Yes the 10 speed transmission is the king of the show. OK round eye you give me only 252 horse 273 torque. 10 speed transmission birthday! You lose round eye!!!
Less than 300 hp can be easily managed with FWD, more than that becomes harder to control and AWD comes into place. I knew the Accord would win, hands down. The Subaru Engine is strong, but the CVT kills the performance and the AWD loses power to the wheels in performance testing. However, this race is pointless because no Legacy owner would buy one to race, they are mature, family cars, soft, comfy, roomy, smooth, stable, built for safety. The Accord still has that racy Honda vibe, it's more childish and surprinsingly fast for it's looks, it depends on what you want.
I own a 2021 Leagcy GT and it's a great car. Yeah, the CVT dumbs down the performance and driving a bit but I'm a middle aged guy who isn't out looking to race Hondas, though I can't help but to think how great it would be if they put the Toyota AT that's in the the BRZ. I believe the CVT is a mainstay for Subaru because that transmission helps them get their MPG numbers for an AWD car.
Agree. Also if you wanna race then go get Golf GTI. Honda Accord is a good car but whether it goes faster than Legacy or not for me it does not matter, it's just not a race car
Love my Legacy. That CVT really can get in the way at times. Personally, I bought an XT (GT) because I wanted space and extra passing power. For racing stuff, I’d look towards the more purposeful Subies. Great video!
This is definitely an interesting video! I also love my legacy and I live in New England. Next they should try chaining the 2 together and see who pulls who. Not every subaru is a race car hahahaha
I have been telling people this. “It’s not bad if you are driving like a normal person.” Highway merging with my legacy and trying to overtake someone is like watching pain dry.
Love my ‘20 Honda Accord Touring 2.0T! Such a fine car to own and drive. Really looking forward to what Honda is going to do with the next generation Accord.
Also I’ve been noticing that most people don’t know how to properly use Subarus paddle shifters, there’s a special hidden “sport mode” that is activated whenever the paddles are used and it does indeed make the car pull harder…And believe it or not, it’s best used by leaving the cvt in regular D gear…..
2019 Accord 2.0t 6 speed daily driver here. It is a total sleeper and a swiss army knife. Cruises like a dream, can sip gas if you try, can chirp tires at a moments notice, plenty of room for passengers or cargo. 31k miles and counting of very pleased driving.
@@applepoop10 kinda, but it’s a detuned version with over 50 less horsepower, and the accord doesn’t have the track dynamics of the Civic Type-R. So it’s still tacky.
I really wish car makers would stop putting garbage CVT transmissions in any car that is even remotely sporty. I absolutely will not buy a car with a cvt in it.
Thank you Sam! Wonder how much of a difference the accord would have made with the stock rims. Still hoping we get a chance to see the current Nissan Maxima vs Honda Accord 2.0t sport.
Very nice comparison. It is not surprising because the Subaru only have 8 horse power more but it's a lot heavier and also the AWD will reduce some of the power going to the wheels. The Subaru needs 300 HP and a proper transmission and it will be an ideal everyday car in all weather conditions. They are genuinely built.
Thanks for doing this Sam. Subaru has been really disappointing lately. They have this stupid love affair with the CVT that has no sport mode. I drive an Ascent and it share common characteristics as the Legacy GT. Slow and slumbering. No drive modes and the CVT with the fake shifts programmed into it just plain sucks. The last time I had fun driving a cvt was my 2017 Forester XT with SI-Drive.
You say the Ascent is slow? The Atlas and the Telluride are also 7 seater Family SUVs and the Ascent has a turbo and faster than those cars. For it's category, the Ascent is actually faster.
@@phuzaxeman for it's category, the Ascent has more pep compared to its normally aspirated counterparts as it should because of the turbo. The downside to it is that the driver should keep the turbo spooling all the time because without the boost, the Ascent is a slug. With the turbo spooling all the time, there goes the gas mileage that was supposed to be achieved by the smaller 4 cylinder engine.
@@chrisg5101 please find where I compared the Ascent to be as fast as a car. My post is about how Subaru has been disappointing as of late. How the Ascent shares the same " novelties" with the Legacy XT/GT such as NO Sport Mode, the disappointing CVT and the way it's programmed. It even has a recall that Subaru has not yet found a fix for. I've had 4 Subarus and I have seen how it was fun cars to drive being mainstream and boring. We all have different opinions about our cars but reading comprehension is key.
