Chris can't fly due to an FTR ear injury, so Chad headed out to Spain for the launch of the new Yamaha MT-10. Lots of wheelies and burnouts! #mt10 #newbike #yamahamt10
Nicely done Chad. Some good upgrades I suppose it's a lot more attractive for a new buyer. You get a lot of things and the price is right. Whether it's attractive for last-gen owners to upgrade, I'm doubting.
What about a touring edition? If I were to upgrade my 2020 model, would I be able to fit my Hepco pannier brackets? There's no way I would upgrade and have to junk my existing panniers and sport-rack with tail bag. I'd either keep the bike and spend a lot less on a suspension upgrade, or simply change brands - SDR for instance.
@@GordonFreeman. I agree especially for a daily. For all out power it may be fun. I had a B King back in the day and can appreciate something with bonkers amount of power haha
@@ColonelMustard I rode an mt10 for a while and maybe I just have poor discipline, but that thing was always two throttle twists away from a disaster. Same goes for the super duke. But they are fun, no doubt there.
I'm like some folks, I'd like an XSR1 (or XSR1000, whatever they would want to call it). But I will say it's less ugly than before. Glad they addressed fuel economy at least somewhat. Will have to see what real world gets. I had a '11 FZ1 fully un-corked with 150 whp peak, it got 37 mpg (US) just about no matter what, also had a 4.75 gal tank.
De cat link pipe and flash and my '18 mt10 gets about 25mpg. That's making huge pulls, riding it hard! Considering I got it about 4 months ago with 1100 miles on it for $9,800, I'd consider that pretty good. That extra money I saved buys plenty of premium.
I'd have found it more useful, if you'd have talked about some of the items I have on my 2018 MT10. !/ Does it have a comfort seat? 2/ Can you get the screen? 3/ Can you get the hand guard/protectors? 4/ Does it come with a guard for the radiators(oil and coolant)? Can any of these items be transferred from my 2018 MT10 to a 2022 MT10?
I'm waiting for a YZF-R9 or R10 with ˜100-150 bhp and sporty but not racing ergonomics. Also Yamaha - if building such a machine try to remember that you have potential customers that stand over 6 feet tall and would like to ride said machine for durations over 45 minutes
I was in a conversation with some Yamaha guys, and they told me that Yamaha is not planing to bring the R9 yet, or even at all... Yamaha mechanics, developers and other staff usually have to study the upcoming models to better deal with them, and for 2022 and 2023 there is no R9 on their studies (I don't really know how to explain the "studies" but they have to basically introduce themselves to new bike models so they can sell them, repair them, know how they work, build them, etc etc etc). But basically their explanation is, "the current motorcycle market is focused on Tracers 700/900 and the Tenere, being R's a very small market not worthy to invest at the moment". They do have the R9 patent, but no intention to build it anytime soon. (Sorry for any bad English).
Its nice, but as an owner of the previous model I don't see enough to make me change. I don't use the electronic options I already have so don't see me wanting more. Styling has to move on and this is OK but not an improvement in my current owner's opinion. Be interesting to see what supply of new MT10s to dealers will be like. The couple I've spoken to won't get as much stock as they want.
Like what they have done and good review. I think its good you cant turn TC off whilst riding. Imagine accidentally turning it off whilst riding and throwing yourself in the bushes.
I just did the 600 mile break in oil change. I love this bike. My first mod will be a new seat. Yamaha makes a comfort seat for it but you can't find one anywhere. I'm getting a Sargent seat. Later, I might get the mid pipe and computer flash done so I can hear more CP4 music.
@@agentmartagentmart9122 the best thing about the mt10’s look was that it looked muscular but the new one looks weedy to me. Each to there own but I think it might be the ugliest bike out there atm.
@@cornish_boy6235 lmao i traded my 2020 for it it looks way bigger in flesh than the gen1 . See it for urself then u can say that again. The headlight isnt as good i agree but the rest phew its a win from me
@@agentmartagentmart9122 it looks unfinished lol or someone removed it's face from the nose down. Hopefully Gen3 does better and makes me switch from my Gen 1
I am still breaking in, in the 600-1,000 mile 2nd half of the break in. According the computer, I'm getting 32 MPG (US gallons), while essentially staying below 7,100 RPM as directed in the owner's manual. I got about 35 for the first part of the break in staying below 5,900 RPM. So on track I would expect maybe mid-twenties, and probably high 20s to low 30s once broken in and "driven normally". That said, I generally don't ride highways Iike a commuter might, or putter around town... I ride for fun on back roads.
