2022 Outlander - real life 7 seat test!

Can the all new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander comfortably carry 7 passengers? Let's find this answer in this video! :) In Canada 3rd row passenger seat is a standard equipment! 3rd row seating is one of the most popular options on the Outlander but we get asked a lot if 7 people can actually fit in the Outlander? Is comfy? Let's head to the closest Starbucks to find that out! :)

Finally! A fair review with the use of the 3rd row. Most reviewers do not even bother adjusting the driver seats to make space. Should be common sense. Thanks for doing this!

I had the 2020 car for a year and I had to trade it unfortunately. Once it’s full of seven people (with kids on the back) the car is really heavy and will lack the power to drive especially on eco mode. I have little kids and lemme tell you, we were cramped in there but as a 5 seater, its an okay car. If you have a carseat in the middle - it will take up most of the space. This is great for a quick soccer play and to give your kids friends a ride. You wouldn’t last 2 hours sitting on the back thats for sure especially the 3rd row. A small luggage wont even fit the width of the trunk unless you put it sideways. But for the price, it’s good 👍🏻 There is no spare tire but it includes tire kit. You need to remove the headrest of the 3rd row before you can fold it properly. You can tuck in the headrest on the hidden compartment in the trunk. Note that both the 2022 and the 2020 models were out when I purchased the 2020 in the year 2021 lol. I was fortunate enough to compare them side by side and has the same exact space. I went with 2020 (brand new) because of the price.

You took the words right out of my mouth. It only makes sense to adjust the other rows so the passengers in the 3 row can be comfortable as well. This car is not a full size SUV, so of course the 3rd row will not be large. It is a great feature to have for an SUV in this class.

I have watched 37 mitsu outlander videos with almost all saying it's a useless 3rd row NONE of them even showed that the 3rd row reclines (my first time seeing that) and that all rows can be adjusted to some what make use of all rows - I'm so glad I subscribed to your channel ❤ I have an outlander sport and looking to upgrade to outlander and I find your videos honest and extremely informative!! Very happy you did this! All these reviewers don't make the slightest changes to the seating positions when they post their reviews re the Outlander's third row. It's only common sense to have to adjust everyone's seating positions to maximize room and comfort for everyone. It's nice to see that carrying 7 people is very much possible in the Outlander. Admittedly, I've tried the third row on the new Outlander and it's even smaller than the one in my 2017 Outlander GT. But, it's good to see that it's still usable. Great video!

Having additional vents in the rears makes a huge difference. I have been driving 2017 Outlander which sadly have the vents only in the front and in summer it gets really hot in 3rd row. I am glad they addressed the issue in newer models. I ended up buying a plug in car fan for the third row. Pluged it in the outlet available in the trunk.

Appreciate the honest feedback - I test drove one of these this weekend. Loved the features on the GT model particularly at that price point, but realistically this is 5 seater with a third row forced in. I can see this being a great car for a smaller family 5'6 and shorter, but I'm 6'2 (190lbs for reference) and I found sitting everywhere in this car, including the driver seat to be short in terms of leg room and narrow in terms of seat and leg well width.

Outlander should redesign to have a flat/straight rear window as the new ones are coming out with the design. Then they can have the 3rd seat slide to 2 inches further. One of the cheapest 3-row and cheapest Japanese branded SUV. And replace with 9-speed auto transmission. CVTs have issues so far with reliability. As it is if 3-rows are for little kids and emergencies, 10-year drive terrain warranty, this is a good buy.

I almost bought this but they have markups over MSRP. Bought Subaru Outback instead, which did not have much markup, though not 7 seating. If there is one dealership reasonable tell me so I can recommend it, around the tri-state area.

I own a 2022 outlander and the 3rd row is useless, whenever we have to use the third row it’s always a hassle for who has to sit in the 3rd row, also took a trip to Florida from Illinois and it was 6 of us, I had my 9 year old sit in the 3rd row and she said it was kind of tight, but she was just happy she was going to Disney lol. But I had no room for luggage so I had to buy a roof cargo box for the luggage, which gave me an mpg of 17 mpg! On eco mode! REALLY 17 mpg for a 4 cylinder on eco mode!!! I’ve taken the same trip to Florida 4 time, the other 3 times in my Lincoln MKX and this last trip in the outlander was the most uncomfortable! Overall okay suv for a 5 seater but if your going to be using the 3rd row frequently not the choice you want to make. I have a 2 year old in a car seat, 15year old, and 9 year old and definitely a tight fit. I also own a Lincoln MKX and the interior is way more spacious, you don’t feel like your on top of each other. Definitely trading it in as soon as I can, if your looking for a good 3rd row suv with leg room and good cargo space, Chevrolet traverse, Chevrolet suburban, GMC Yukon XL, and finally Ford expedition MAX. I have done my research since I don’t want to do the same mistake again the above trucks are the best cargo space with the third row and most economical $$$……Hope this helps….. 6inches to a foot wider and 1 foot to 2 feet longer and add a turbo to the 4 cylinder or upgrade to a 6 cylinder and it would be an amazing suv!

