Your 701 is a great choice! After upgrading your air intake, exhaust, and ECU, the power will truly blow you away! I used to only ride sport bikes while living in Southern CA, but after moving to a remote area of CO, I prefer off-road adventures, and only ride on the street to get to my favorite trails. I recently purchased a 2023 KTM 350 EXC-F and upgraded exhaust, airbox, and the ECU, now it performs like my 500 EXC used to. I think we all go through the sports bike phase, but the risks of speeding tickets, getting killed from riding too fast with others is too high. You mentioned the initial cost of a high-end sport bike, plus expensive upgrades, maintenance, and uncomfortable riding position, so you made a great choice! Enjoy this awesome new bike and share videos of all your upgrades!

I really appreciate it! I have another build series video coming out soon and am going to get back into my regular postings. I’m still loving this bike. I’m saving power mods for last still and know I’ll be blown away by them, the bike is already great in stock form but obviously missing some snap and throttle response. I’m actually interest in purchasing a ktm 350 exc-f or a yz250f eventually as well! Id like to venture more into off-road riding. I’m so happy being able to feasibly afford doing tons of mods on this bike without feeling guilty, I’m the type of person who makes BIG purchases such as new bikes,cars,watches but generally refuse to make small purchases in order to reach those goals. Owning a bike such as the Panigale V2 I couldn’t justify paying the insane price for mods over just simply saving for another bike. The issue with that is I love working on my bikes and it makes me feel a lot more connected to them so I really wanted a bike I can constantly be working on, yet is reliable. This 701 is my favorite bike I’ve ever owned. 👍

Absolutely bang on. I had a Gixxer 750, loved it, but it wasn’t comfortable below 130k because of the ergonomics. I traded it for a KTM 530 XCRW. Around town the dirt bike is a scalpel, super flickable, weighs less than 250 lbs, and will still do 100 miles an hr with dirtbike gearing. I bought an Indian FTR 1200, which is basically a dirtbike on steroids :) this guy is 100% correct. I miss my sport bike sometimes, but love my KTM all of the time. The Indian so far has been incredible too.

I jumped from a 2019 MT-09 to the 2021 701 SM... and it's plenty fast, very stable even at 120mph. The stock suspension and tires are excellent. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the switch, I feel zero urge for more power even at the track. My national champ superbike instructor took it for a spin and he was highly impressed by the handling. Not seeing myself buying a heavier bike again.

I agree.. it’ll be hard for me to go back to a regular superbike now. Of course superbikes are awesome for high speed, the mt09 is also better than the 701 for that. But that’s about it.. I feel like I’m skipping the sport bike phase. I started on an Indian scout rogue thinking I was gonna love cruisers and it’s why I got a bike license to begin with but after a year of ownership I found myself hitting corners harder and more frequently while hating long boring straight rides. I went to a stunt show and watched the riders having an absolute blast and I wanted some of that action, looked at various naked bikes and discovered supermotos and this definitely fits my personality a lot more than my scout ended up doing to me. But supermoto is a completely different world and it’s gonna take time to learn and figure out what I want to buy

As a general rule, I’ve always hated urban riding. I live in Houston The 701SM was the only bike that made it tolerable. Tight twisties and track days were no problem. My insurance was super cheap. I had a couple of hard drops of my 701, at a full stop and loose my balance, because I’m short and could only get 1 toe down or hop off on side, at any rate, I dropped the 701, had no damage or issue picking it up. Only had 2 issues, 1. It’s too tall for me. 2. Riding on the highway in Texas. Sold the 701 and bought an 890R Duke. I can’t hop curbs and ride off-road on the Duke but it’s fun and works for me.

I just love the speed of my s1000rr, I love that I can evade if need be, can't do that on a supermoto, highways absolutely suck on a supermoto, twistes both are just as fun to me, city rides I'll give to supermoto cause of jumps and stuff.

@Underhills 3 месяца назад
My experience with SM bikes is that they are very agile and fun to ride on tight roads and everyday commute in the city, but on the highway it's a different story. I sold my KTM Duke 640 cause of this. Too much wind and vibrations etc. Another comfort issue is the seat, it's not made for longer trips. But if I didn't have much mileage on highways a SM bike is definitely a very valid option for all reasons mentioned in the video.

