The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross Is A Value Packed AWD Corolla Cross-TREK

The ‪@toyotausa‬ #Corolla is the best-selling nameplate globally. With over 50 million units sold around the world, there's a good chance you owned one or knew someone who drove a Corolla. For 2022, the family expands with the AWD #ToyotaCorollaCross. Unlike the C-HR, the #CorollaCross has a more traditional SUV shape which gives it more space on the inside. #Toyota says the Cross is a direct rival to the Subaru Crosstrek and at a starting price of just over $22,000, it should become one of the best-selling vehicles in the segment.

Good morning everyone! Toyota is clearly going to sell a ton of these. Anyone looking at a Corolla will see this at the dealership for not much more money. It reminds us a lot of the first generation XV Crosstrek nearly 10 years ago. More space, capability, and a higher seating position over the Corolla hatch. No word on when the Hybrid will arrive, but when it does, it should be the same powertrain from the UX 250h.

I'm surprised that the Corolla sedan has 3 inches more rear legroom (35 inches vs 32 inches), superior independent rear suspension in FWD compared to torsion beam suspension in Corolla Cross FWD, is noticeably faster because it's 300 pounds lighter, and is cheaper. I choose the sedan over this Corolla cross.
@dude-yg9ez
@dude-yg9ez 2 года назад
@@braetonwilson4296 well that doesn't really mean it's more comfortable, when your in a crossover/suv, your feet are more stretched out because your higher off the ground vs a sedan where your legs are more upward. So corolla in theory does have more legroom but doesn't necessarily mean it's more comfortable

I don't understand the "slow" critique, these suvs are clearly geared towards practicality, not race car drivers.
@chrisransdell8110
@chrisransdell8110 2 года назад
There are slower and less slow cars in every segment. Would be absurd for it not to be part of a review especially for people who don't test drive a lot of cars and might assume every sub compact SUV is this slow. I've never owned anything remotely sporty but I feel like anything that takes 10 seconds 0-60 tends to feel inadequate for 2 lane road passing etc in a way that most turbo charged vehicles don't.

I will never understand the desire to have soft touch upper dashes in any car and criticism of those that have plastic. Am I lying down on that? Am I EVER touching that? Great review! I was thinking that at the end I would see a link to your revised one, after spending a week with it. There are two comments I have, having seen a trend in these reviews: 1. Most are reviewing the top-of-the-line, which will presumably be the least sold, while the LE FWD will probably be the most sold. And there's a lot of distinction as you know. So my first comment is on the AWD vs FWD: the difference in acceleration is apparently notable. I've seen 0-60 ratings of 8.6 and 8.8 where the tester had a timing device on board. I think I saw one under 10 for the AWD, but maybe that was one of a pair of non-XLE reviews, which may mysteriously also affect get-up-and-go. 2. I was glad that after commenting about no paddles you later mentioned the manual shifting. I am unaware of a difference, with the exception that, anybody who has driven a manual, and likes manual shifting, is accustomed to that right hand shifting below. I mostly drive with only my left arm, and often below in the middle, so those paddles are a deal breaker for me: I don't want 'em! AND, after all my ranting, I'll most likely hold out to see what'up with the hybrid. It will probably price me out, thus giving me the time I'll need to instead pick up a much cheaper 1-year old certified pre-owned from all those people who will dump their original purchase in favor of the hybrid! 😄

Great review as always! I wasn’t surprised when scrolling through the comments and saw several ppl comparing this to the new Civic hatchback. Currently, I’m torn between which one I want and which one I need. For myself, the Civic touring sport hatchback 6MT marks all of the boxes. The ground clearance for the Cross is a bit impressive, but paired with CVT and underwhelming power for an AWD car at 3300lbs, I’ll probably get the new Civic. #savethemanuals

We had a 2017 Honda hrv until it was totaled last Sunday. My wife loved the Honda until the wreck. She is ok, but the car did not hold up to the accident well at all. She said that the hrv is not in her list of cars after the accident, It did not have braking mitigation on that year. Looking at the 22 hrv, not much has changed in 5 years, they do have the braking now. I always felt like the Honda was cheap, very sluggish, leaking rear tailgate, just cheaply made. The cvt was terrible. We are looking at the cross now and the RAV4. Going back to Toyota. Thanks for the video !

LED foglights one of the biggest waste of money ever. No one even KNOWS when to use fog lights, 99.9% of the time they have them on there's ZERO fog, and just blinding everyone.

It will sell like hotcakes because Americans and Canadians are crazy about crossovers/SUVs. You could make a crossover out of literal human feces and still there will be a long line of Americans waiting to buy it. Considering this is slower than the Corolla sedan/hatchback due to weighing several hundred pounds more and has inferior torsion beam suspension, I would rather pay a few grand more and buy a RAV4.

I think they are cashing in on the SUV craze. The Cross LE with destination $26,394, 0-60 10 seconds 25 cu ft. cargo. 2022 Honda Civic LX Hatchback CVT $24,540 with destination 2.0 engine (non-turbo), 0-60 in 8.5 seconds 24.5 cu ft. cargo a lot more rear seat leg room for passengers. I know the hatchback probably doesn't have the same height as the Corolla Cross for tall items, but I am sure a lot more pleasurable to drive and also gets better MPG.

Toyota do have a 1.2 turbo in Japan. Those US executives worries about their pay more then giving what people wants. That's why so many Toyota Camry, Sienna, Highlander, Lexus ES, RX, LX and LS drivers opted for Tesla.

Yet Toyota sales and profits still trumps? Some leave some come back and some are new to Toyota. No big loss.

I think the grille looks like the one on the RAV4, this looks like a baby RAV overall, the Highlander has a more squint like grille.

They should imbed the touch screen in the dash rather then have it look like an after thought sticking up which many automakers are doing.

No doubt Toyota will sell a lot of these Corolla Cross, and likely will steal sales from the CH-R. While Toyota is keeping the CH-R for now, I wonder if Toyota will eventually axe it, or keep it around as a "niche" entry level model?

Should put the 2.5L from the Camry into the Corolla X. The 2.5 Crosstrek is so much better to drive vs the 2.0 when I go up hills or overtake.

People love Corollas but hate the small size so to get it in a crossover format it’s a home run. Honda will do the same with their civic and introduce another crossover to compete. 🤣Perfect first car for your high school teen or college student. Or for a new mom because it has everything you need and nothing you don’t need. Ha!
