWithSteve I can’t have leather in this weather, I am set on the HPP, a must have feature is the ventilated seats you seem to like them very much 🤣 in this weather I think they’d be a good investment for the future
Hello Steve, I have some other questions and hoping you will help!(especially knowing your familiarity with Mustangs and the Canadian winters!) and your videos have been an immense help for myself! Being from New Jersey (North Eastern U.S.) and we also some harsh winters (not as bad as yours I’m guessing) but here is my dilemma. I ordered a Mustang Eco boost Convertible in October and am expecting it shortly. My Dilemma/Questions: To get the 201A package, I had no choice but to order the 20” rims. My mechanic of twenty years told me come winter I would need to swap out the 20” rims for 19” rims and use snow tires come winter and I really shouldn’t use snow tires on the 20” rims because how wide they are, no traction. (so swapping tires AND rims twice a year ugh). My cousin in Florida (FROM N.J.) said don’t waste your time because if the roads are that bad your not using the car regardless of what rims and tires you have on there unless you use chains. Honestly, I don’t know what to do being this is my first Mustang and I prefer to not have to change rims and tires twice a year. 1)Should I just get 19” rims and swap tires out in winter or 2) keep the 20” rims/tires year-round, and if weather not good just use the wife car? 3)Get 19” all year seasonal tires? Thanks for whatever you can Advise! Joe
Hey Joe, glad the videos are helping! The 20" to 19" swap in the winter is a great recommendation from your mechanic - depending on the rest of the build you may be able to drop your winters down to 18". I'd 100% recommend getting a set of steelies and winter tires then just store them during the warmer months. Constantly swapping out the rubber on the same set of wheels eventually leads to breakdown of the tire wall and when you factor in the added cost of having to get them mounted/balanced it works out to be a better deal just to get a separate set. The all seasons are ok in the winter if there's no snow on the ground but with RWD it's worth it to get snow rated tires for improved traction. I'd say keep the factory 20" for the warm months, get a set of 18" or 19" steelies with snow rated tires for the winter!
@CarsWithSteve Steve, thank you for replying, it really means a lot, but I have a conundrum here. I picked up my 2023 Atlas blue convertible today (Eco boost base convertible) I don't know what the part is called, but when the roof is down, there are 2 slots that came in the trunk, And you would put them in so none of the gear mechanisms were showing. The salesperson I spoke with, who I know personally checked with parts, they no longer make that, and no longer comes with the car. I don't understand why, it leaves the gear mechanisms open on both sides, and anything can get in there when the roof is down. Do you happen to know if there are any aftermarket market companies that sell Ford exclusive parts? I need to check as it's just not good that's it's left open when the roof is down. Again. Thank you Joe
Wait.. it no longer comes with boot side covers? That's pretty weird. You can definitely find them on eBay but I'm surprised your Ford dealer isn't selling them anymore. OEM numbers are for the left and right side FR3Z-7631004-CA FR3Z-7631005-CA. Check out eBay "mustang convertible boot cover"
Going to depend on what you like the look of and what you want to do with it.. If the plan is to do ECU tunes it would be better to go with a current gen model. The re-designed interior looks great and the Coyote/EcoBoost engines have more stock horsepower in the 2024
Definitely a beautiful EcoBoost mustang .I do like the EcoBoost I had a 2016 EcoBoost premium an like it .definitely saved me on gas an my insurance payment then I traded it in an I got a 5.0 mustang gt premium with the coyote engine an everything change my insurance payment went high an so did my payment. Since I'm getting older now I'm going back to the new EcoBoost mustang with the performance package I like my gt but it's time to go back to the EcoBoost an save money on gas an lower my payment the video of the mustang steve was great
Thanks! The cost of gas is why a lot of people choose the EcoBoost in comparison to the GT. What build do you think you'd go for if you were to jump back into one again?
@@CarsWithSteve the EcoBoost I want to get is the mustang your showing that's the one I like .I hope you do more videos on the EcoBoost its definitely a great car
@@danielwebb9306 good taste, it's a fun ride! Hoping to have access to another one later this week so that should mean late August for another EcoBoost video!
@@CarsWithSteve awesome Steve cant wait till you do the next video I do like my gt but thinking smart now an going back to the EcoBoost premium saving on gas an lower my payment an insurance payment plus I'm getting older
The color is oddly based on when the vehicle was manufactured.. there was a switch part way through model years. It has backwards compatibility but dealers should have the green and orange available or just do a full flush if you want to switch it up
Good question! Could always look at importing but the easiest thing to do would be to upgrade a few parts yourself to give better performance than the HPP for the same cost
Very interesting to see the differences between the NA version and the one available in Australia. We literally have 2 real choices. GT or the High Performance. The only real difference is then auto vs manual and fastback vs convertible.