@@JonesBrosGarage Yes I do run the bike on that sport setting all the time now, I'm too lazy to change it every time, I like it as it is with the sport setting on (massive improvement) btw I donno if yours is euro 5 in US but here it is (UK), I would suggest the following first mods : wings exhaust (way cheaper than any brand out there, full titanium with carbon tip, the fella that makes them used to work for akrapovic factory), fuel dongle if its euro 5 as the bike runs with too much air, 15 front tooth sprocket, oberon clutch cilinder (they had problems with it failing in the past) , and think for the future DNA stage 2 air filter intake and air box (crucial before you put the air filter on to reflash the ecu to make it run with more fuel). After all of this the bike will be completely different in the best way possible. Seen the other video of yours with things you hate.. seat is absolutely shit and everyone knows it lol, this is the first SM ever to have a quickshifter from factory so yea its not the best, and fuel indicator.... well reset your trip meter and usualy it does 120 miles with a tank.

I also will be changing my gearing. 👍 Apparently they fixed the clutch slave cylinder so for the sake of RU-vid I’m leaving it stock and seeing if it survives, I have the Oberon in my cart if it doesn’t and would make sure to let everyone know. Also good point on the quick shifter, it’s not the end of the world but would be awesome if it worked better. Hahah yeah you’re definitely right. If it was the weight of a real 450 mx bike I’d probably be in jail by now! 😂 I do think the extra power and the way it carries its weight (low center of gravity and rear mounted gas tank) really make it feel lighter than it is. And I’m completely happy with my decision to switch to the 701. I haven’t even had a regret yet. If you ride a lot of high speed highway you might have a little regret.. @@JonesBrosGarage I really need to get out and ride one now. I have more mx/enduro based sumos and i feel like the 701 is exactly what's missing from my stable atm. Have you any experience on a 450? I always wonder how it compares with feel or how it compares to an mt07. I always found outside of the soft/underdamped suspension of the mt07, it's one of the easiest handling bikes around. It makes you so much faster than you'd be on other bikes, i wonder if the 701 feels the same.
@JonesBrosGarage
@JonesBrosGarage 2 года назад
@@sumosevn I’ve briefly ridden some new 450mx bikes in stock form. The 701 is way way faster, but also feels very “caged” by the emissions standards since it’s street legal. It lacks that “snap” of a 450mx in stock form. Probably also because the gearing will take you to 125mph easily. If you get exhaust, tune and down gear which is my plan I think you’ll find a bike more brutal than a 450, a tad less raw, but way better handling. The suspension and brakes on the 701 can’t be praised enough.. it’s an incredible set of gear for a supermoto. The stopping power and suspension is waaaaay more sport bike level than a stock 450mx bike. I think you’d be happy with it all in all.. yes it’s a tiny bit less raw than a 450 and obviously you’ll notice the extra weight if you’re doing slow speed wheelies and stuff… but riding fast, the 701 is an absolute beast. Also my wife has an mt07… the suspension is night and day compared to the 701.. the 701 is leagues faster and yes I do feel quicker on the 701 than the Ducati on anything but straights

Was considering the 701/ 690 prior to the Hypermotard 950. The Ducati does what the Husky/ KTM won’t & the KTM/ Husky do what the Ducati Hyper won’t do. I love quick mountain back road corners and I love the extra power I get with the Duc on the interstate roads. It was a difficult choice to make.

@@JonesBrosGarage Is if euro 5 2022? Because then alot of mods won't work or give you more performance. Pirate racing proofed that intake mods on the 701 2022 don't do anything even when adjusting the air fuel ratio. Further more O2 dongles won't work either since the ecu will throw a code so they have to minimize the resistance in the dongle till it does nothing. Power commanders won't work either since the closed loop will simply overwrite anything you do because of that emissions crap. I would go with the coober ecu and a decatted muffler. The coober ecu is currently the only mod that does something significant on the euro 5 bikes.

I had my girlfriend on the back once and it was not enjoyable. id go alot bigger for a bike that would be fun for a passenger to ride on. the ktm 1290 maybe. I used to have a moto guzzi norge 1200 and that handled a passenger well and was really comfortable to ride. Not as agile as a supermoto but for a passenger i have yet to find a bike that could match it. Its surprising how much different as passenger makes.

