Sorry, but I've had my MT10 for nearly 5 years now and I disagree with many of your conclusions, having had an hour and a half on the new model. Whereas the old bike has the best sound, that I've ever experienced in 56 years of riding (going from an A65 on twin Goldie exhausts, through CBX ^s with 6 into 1, and 6 into 6) and many many others, but they have spoilt the sound of this new bike and the bike also looks too bland, when you look at it from either side. Missed opportunity Yamaha, so I'm keeping mine and I'm utterly besotted by this bike(which has the essential 'Comfort seat').
Set of Brembo pads on the front and the feel is well good! Yes I'm convinced, I'm getting a new one to run with my 2016. Fabulous bike and I'm 72 years old!
Snatchy throttle on/off is the same story for any motorcycle these days: injection fuel cut in throttle-closed condition. Reapply throttle and injectors start spraying again, but a slight delay from a dry intake sends a cascade of torque through the drive train to the rubber. Do this on/off mid corner and you'll be frustrated. Emissions regs demand injectors be shut off when the throttle is closed. ECU flash fixes this, keeps injectors active when the throttle is closed and provides throttle control more akin to a finely tuned carburetor.
Loved my MT10, with a few cheap mods (remap, proper pads, braided lines) it was the perfect bike. Not a fan of the new styling and colour schemes though, it somehow looks older than the last gen.
Idk what happened with the design department at Yamaha but literally every MT bike looks significantly worse in 2022. They literally all look older and less sleek/angular.
I liked the styling of the old MT10, but this one I don't like the styling at all. It lost all of its 'sharpness' so to say. Colors are mint though (literally).
Style is very personal. Performance, features and reliability on this bike are tops. When I first saw the MT10 I told the sales guy that I didn't like the looks. Now I own one.
Fantastic review! I love that you incorporate questions from real owners of the previous gen bike into these videos. I don't mind the looks of the gen 1 MT, but these new ones look really bad... Would it stop me from owning one? I'm not sure... There's no real alternative at this price except the GSX1000 which does look better but is outclassed in every other way...
Great video, i realy love the new looks of the mt 10, ordered last november my sp version can't wait 🥰 ( gonne be my first mt 10 ) but test rode the old one couple of times, the sound of that crossplane crank its yust epic 😍🔥🔥
I was the same with the first Mt 10. I didnt like it when it came out. I thought it was ugly. Then I ended up buying one, and I thought it looks like a muscle bike aggressive and super cool.
That stand-still-to-switch BS is there on the previous model, too. As on owner of an SP I can confirm it's oine of the most annoying and unnecessary mishaps of an otherwise near perfect bike. You turn from a good tarmac to a side road (because that's where your route leads ffs!) but you cant change your suspension settings without stopping. Now you say OK, stop then! But you are a group lead, you stop everybody stops (and laughs). No problem on Super Tenere for example, why on MT10? Same when it rains or you just run on a piece of wet tarmac, you'd just flick it to D and continue to safety uninterrupted, but no! You need to stop first switch, go again, then when conditions change, do the same again. Really annoying and not necessarily safe, especially when you need to stop on the side of the road in rain.
I have a 2018 MT10 and I have had a ride on the new model they have taken away that glorious sound and replaced it with loads of induction noise. Didn't like the dash, as the digits are too small. The throttle just didn't feel as good as the old model. To my mind, they have also spoilt the looks. Just my view, obviously.
I had a ‘20 and loved pretty much everything about it. Had to give it up because of my mainly city/traffic riding. Didn’t see the point in some of these changes. Others seemed to be obvious evolutions in terms of safety and technology. 🤔
Great chemistry between the two of you makes for fun viewing even though the bike is not for me. What would be for me is this bike in a sport touring version; will we ever see that? PS: I always like the behind the scenes shots
Does the new MT 10 really have a better pull than the previous model? I can't really believe it... Thanks for your answer here und thanks for this good video❣️Greetings from Germany👍🏻
I haven't been able to ride them back to back, but based on memory I think so, a smidge. It made me realise how much better the midrange is than my own S1000XR. Cheers, John
As a fan of the old one, I like these updates to the new one so much so that I'd consider selling my current naked and getting the base of the SP model. Thanks for sharing that camera vehicle footage at the end.
Did riding the new MT10 bring on regret about selling your original MT10 John? I've still got mine, soon be 6 years. Still love it, still reliable. In side profile with that huge massive cat underneath, the new bike just doesn't look as good as the old. I would take the slightly improved mpg but none of the other changes impress me. One tooth down on the back and nose down take the bike back more towards the R1 and for me it's not the way I would want to go. Thanks for the enjoyable vid. Cheers
Have had a ride on one yet Richard? I'm still waiting for my dealer, to give me a call for a go on his Demo. bike. Side on, I don't think I like the look as much as the old one. I'll reserve my full judgement until I've had a go on one! Congrats on your 3k+ .
@@RichardASK Cheers Richard. I will get a demo on one, I still prefer this bike to any of the other new offerings. So far I've had a disappointing response from the dealer I tried, didn't want to even take my number to let me know when a demo came in. Going to try my original suppling dealer who sold me my current bike and XSR900. Trouble is I think they think demand is going to outstrip bikes supply. Do you think you might upgrade?
