That bit in the middle with Nathan from @TFL was spot on comedy gold. Your on location shoots are next level and I’m looking forward to seeing more of you back out on the road again after such a long hiatus. As a resident (non native) Texan, I’m a Saltlick guy as well and the original in Driftwood is my absolute favorite. As for the Corolla Cross, I predict this will be a good seller for Toyota. However, that CVT, while good for fuel efficiency, is not good around town. An 8 speed automatic would make this a much better vehicle from a driving dynamics standpoint.

I like the concept of the CC. Yes there are tweaks to be had. I for one living in the Los Angeles basin can very rarely get above 65 mph of any sustained length of time. I'm picking up my CC XLE fwd at the end of February after it is built and delivered. It's the new Matrix and it's going to fit right in at the beach.😎

i have the corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 49 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.

I would disagree with getting rid of the e-cvt in an upcoming hybrid. I have driven Toyota hybrids--in particular my mom's Prius C. Certainly that car is slow, which I don't think is the fault of the transmission. It only has 99 hp. It does have some of the rubber band effect on hard acceleration, but that's really not an issue. Usually the only time I'm accelerating hard is going on an expressway and I'm paying far more attention to traffic than the transmission. Once I've merged and am no longer pushing it, the engine and transmission quiet down and it cruises nicely. Obviously, around town the transmission is pretty transparent, because there's no need to accelerate hard in those 25 and 35 mph zones. So, the big question is would I trade the proven reliability of Toyota's hybrid system in exchange for a transmission that operates more "normally" under those few conditions I notice the e-cvt? No! Toyota's hybrid systems are nearly bullet proof, which is just as compelling a feature as a transmission that seems "normal" in those few situations where the engine and transmission noise stand out.

we've had the corolla cross here in Brazil for a few months now and it also comes in hybrid flavours. And it's selling like water in the desert. But the part that boggles the mind: it's absurdly expensive! (for our reality at least)

I have a low mileage 2018 CRV Touring. Yes it is VERY nice but it has a CVT. It took months to get used to the transmission. Off the line it struggles very hard. Past that it is pretty decent. That being said the standard real 1st gear + CVT from Toyota sounds like a near perfect solution to the CVT blues. I am very much considering trading my Touring for the Hybrid or XLE Cross.

@@rightlanehog3151 I don’t know why people thinks Hybrids are more powerful. I have a CHR. But I don’t feel the power like Mazda has. The more I step on the pedal the more I here the engine struggles. They are not really well on steep roads. When you talk of hybrids, dont incude speed/power, in Toyota at least. You can speak highly on MPG, very fuel efficient which I prioritise.

No way. My 2018 2.5i limited Subaru legacy cost me much less and I get 30 mpg combined, 35 mpg highway. Of course it's not a sporty car but I trust Subaru's AWD any day over Toyota's. Of course Subaru's reliability is not like Toyota but unless the Corolla cross comes in a hybrid, not interested

That’s the FWD RAV4 XLE. This Corolla Cross @ $32k is AWD and has more standard equipment which is comparable to AWD RAV4 XLE Premium @ 36k

It’s a tough spot for sure. For 34,040 you can get an xle premium awd with weather package. For the extra 2k it’s hard to justify a loaded Toyota Corolla Cross IMO.

@@moeanthony9308 Hi Moe, Surely you don't believe it costs Toyota more to build a 2.5 Dynamic Force Engine® than a 2.0 Slightly Less Dynamic Force Engine® ? I will argue that the 2.5 will get better mpg on the highway because it will rev at a lower rate. As a matter of opinion, the 219 hp 2.5 AWD Hybrid would be just about the perfect drivetrain for the Cross.

@@moeanthony9308 For the last year I have been calling for the (219 hp) RAV4 Hybrid to offer the upgraded 245* hp Hybrid system from the Highlander and Sienna as they are all built around the 2.5 four cylinder engine. To their credit, Toyota is, at least, offering that upgrade with the new Lexus NX Hybrid. The NX shares the RAV4's platform and will be built in the same Canadian factory. Toyota made a bold move with the Venza and Sienna going 100% Hybrid and the same thing should have happened with this Cross. The only exception might be a manual Cross with AWD and the 203 hp 2.5. ;-)

The Crossolla is perfect size. RAV4 is too expensive and CHR rear door handle is so high small kids can't reach it. The Ivory interior pops in pictures. I wish they used more Ivory. The dark tone looks cheap and hard to find stuff.

Affordability? For $4,000 I bought my 1994 Toyota Camry station wagon with 80,000 miles on it. It's ugly but I get comments on it all the time, and it gets around 30 miles per gallon and will probably last me the rest of my life

Don't know about this one. Appears to be too expensive. 2nd row seats down sit higher than the cargo floor. Hybrid will only add to the bottom line. However, this may not be available until next year? Time will tell.

Considering the low ground clearance of the corolla sedan and it having to plow through 5 inch snowfalls , AWD might benefit that car more than an 8 inch high CC.

Interior space! Toyota interior packaging is simply more spacious. Mazda has poor interior space. If Toyota put a more powerful engine than it would be an easy choice. Look what Subaru did with the Crosstrek - 2.5L in addition to the 2.0L and a good amount of interior space. As it is now all Corollas are moving pylons.

It is a crappy crossover. The base L model doesn't have a rear window wiper. The local Toyota dealer lost a sale from me. Seems like Toyota wants to drive people into the higher trim levels.

you should have stopped by since you drove past my house! very disappointed. thought we meant more to each other! when comparing to the cx30,i wish you would give is a few more numbers as far as cargo, etc. but please...one more important request... when you talk about AWD and the percentage of power sent back, would you PLEASE give us more about the actual performance of the WAD system!? how long does it take for the power transfer? is it a frustrating time lag in the process?????????

Hey MotoMan...This CorollaCross is Simple and Solid...This will indeed sell with Vigor. When the Hybrid makes its appearance it will have crazy mpg hopefully adding with great low-end torque...Problem Solved. a cvt motor w/no power and slow.. DAMN no thx maybe next year when its hybrid and more powerful because toyota's designs have bee atrocious these last few years and the RAV4 is getting uglier every year. SMH what flopp that they keep making my once fave crossover uglier and uglier every. This one looks better, it has a very Mazda x5 or cx 30 look to it hence why its not ugly.

1) it's on the TNGA-C platform. The same as a Toyota Corolla 2) it has the Toyota M20A-FKS engine. Same as a Corolla. 3) The interior is all Corolla. Other than the factory they will share, what exactly is Mazda about it?
