That is so so so awesome to hear! I plan on keeping this one forever so hearing from high-mileage owners is so cool to me. I really hope I can achieve that many miles on mine as well. I ride it as much as I can between my other toys! It’s just such an amazing machine. Thank you. 🤟👍

As you said, there is nothing to compare to the 701 SM. I got mine new in 2018 and I've done about 24k miles on it. Ok, it's less good for long distance but is a total blast to ride, and 100% a keeper!

If you don't mind doing more maintenance, the KTM 500, 525 or 530 is much more of a fun bike than these, a lot lighter. I have a 525, 450 and 1000. In my opinion you get a supermoto for fun and a heavy bike compared to a lighter bike is not as fun, you can't throw it around as much...

The lack of instrumentation was also a bother for me on this bike. Luckily there is a fix. There's an adding you can get from a company in Germany called Berotech. They make an instrumentation addon called the Cumpan (yes yes, a bit of an unfortunate name). It's a great piece of kit. It adds tacho, gear indicator, coolant temp, outside temp, and a few other features such as ice warning and rpm shift indicator. It's an amazing piece of kit and one of the best upgrades my 701 has. Love it!

Awesome bike. I was looking hard at this bike and the KTM690, but when I felt the weight difference between these and the Husky/KTM500s, I decided to buy the 500 and convert it to Supermoto, which works out to be a more expensive avenue. 220lbs dry weight on the 2024 500 and almost 100lbs more 320lbs on the 690 or 701. It is definitely noticeable when you are trying to throw the bike around. I have never ridden a street legal bike as light as the 500 with the power it has. You can really feel the weight difference when you are trying to steer on 1 wheel.

These bikes do come quite restricted from factory esp the years 2020+. However, they are really responsive to mods and before you know it you'll be bidding farewell to your licence. Love my husky. Can't think of a better alternative for what it does.

I switched from a 2019 MT-09 to a European 2021 701 SM. After like 3K miles I'm pretty happy with the bike, be it street riding or track. Here the up/down quickshifter, front and rear ABS, TC, lean sensitive IMU, slipper clutch, small turn signals, speedo with gear indicator, etc comes stock with every bike. Unfortunately it's EURO 5 which is even more restrictive than the US bike.
@JonesBrosGarage
@JonesBrosGarage Год назад
Yeah it’s super nice you guys get the gear indicator and turn signals but the emissions is such a shame! That’s one thing I’m happy about with the US model. They’re both still badass bikes either way. I see alot of people coming from mt09s or 07s to this bike!

The slipper clutch helps with launches and makes the rear wheel not lock up and slide out during downshifts... To shift up with the quick shifter, you need to be on the gas. Not letting off. Not just maintenance throttle. It is made for performance, so it works best when you are riding at a "sporty" pace... And it does have a 6axis emu.

21 has no more issues with the clutch slave 22-23k km's now and wheelie literly everyday hasnt failed me yet. After the mods I had 80hp to the backwheel and 82nm of torque, it's definitly a big improvement over stock I have 16/47 sprocket setup now before with the tune I was still running stock 16/42. stock setup with tune did powerwheelies in 2nd with pull in 3rd and 4th with leg on the back. I had the same problem before the tune with getting the wheel up. 16/47 setup you can powerwheelie easily from gas in 3rd even trying 1 handed wheelie pulls up with it lol, 4th with a slight pull and 5th with pumping. Nice thing about this setup together with the quickshifter is the insane acceleration, I can just give gas in 2nd powerwheelie to 3rd with quickshifter and even to 4th while not even bringing the front down 5th depends how high you're in the wheelie when you shift.

Regarding the wheelies, it does look like you're leaning forward in the wheelie (the camera gets closer to the handle bar) and that won't work. You need to keep almost straight arms to get it to power wheelie in higher gears.

KTM/Husq are smart, they took the most updated designs of the stock bikes, combined em and made it better with a "big-bore"... the 501 is the 450 "big bore" and the 701 is 345lbs, thats the 650 class "big bored" (the bore is actually the same, they change the stroke)

@@JonesBrosGarage Lamb chop is great and covered a top series of episodes in that build. The Tekmo kit he used is really nice quality too but expensive - I’m planning on customising with some of their kit but will be at a later date. His bike I believe was also a pre-euro 5 model and suited to easy fuel mapping lower down than the model I’m purchasing. I’ll have to be a bit careful and not screw my warranty with any changes in the ECU. CRT performance parts specialise in Husqvarna and KTM aftermarket parts and are just down the road from me which is handy. Will give you a build update as thing progress buddy.
@JonesBrosGarage
@JonesBrosGarage Год назад
@@fleabit1047 yeah I actually did a video on tekmos parts, I got all of them. They’re really good quality and transform the bike. I didn’t want some of them but Rottweiler had a really good package deal that included them all and now I’m glad I got all of them. That new Euro 5 tuning is a shame that’s the one perk of having the US bike, at least for 2022, I’m sure ours will get the same treatment in the next year or two as usual.