It's crazy how limited you guys are in Australia with the Mustang. Sounds like there's a pretty big market for these cars outside of NA. I'm surprised that it's the HPP EcoBoost that you have and not the standard one
@@CarsWithSteve As a point of reference the High Performance (Ecoboost) Model is $60k AUD for the auto version which is roughly $40k USD. The GT is $75k AUD. I believe these are like having the 201a and 401a packages added. As well as the performance packages. But I may be wrong and there could be some slight differences.
@@trentthomas1635 If those EcoBoost and GT models have the digital cluster it would be the 201a and 401a equivalent. When you look at buying the cars in AU are you buying from a Ford dealer or are they imported by the shop that does the conversion?
I love that they’re making a turbo 4, but there’s no way I would buy a fully loaded 4 cylinder for $50k when I can get a less spec 5.0 for less. That doesn’t make sense.
It's going to come down to wants.. some people like the better fuel economy while still having a car that can beat a lot of things on the road. But dollar for dollar the GT is the better buy performance wise
@@CarsWithSteve I appreciate that. I had a Mazdaspeed 3 and wanted the Ecoboost for the rear-wheel drive aspect. I drove a 4 cylinder but felt that the MS3 was more of a race car feel. Then, the salesman said there’s a base GT with rebates, etc. I started it and fell in love. I’m getting about 16.5 MPGs in the city and never been happier. I am pretty frugal and wouldn’t have paid sticker for it. It’s a glorious daily driver. I do appreciate your in depth dive into the Ecoboost.
@@wg8290 Haven't had a chance to jump in behind a Mazda in years but I'll have to try one out to see what you mean! Glad that you're enjoying your GT, I think most people that get behind the wheel of one say the same thing!
@@nickkennedy5406 Ah yeah that's right! It was changed out to be paddle shifters in the 201a and standard across the EcoBoost lineup when you get the High Performance Package
I think my mustang can take it. Don't like the California grill. Don't like the choice of rims that they give you. I would definitely go out and get some different aftermarket rims. Overall it's a nice looking car.👍👏🇨🇱🏴☠️🏁
The first modification I would go with would be the magna ride. The stealth package rims look much better than the rims are on there now. I like the blackout kit for the front grill in the blackout kit for the back lid. A bigger spoiler for the back trunk lid. And for the engine a cold air intake makes a lot of difference. That's how I would build my EcoBoost. Putting the cold air intake on my 2018 mustang made a ton of difference. It added 20 to 25 more horsepower more than I had. That's the difference between winning and losing a race. With a four cylinder. And with that four cylinder I can keep up with a GT 5.0. 👍🇨🇱🏴☠️🏁
@@anthonymedlock3105 sounds like it would be a good setup! 👍 It's crazy how much of a difference a cold air intake can make - have you been able to take your ride on a track much?
They're pretty close in power because of the way the 2.3L is tuned - even in the base EcoBoost. Just looking at the numbers: 2.3L EcoBoost - 310 hp / 350 torque 2.3L EcoBoost HPP - 330 hp / 350 torque 2.7L EcoBoost - 350 hp / 400 torque My guess as to why they went with the 2.3L.. differentiate the GT and EcoBoost a bit more
On paper it would beat the SXT and GT with the base 3.6L engine. The hemi in the R/T has about 8% more horsepower and 10% more torque. Gear ratios aren't far off so it would come down to skill of the driver on the track
Have a 2020 HPP....it died on me as I was entering the FWAY in L.A. Bad Piston is all I was told after 22,500 miles. Unreal!!! The Service Manager said I was the sixth victim so far, and one of them was a Mustang, not sure which Model....nor the 5 others who were also a victims of bad motors from Ford.....any one else hear about this trend? It will take a month to get a new motor replacement from Ford. At least they are paying for my Rental Car....
Oy, always not good hearing when a piston goes on any car. Only thing I've seen on forums about blown engines in the EcoBoost usually come after there's some kind of aftermarket work done. There have been a few videos and posts about occasional misfires but nothing related to recalls about bad pistons as far as I know
@@alanfine9825 Interesting.. knowing that, I just looked at some forums and it's happened to a few other EcoBoost owners too. Some people have used aftermarket Manley steel rods or a 2.0 closed block but still.. that issue shouldn't be happening
Only time I'd look at Recaro seats is if the car was only going on the track. If I was in the premium HPP I wouldn't want to give up heated/ventilated seats haha