Brake boosting the Legacy will make it accelerate much quicker than in this video. The CVT doesn’t “shift” when brake boosted and will shave several tenths off 0-60 and quarter mile times. Wish they would have used the technique in this video. Race would be much closer.
Except for the WRX and WRX STI Subaru have been de-sportifying their Cars. They stopped making Turbo charged Legacies and then started back because of public outcry but made them less performance than the GT/GT Spec b models and the GT models from the 5th generation. Then they stopped making Turbo Forresters. So there is a general theme of making their cars less performance oriented. While other companies have been increasing their power output Subaru has maintained the power on the STI @ 305 HP for 10 years.
That CVT is the biggest offender. Having a higher weight doesn't help either but the CVT just doesn't seem to get the power down as well as a traditional transmission. If they'd lose the fake shifting it would help to. Why even bother to further cripple the CVT with fake shifts?
That cvt kills the subaru,it limits the power so it won't hurt it.It seems like the engine doesn't even rev up,don't know if it would win but definitely would help if it had a regular automatic.
I had a Legacy non turbo and it was dangerously slow in the ramps, passing etc. Had to sell it after just 6 months and got me a Stinger GT line. Subaru was great on the snow though
Honda simple just makes the best compact engines and theyre producing better transmissions. The old 2.0 B, K and D series engines were already handling 500hp with custom turbos and that was before 2.0T became mainstream
Not only that, but so easy to untap more power and release the gap sauce. I think dollar for dollar stock and modded, these Hondas can't be beat. A tune and these things are crazy. I love it.
No, it's not. Maybe for 2023, where the 'Sport' gets the 2.4T... but the plain XT Limited and Touring don't get it. And no, it wouldn't have even made a difference. Especially from 0.
i agree with Sam. the legacy engine's good but that cvt is garbage. you can hear the slow fake gear shifts. overall, it performed better than expected cuz that accord wasn't really far off. race it against the tlx 2.0t
Cvts usually have a disadvantage from 0 and advantage once rolling, but since the gt was a cvt awd, the cvt cancelled the awd traction advantage from 0mph start.
@@wbwayne8887 BRZ great car I’ll give you that, but their new wrx and sti (or lack thereof) is not a very good sign, and having owned a 17 wrx in the past i feel like the cars are under built
I'm curious as to which of these would do better on an autocross track. I'm actually kinda surprised though the legacy was alittle more competitive than I thought. Those Accord 2.0 T's are fast.
Honda really made something special wit the 2.0t. Its platforms lik this tht need to b taken serious and taken into account for when its time to make the next generation. Honda/Acura needs to start letting their hair down. They add a few more goodies to the next accord wit this same setup and it will b amazing.
My 2018 Accord 1.5T just had a fuel injector fail at 58k error code P0172 (posted on my channel). Modern Honda look amazing but once the 3yr/36k warranty expires you're on your own and you have no idea how expensive modern Honda engines are to fix. Oil changed at 80%, Shell regular used 80% of the time, always did warm up the car in the winter. Dealer so out of touch they recommended brake fluid replacement at 30k. I've never seen this part fail in ANY of my past cars. When asked why the injector failed so early Dealer said they see them all the time and cost of replacement is $1600-$2500 (must replace all 4) and the new injectors warranty is only for 12k/12mos! I was in love and bought the 1st Accord on the lot with series ending in -0001 but when I made a case with Honda to see if it could be part of a bad batch all I got was the VM of the case manager for weeks on end. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice...
Try not to feel bad, all Honda products have some kinda performance aspect to it...it may not be in the way you may want it out the box but it's there. Steel wheels ain't a disadvantage, it may not look like much but boi the difference...what u need to do is get one accord with rims and the other on steels and see what it do .
I just bought the 2021 legacy touring XT, love it, I'm not about speed , I love the interior, very neat, comfortability and all the other options that car comes with, to many to list
Subaru finally fixes the engine problems but gets rid of the manual option, I loved my old lgt. I don't hate cvts but this one isn't right yet and the fake steps are unnecessary and slow the car down if they just let it do what it should you wouldn't lose boost on shifts and it would keep a steady power band.
Would really like to see the Accord VS the Elantra N. Now that would be phenomenal! In that case, the Elantra packs more power and a lighter weight. Another good one would be the Elantra N VS the Fusion Sport. Or better yet the Fusion Sport VS the Kia Stinger GT or G70. Those racing matchups would take the cake!
