A very, very good balanced review Tish. With only a short time with the car you have managed to include all the important bits. The softer look from the video views gives a slight impression that the Polo has grown up at the experience of arguably looking slightly more bland. Colour wise I think it looks great in red. It's arguably one the more sensible and practical cars in its class. Oh and I prefer a physical key but I'm also OK with keyless entry and start but it would have to have an ability to disable the start part.

A lot of info gleaned in 35 mins.!! Well done Tish.! I personally prefer the physical key. I recently went keyless in the the Macda 3 and am nnot convinced it is an improvement.

I ordered mine a few months back now, being built at the start of June can't wait for it!

The 7-speed DCT is actually faster in 0-62 and is extremely quick to shift.

Physical key for me! Good review Tish. Love the GTi tartan but where's the golf ball gear knob!? Polo is really the Golf and for me is the right size (Golf now too big). Incidentally, is that ride and drive event still held at Millbrook? Many 'happy(?)' memories of trying to drive development cars around the Millbrook bowl fighting for space with all of the day trippers!😂

I used to be a photographer and have this small bag for putting rolls of flim in, to protect them from the x-rays when you go through the airport. I store my keyless entry car keys in there. Pro tip :0) Nice review btw and I totally agree. I somehow feel I want VW to throw more money at this thing while at the same time, as you say, it's become too grown up. Just goes to show Toyota really got the balance of so many things right with their GR Yaris...

In South Africa is available with a keyless option which i personally prefer

We tried one a few years ago but went for the Mini Cooper S because you could have a manual and the car was just much more fun.

I'm old skool...physical key please...yes I like the previous gen. boxy shape and not ott touch screen or touch buttons...

Having to use a key to open or start a car is so 20th century. I much prefer keyless, keys can stay in my pocket from when I leave home and lock the house door. It's a shame that the Polo, even after a facelift, looks so similar to the previous generation one, and that VW have done away with the standard spare wheel apart from, it seems, this top-of-the-range model.... and the GTI is so expensive. BTW in the past few weeks, 3 different Hyundai dealers have quoted me at least 4 months wait for an i20, and VW dealers at least 30 weeks for a Polo. Good job I don't actually need to change my car at the moment !

Ignition key.. yes please, manual handbrake, no... with an auto box it should be a digital handbrake. I have an Up Gti..... Tungsten Silver with black roof..... brilliant fun for the money.

The best feature of this vs the pre-facelift is wireless carplay. That’s about it.

As a daily I think it's a great buy but as a fun hatch the ST / i20N seem to be in a league of there own. Great review especially given the short time you were allowed with the car! Fun is key in this segment for me and I am with you about the up GTI also 👍

5 doors and an auto box and they call that a hot hatch? As with most other manufacturers they no longer do a 3 door version so that instantly knocks it off my list.. i will be keeping my Abarth.

I love the Polo GTi. However, I would rather have a Hyundai i20N, cos it’s slightly cheaper to buy, has a 6MT and is lighter.

This review is miles off the mark! Absolutely miles off…..If you want a noisy spitty exhaust and aggressive driving supermini then don’t even consider any of the VW GTi range. Buy a Fiesta ST or I20N or Fiat 500 Abarth, and crack on down the road making silly noises in it, bouncing down pot holes and having to drop to 3mph to get over a speed ramp. If you want to just get in, and drive without those issues…….buy a Polo GTi. This Polo GTi is a thinking man/woman’s hot hatch. It’s built within the usual GTi theme of quiet, understated, sensible, drivable, grown up quick cars! As for the gearbox not being quick enough……dross! It’s DSG, it’s already selected it’s next gear before changing. It’s seamless. No manual box will change quicker. Just stick it in manual and use the paddles if you crave a manual box! We owned a 2019 Polo GTi. Just swapped it for a face lifted 2022 model. Only lost 15%. So we had bulletproof resale figures, great car, never let us down, fun, fast, economic and loved owning it. The new one is with a beats stereo, 18” alloys and finished in Smokey Grey. Loving it already. It was the first to arrive in the UK in that colour and spec….Has a 7 speed DSG now, so seems more refined as changes gear slightly earlier in the rev range than the last one. My only negative is we’ve now had the keyless/start stop taken off the new model as it was a theft risk. Was on the old model and we liked the convenience. Other than that……great car, great fun, sensible, grown up, reliable, safe and quality throughout. Go buy one……

It might be a decent car overall, but VW will probably never gain me as customer. Their design and general company philosophy is just not for me.

9:47 no thanks 😂 The UP GTI is seriously underpowered and doesn’t have enough equipment as the other VW cars or its rivals like the Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i10 or the Kia Picanto

Don't see the point of keyless, technology for technology's stake and a bigger security risk. Touch screen for climate is awful... I'm not sure about the wheels.... The seats need to be brighter... I prefer it to the Golf, even though it looks too much like a Golf. Too sensible for a hot hatch, if I have another small hatch, I'd have another Abarth, flawed but fun. £28K for a Polo!

2.0 litre engine isn’t good for a car this day and age

Manual handbrake with an automatic gearbox doesn't really make sense. Touch sensitive climate control no thanks. Old fashioned remote key fob, things have moved on & relay theft resistant keyless fobs have been available from other manufacturers for a few years. That sat nav looks dead slow.

Quit the accent and speak properly 🙄
