After not being able to travel last year due to the pandemic, we are back with our annual family road trip. And this year we go back to Norway, our favourite destination (although Croatia is a a very close second).
In this first part we cover vast distances at the start of our journey, with high speed driving on the Autobahn, some interesting statistics for long distance travel and our first adventure on Norwegian soil.

13:42 : Tronåsen (The Throne Hill) is the old main road between Stavanger and Oslo. There are remains of the road from pre-historic time, but the current road there started construction in the late 1700s, and was completed in 1844. The road was used as the main road until 1945. The max incline is 1:3 (33%) and the bridge at the oldest suspension bridge in Norway. This road was BTW a part of the Monte-Carlo race in 1931.

Strange that you don't get the low power message... Bug? I get it in my model 3, for example that I have to drive slower than 130km/h to reach the next charger.

Nice video - looking forward to part 2! By the way, why couldn't you travel last year due to the pandemic? Last year during last two weeks of August I made with my family (wife, 13 year old daughter and myself) a similar-ish trip to Norway in our Tesla Model 3. Started in the Netherlands (near Rotterdam) going to a hotel very near (of maybe even the same?) you stayed the first night in Denmark. Next day to Hirtshals for the ferry to Bergen. After two days in Bergen we drove to Sogndal (north of Lærdal) to stay a couple of days to view the fjords etc. Next to Oslo for a few days and after that in three stages - with some sightseeing on the way - through Sweden to Denmark again to the same hotel of our first night. Next day also a visit to Legoland and after that back to home in the Netherlands. Flawless, perfect holiday, excellent weather even. Some Covid-measures at hotels and such but those didn't give us any hindrance.

It were those Covid measures that we didn't want to deal with. Having to go into quarantine afterwards would also not have been fun at all, and would have cost me money as a freelance contractor, not being able to work from home all the time. Technically it was possible, but it wouldn't have been "vacation" at all

@@StevenPeeters - we didn't have to go in any quarantine before or after. The measures were only during the trip like showing our vaccination proof on our phones - for example before boarding the ferry, entering Norway and in some hotels for having breakfast in a buffet restaurant. We all three were fully vaccinated - without that, yes, that would have made it difficult or practically impossible to visit Norway at that time. For me a quarantine would be unacceptable too as one of the owners and managers of an ICT company.

About the seats, are they the same as in the model 3? I would assume so... Sandy Munro really likes them, he even says it's the best seats he ever sat in. I also like them, so do my kids. They even prefer them over my previous BMW.
@StevenPeeters
@StevenPeeters 2 года назад
Have you ever sat in a 2017 Model S? As said, I assime this is partly because of the higher seating position that I don’t like them. But my son was very clear about the lack of comfort 🤷‍♂️
@HotHatchTV

@@StevenPeeters yes, I have driven a model S in the past. Seats were fine for me also. Never driven a model Y before though. I saw in a RU-vid movie that the seats in the mig model Y were different compared to the mic you have. Maybe improvements also. Not that this helps you now...

I was expecting, that you would mention the air suspension. Don't you miss the air suspension with the Model Y on longer trips?
@StevenPeeters
@StevenPeeters 2 года назад
On highways, there is not really that much difference. On the current back roads, it makes a very big difference, of course. I do miss my Model S and somewhat regret not having bought it from the lease company. But I didn't want to risk it, since it was a complete Monday morning car that already had a million issues.

@@StevenPeeters interesting because I had a S75D (air suspension) and just got a Model 3 LR from China and honestly, I find it MORE comfortable than my S that was rather stiff. It surprises me.
@StevenPeeters
@StevenPeeters 2 года назад
@@jeanbaptistelabelle the Y has higher eeight and more body roll so they had to make the suspension a lot harder. 3 might be different indeed
@jeanbaptistelabelle
@jeanbaptistelabelle 2 года назад
@@StevenPeeters do you have a 22 model or from Berlin? I heard that from the China Y and also my brother 3 was stiffer but I am like Bjorn Nyland, I find the 22 Modèle of the 3 transfigured in term of road / wind noise (quieter than my S) and very confortable (more than my S with air suspension) and I heard that the Berlin Y (the Performance for now) is completely different as well in term of comfort...
@StevenPeeters
@StevenPeeters 2 года назад
@@jeanbaptistelabelle Chinese Model Y. Wind noise is a lot less n this one than in the S. The S had little to no sound insulation. Especially around the doors. But that was a 2017 model

Besides, you should leave the Supercharger world. Can tell you, this can be even more exciting than driving to 1%. 🤣
@StevenPeeters
@StevenPeeters 2 года назад
It's becoming real hard to go off-supercharger-grid nowadays. It never scared me at all to do that. I always go where I want to go and charging is just a secondary problem to solve.
@IhsanDogan
@IhsanDogan 2 года назад
@@StevenPeeters I’ve left the Supercharger world already three times this year, but the toughest place so far is northern Greece and Turkey. There really not a lot of fast charging possibilities and sometimes it takes time to get the station work.