Cool video! The big KTM is just plain fun, it is smooth and it has fat power. I have a Husky 701 Enduro with a PC6 with Rottweiler's map and their delete dongles as well. It is just stupid, power wheelies for days - LMAO. Put an exhaust on it, feed it more fuel and hang on man 😆 Better yet, the low end is solid off idle, you can lug it down to 35 MPH in 6th and it pulls like a bull with the low end fueling filled in. Ya may not even want to gear it down once you do the fueling mods. The Enduro is also stable at silly speeds, even with the blocky tire and 21" front wheel.

Great video and review! I’ve been thinking hard about a KTM 500 conversion or a 690 SMCR as a first bike. But at the same time thinking something like a Ducati desert sled would be cool. I have a feeling you’d say to go for the supermoto??
@JonesBrosGarage
@JonesBrosGarage Год назад
Honestly that’s a though choice, they’re all drastically different. Of them all, I personally pick the 690smcr. I’ll tell you why, and why that might not be right for you. The KTM 500 is sweet as a supermoto, it’s lighter than the 690 and will feel a lot snappier than the 690 pre-exhuast,airbox, tune. The downside is obviously the maintenance, while it is a reliable bike and you can push the service limits.. it still will be drastically more maintenance than the 690 or Ducati. The 690 is a killer bike. It’s light enough to feel like a true supermoto still, it’s reliable for the most part and it’s low maintenance. It’s an absolutely brilliant platform to “build”, probably one of the best on the market for aftermarket support. It responds very well to performance mods. The downside is without these performance mods, it lacks the snap and sharp edge of a true supermoto like the 500. The Desert Sled is also a sick bike. I love Ducati and I have ridden one. It handles street better than both of the other bikes, and can handle some light off-road duty well. It feels a little less hooligan than the other bikes and will keep you out of more trouble. It has a unique look the other bikes don’t necessarily have. The downside is it’s a Ducati, and repairs or parts are costly.. and also the fact it’s less “sporty” than the other two. Honestly, though choice.. 3 drastically different bikes.. and can’t go wrong with any of them. I prefer the 690.
@teh_realdeadpoole9036
@teh_realdeadpoole9036 Год назад
@@JonesBrosGarage Hey, really appreciate the in-depth reply. I think I’m on a fence and leaning either go full street or go full supermoto (with the 690 being somewhere in between - and I do t think I’d mind the maintenance). As a first bike, I think a supermoto would be better to learn riding skills, clutch control (e.g., wheelies, etc.) and if I drop the bike not such a big deal. Also, will be fun to drive around the neighborhood and we have some twisty hilly roads here in CT. Very tempted to go full street bike though as well, for the money, could buy a pretty decent street bike for the cost a new KTM. IDK the list of pros and cons could probably go on forever….. ahhhhhhhh. So many options :)

I was watching you on the big screen and you said you just were coming home from the dealership and going 120 miles an hour nice to break it in isn't it I worked on bikes professionally all my life since I was 20 years old 62 and never taken a bike and beat on it new before the components inside polish themselves to their running clearances I've had bikes with 90,000 miles (I put on from new and they sound better than people's bikes with 20,000 on them you don't know it but you're doing engine damage the Bike ( trust me)I'm looking at the 23 Husqvarna 701 SM or the KTM 690 SM going to go look at it this Sat and go from there

I want one so bad but I don’t want to be bothered by the cops every single time they see me, It would ruin the experience. They see a bike that looks like that I’ll be pulled over every time even if it is legal because they just wanna make sure. Especially like yours where you took everything off like mirrors, signals and the plastic rear extension for the plate and made everything more hidden. Plus the first thing I would do is get rid of that horrible exhaust which I’m sure cops wouldn’t like that either. I got pulled over for goin through a stop sign on a pedal bicycle once. Pathetic I know, I couldn’t even enjoy a ride on a bike like yours without anticipating some sort of police encounter even when not breaking any laws. I’m a dirtbiker at heart. Everywhere I used to ride as been developed or shut down so I was considering getting the 701 so I can ride anywhere and make the switch to street. Idk though I’m kinda nervous to ride a bike on the street and the police don’t make it any easier.

Can it handle the abuse of the typical supermoto guy though? My bikes slide down the road a lot. Lol I really want one. I’m just afraid I will murder it.

Struggling to wheelie on this bike……you can’t do wheelies bro.

Yeah I do suck at wheelies. Of course it’s possible to wheelie this in second under just power. I’m able to clutch it up in third. My point was it’s definitely not easy to power up in second, it’s very very restricted with the stock emissions. I fight to keep 450s down in second under full pin, this thing you really need to be pulling your weight back, or compressing the forks.

wow you have to have an muffler as big as your bike in the U.S but 90% of people drive big cars trucks etc. Is that just american logic? First thing id be doing is getting rid of that monstrosity