I don’t ever do burn outs just because I’d rather use my tread either cornering or practicing wheelies. But if buying tires isn’t an issue smoke em if you got ‘em I suppose
Tbh I really don't feel anything for the 6 axis IMU and all the other fancy stuff.... Haven't missed it at all. Its almost 2024 and I still LOVE my 2017 MT-10 SP! Tip for Gen1 riders: Buy an Gen2 comfort seat! It fits the Gen 1 perfectly (yes I know they tell you it doesn't and I don't know why either), looks great and is more comfortable than the original seat.
@@hendrxx_ Spending that sort of money on a bike it has to look good as well. This bike divides opinion. The new one is better, but it still ain't a looker. Shame Yamaha don't produce an XSR 1000 with more traditional styling for us oldies. I think they are missing a trick here.
It’s a weird thing these Yamaha Ergonomics. I’m 50 and stand 6’ tall. The MT-09 fits horrible, the MT-10 fits pretty well but the MT-07 is one of the best fitting most comfortable bikes for me. It makes me wonder what Yamaha is trying to do with these ergos. Regardless, Yamaha makes superb machines.
Loved my previous gen. Not a huge fan of the new front end. They could have rounded the headlights or something.. but I wanted more hp. So it would be on par with the other bikes.
It's only a 5hp difference... You can get more than that with a basic tune. I have a 2020 with decat and tune and I don't think I'll sell it anytime soon, it's just too good!
You can ride exactly like that today because you'll never know it is there. Except now you don't have to wash out the front end in a panic stop and you don't have to high-side and break your neck because you goosed the throttle a bit much on corner exit.
Sure you can turn all this electronic nannying off but the point for me is I don't want or need it AND most crucially it's making bikes very expensive and out of reach for a lot of potential owners. If a 1000cc bike is too much to handle without electronics then pick something smaller!
Just looks like a parts bin bike thrown together, I mean just look at the cables strapped to the forks, oh hold on put a sticker underneath so they don't rub though the paint, oh wait we need a horn, stick that underneath the forks to,
I can't say I've ever thought my MT10SP needed more electronics. What is this obsession now days with so many electronics? Half the time I switch them off completely or dial them way way back. There is alot to be said for "just going for a ride" Oh and one last thing. Wheelie control should be banned. That's like an anti fun valve. Sounds like something Honda would do. ✊🤨
I appreciate the safety of electronics. Wheelie control that allows a decent wheelie but no more is also good for a numpty like me. Having said that, I'm happy with my ZX6R with basic TC.
Still makes me laugh how journalists do that tucked in riding stance for the rolling shots when they are going about 40mph... just ride it naturally! 😄
@@BikeWorldTVshow not a bad things guys, just some constructive criticism, camera work was fantastic and the review, also a fast turn around for a video from filing over the last couple days 😄
Ha Ha , Despite World records, podiums, top 10 TT finishes and over 20 years experience as a road tester, Chad still gets his riding technique criticised by someone who’s just passed his test!
13k, 🤔 Despite the fact that the world is in a downturn and that they've been building these bikes forever... You'd think the original r&d would have been long bring paid up. It I was going in at 13k, I'd have to pass for a Tuono.
@@noahlul698 They're good bikes, but they never get any cheaper. 16,000 is what I can get an R1 for here in the states, but I do like these bikes. It's far too close in price without having the same engine and another mapping done to it.
Absolutely love the looks of the previous generation. I would still go for the SP on the newer generation due to the electronics and suspension, even though I like the old generation's looks more
@@ThatCleanMT if I can afford a 2021 MT10, I can also buy the 2022... It's almost the same price, brand new, in my country it's a 500 or 600€ difference. Mine a 2021, and I won't change it because it looks much better and I don't think the change is worth it honestly... Does the new MT10 has better electronics? Absolutely. Do I always ride with TCS off? Yep.
ISSUES: 1) There is ZERO internal carrying capacity, not even for a basic toolkit, (which they don't provide). 2) Not a fan of Toilet-Bowl Green, myself. 3) That NOSE has got to go.
It's less ugly than before, thankfully. Also they have addressed fuel economy at least somewhat. It reminds me some of one of the Speed Triple's of yore, with the floating headlight pod.
@@exothermal.sprocket fuel economy yea the bikes running so lean that half the power restricted. but hey thats a big deal to some people take a powerful and good running engine and kill it with emmissions people can fix that problem though
@@kevincraig8257 They MIGHT have done that, but you have no proof that's what they've done. We'll have to wait and see. I've noticed all un-even firing 4cylinder engines (crossplane or V4) out there suck fuel a lot faster than the even-firing 4 cylinder engines.
Great review! However the bike is ugly As F.. I certainly prefer the looks of the first gen. Who cares about additional electronics and the suffocated Euro5 engine.