You bought a midsize suv, what did you expect? Obviously a larger suv will have more 3rd row leg room. The 3rd row really isn’t for big families anyway, it’s more for the occasional use. It’s the only suv in its class with a 3rd row, it’s no different if the rav 4 had a 3rd row, etc. and what did you expect with the mpg with all that weight? You probably would have gotten 19mpg if all your stuff fit in the back.

7 ? But how many can you fit - ON THE ROOF RACK ? My 2005 Outlander has silly wee inner grip loops, inside the rain gutter in the top of the roof itself (under a weather strip that runs front to back) - meaning there are ONLY three possible mounting positions - for "roof-rack" load bars, for this model car. Unlike the full length open gutter-grip RAIN-GUTTER railing, of my 1996 Delica Starwagon, which allowed me to fit "as many" across the top gutter mounted load bars as I needed, such that I had two "almost together" at the front, one permanent & the other removable, with another two (removables) further back - spaced apart for actual "loads". I had the 2nd load bar absolutely FULL of assorted LED lamps, and spot lights, with strip lights along the leading edge as well as indicators on each end. Oh plus the radio aerial that I mounted in the exact middle of that load bar too - with a plug/socket permanently mounted on the front load bar, along with a 7-pin socket/plug for all the LED lamp arrays on the top 2nd (removable) load bar. I actually had so many LED lamps and spots up there, all controlled by various switches from a control box I mounted at the front of the center console, just behind the two gear levers, that I could DRIVE AT NIGHT, on or off road, without using the main vehicle lights. It was an amazing sight, to see road signs lit up with a blueish tint, as well as seeing distant signs and roadside animals etc., far quicker (further away) than when I used just the vehicle's main lamps. Using everything though - that was best (along with the yellow fogs behind the bull-bar/nudge-bar). Sadly, changing to the Outlander meant - no outside of vehicle (rain) gutter grips, and also nowhere to mount the control box, amongst the sliding elbow rest and the other junk in the center console area. plus it's dismal fog lamps were so low, I couldn't use them as fog lights, as they blinded me with the fog dazzle in the beam - between the road and me. On the Delica my master fogs were amber on the front bars - but my super bright LED Spots, that I used for distant driving lights, meant that FOG was lit up above me, allowing me to clearly see the road (under the very bright fog that was lit up so high. .. But - maybe I can fit something far more useful, than the ignorant/useless fogs they fitted low down on the front panel of this outlander, where they were the FIRST to get smashed by logging trucks "forestry stones and mud" being dropped by them - that bounced and rolled along the road, just at the right height to take out low mounted fogs (that I never got to use). I MAY be able to fit yellow LED spots into the same mounts (with some form of stone guard on them), and control them from somewhere other than a rotary switch on the headlight dip/main stalk, that means they (the fogs) ONLY OPERATE when the main beams (high or dip) are used - something weird to me as NZ Law states that fogs MUST NEVER operate with main beams on, and must use the sidelights too. Having these fogs ONLY on a rotary stalk switch, that operate ONLY when the side/main beams are on - makes turning them on/off when driving, extremely difficult, as I am NOT used to having so many main lights, and the dips and fogs, all on the ONE STALK. I also want to control them my way, such that they can be aux hazard lights if needed. (or super bright turn signal lamps - instead of the piddly wee ones high up inside the headlight cluster) The old Delica 4wd Van had a special fog switch, away down by my knee (on the main metal dashboard), while the headlight switch was up closer to the steering wheel, and the high/dip was a flick "either up or down" on the stalk. Which is why I loved my roof lights, as I controlled them with my (free) hand as it "rested" on the center mounted box, and the roof mounted lights lit up everything before my eyes got above the horizon, meaning I never had DARK spots on the road ahead of me, no matter how undulating the road ahead was. By having my own controls for the roof lights, also meant it was an idiot who tried coming at me on high beams, as I would (completely) LIGHT THEM UP - with what can only be described as "sunlight". I could also play patterns by flicking several switches in many different configurations, to "blink" at long-haul Truckies, many of whom could also play with their own multi-cab (and front of truck) fender & roof lights. Anything to keep a truckie awake was my motto, knowing that many on NZ's roads before about 2010, seldom saw another trucker - the roads being that empty of traffic at times in rural districts of NZ. Ah well, the complications one has, when replacing an old favourite, with something modern that doesn't really meet my standards of "driver controls".

In Manila I am pretty sure they can fit 12 people in there: 7 adults then 3 small kids on top of the 2nd row, 1 on top of the passenger side and 1 more on the middle of the front row...actually 13 if they have a baby on the 3rd row...LOL

Sometimes, just because you can, doesn't (really) mean you should. But I guess, if you need to haul 7 adults and this is all you have, then let's hope the journey isn't far. I still never understood three rows in something the size of a Camry/Accord/6/Altima.