I have a ktm 690 SMC AND A GSXR750. These bikes are used for completely different things. If your riding in tight canyon slow speed corners the supermoto is great but if your in high speed sweeper turn roads then your going to get destroyed like where the V2 is good at.
@JonesBrosGarage
@JonesBrosGarage 2 года назад
I agree. I typically don’t find myself on sweeping roads where 110+ mph is needed. I’ve noticed my brother on his monster 1200s (similar to the V2) will pull away out of the apex of a turn onto a straight, but I’m right with him again at the next set of corners. The V2/supersport bikes definitely excel on more open roads and highways of course. 👍 Oh and that’s an awesome duo you have

Im very happy with it only issue is 255 kg is abit heavy to flip around and play with it , after Ducati hyper . Im looking now to change Xadv to Ducati Sp Hyper or 701 Husky or smcr 690, Ofcourse Sp is heavier and more expensive but handsome good looking bike also I really like 701 Husky , and for sure I dont want heavier bike , ı was also looking at 450 husky but I think thats not road bike ( only for track ) ,, So there is 3 options 701 or 690 or the SP , since you owe one 701 what do you think ?? Thankyou

@JonesBrosGarage 2 года назад
Yeah sadly the 450smcr is track only. It has a crazy amount of maintenance too but would be an awesome street bike. I honestly can say if you want something that feels extremely light get the 690smcr or 701. They’re both the same just pick which color you like. They’re extremely fun and feel much lighter than any adv or Supersport motorcycles do. The hypermotard sp is an awesome bike but it’s a lot more similar to a standard naked bike or sport bike, also the same weight. It would feel like a cross between something like a Ducati monster/Yamaha mt09 and a 701. I personally love the 701 but also want the Ducati Hypermotard sp eventually so it’s a hard choice. I definitely would say the Ducati feels more like a “normal” motorcycle though, and the 701 definitely has the lightweight, playful supermoto feel

The last think I would like to ask Some people use to mention 690 vibrate less then 701 , in old models , Do you think in new models , Did 701 improve that vibration ? Thankyou .. 🛵
@JonesBrosGarage
@JonesBrosGarage 2 года назад
@@elifelif777 yes they both varied from year to year. I think at one point the ktm had better vibration dampeners on the bars but I’m not positive. What I know for sure is the 701 got an extra balancer shaft which smoothed out vibration. Originally the KTM didn’t have it. Now they’re both identical. I think it was around 2020+ where ktm added it and matched the 701. Either way they’re identical now!

@@You-Toober My 2016 Husqvarna 701 had these problems: 1 - The handlebar was scratched before leaving the store. covered by warranty 2 - On the seat of the 2016 version there were some stickers with the Husqvarna logo, these came off, it was covered by the guarantee. 3 -The brake pedal spring had an alloy problem and it broke, it was not covered by the warranty 4 - The rear suspension adjustment nut is made of plastic and is damaged when adjusting by the technical service, it is not covered by the guarantee, nor is it covered by the official store. 5 - The suspension fork leaks oil, not covered by warranty. 6 - The engine leaks oil through several joints, not covered by warranty. 7 - The front brake disc has irregular braking after 2000 miles, the guarantee covers only half the price, with the new disc the problem appears again at 2000 miles, the guarantee does not cover it. 8 - design error in the exhaust protection, causing your left pants to burn just above the ankle. Maybe some jeans can withstand the heat, but if it is made of synthetic material, direct contact with the exhaust manifold will cause a hole. 9 - the yellow stickers on the rims of the 2016 model come off easily, not covered by warranty. These should come painted and varnished. 10 - All the fairing plastics are unpainted or varnished, that white color is that of the same plastic material, which causes it to scratch very easily without the possibility of polishing, and that the adhesives are exposed to detachment due to friction, it is a design error causing early write-down.
@forkom9348
@forkom9348 2 года назад
In any case, this happened to me and the same thing should not happen to you at all, it was also the fault of the official store that did not know how to manage the guarantee well. The 701 has evolved since that 2016 version. I have already seen the video and now I fully understand your reasons, the 701 is designed for superiority on secondary roads with many curves and in poor condition, the heat it gives off is minimal, the maintenance of the spare parts is low, it is very easy to disassemble it, speed bumps do not exist on this bike, but... you have to understand that not only the bike, but also the manufacturer Ducati is intended for another client, who wants the highest quality, the best technology, the best design , but you don't want to see your motorcycle at every traffic light, so raising the purchase price, maintenance and spare parts is the only way to achieve exclusivity.