@@Banditmanuk I pick my new mt10 up next week. I only went to have my tracer 900 gt serviced & when I came back they had just been delivered. Silly me, I pay for a service then trade my bike in Doh.
@@marksimpson5218 You will love the bike Mark. I've been across Europe on mine. Was considering a move the other way but no doubt the MT10 is addictive. Only downside is thirst and range. Have fun
I love the new one 🙏 traded my 2020 mt 10 for it and dont regret it. It felt so outdated with its 0 electronics. And when i saw the mt10 22 in flesh i knew it is my next bike 🙋♂️
0 electronics. So it was a diesel without an alternator? With kick start? And how does electronics provide an actual riding experience? If you knew they were always there, it would be obnoxious nannies spoiling the fun.
@@exothermal.sprocket it was outdated FOR ME. Its all about preferences i always want the latest TECH on my bike. So i traded my old mt 10 for the new one. If u like the old one keep it its ur choice ur bike
Still tryna decide between a 2016 Tuono V4 Factory or a 2017 Mt-10 🥲, both sound good of course I just feel like the Yamaha is better on service intervals
Test ride both. I did not find the Tuono to be very comfortable. It has a more aggressive seating position (bent over, knees tucked, etc) which got tiring on my knees, back, and wrist. And the electronics were a bit fiddly to live with on a day-to-day basis. Example: when you use cruise control and want to adjust your speed in small increments, it lurches forward like a beginner rider with whiskey throttle rather than smoothly adding power. The handlebars are also a little vibey at highway speeds. I rode it for ~100 miles and was pretty dang tired. That being said, the fit/finish, sound, and handling were phenomenal! I then test rode the MT10 and it was a night and day difference in the comfort department. More than enough performance for an average rider like myself, but miles ahead in comfort, reliability, cost of ownership, parts, etc. The inline 4 engine is butter smooth on the long highway rides, the seating position is great, cruise control is more refined, and the power/handling are spot on as well. Doesn't sound as nice as the Tuono but the crossplane engine is a special one nonetheless. I can easily put triple the miles on the MT and be less fatigued than riding the Tuono.
@@FadilKarim I did test ride both and matter of fact I took the MT-10 home a couple of nights because I was so in love with it lol, the major major plus for me was the “Hazard Lights Button” on the right switch gear for lane splitting to work 👌🏾, and the power was more than enough (literally 20 hp more than my aprilia I have now), but for the aprilia (I work at a Ktm/aprilia dealership) parts and servicing wouldn’t be too bad for me it’s just the thought of anything going wrong on the aprilia and the huge wait for parts from Italy that’s puts me off from getting it…, the seating position was a little awkward being a naked but felt like I was riding a RSV4 with a bar on it lol and the pressure on my hands would hurt after a 1hr trip or more but that’s an easy fix with some rizoma bars 🤷🏾♂️ but the looks I was getting from everybody was insane on the tuono factory I never seen so many people break there neck and just stop in Awwww🤩 but tbh the CP4 engine is just as nice and the MT-10 looks more crazy than the aprilia 😉
@@NudaMan Congrats on the new bike! Hope you enjoy it! Sounds like your test ride experience was similar to mine. If you want more power, you can always get a 2WDW flash and that'll really wake up the MT and make the throttle roll on buttery smooth.
Very nice review chaps, best one I've seen so far. I like this new MT10 a lot. Not sure about the looks but it's not bad & I'm sure I could live with it. It'd definitely be right up there if I was after a super naked as it seems like a great all-round road bike at a decent price. Just don't want or need anything more powerful or expensive than this & it's got loads of character too.
My 2016 bike has never made it to 120 miles before the fuel light. Normally 100 to 110. Completely out by 125 miles. Ouch indeed but still an amazing bike.
@@Banditmanuk Think I want 250 as a min but then am used to 300 on my 125 so am biased! Thats why am prob going for something like an Interceptor or Honda CB 500x. My insurance for an MT 10 prob ridiculous anyways...and dont think would be wise until get another few years riding experience (for the top end) Something around 40bhp would do me.
Fellas, you keep saying if you ride off in D mode and you want more power you have to stop to change mode. That’s incorrect because If you want more power, just change the PWR mode which can be changed on the fly. A B C D modes are just preset groupings which can ALL be individually modified to suit your style. The only things you can’t change on the fly are LIFT and the engine brake and ABS mode…. And quick shifter. If you spread misinformation…… you might dissuade someone buying a bike. There are 5 TC levels, not 3.
NOT LIKE anything about the "old" MT-10? How is that even possible? Okay, maybe range, i won`t say fuel consumption because this engine deserves whatever it wants. And slightly wooden brakes. Not BAD, but abit... numb. GOD i love my 2017 MT-10
Are you talking about this video, and commenting on a different one? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m85GiaJnMNg.html Might be that the video finished and this one about the MT-10 has started playing since.
what is the concept of the "Naked Bike" is it esentially a fairing-less sport bike? Showing every nut bolt is desirable to some what are the true advantages of the Naked Bike
Though I much appreciate most of your presentation, I would like to comment on some point which I think you were biased towards European brands. Change modes (4:40 minute). You said it, on any of the 4 modes you can change, Power, TC and SC. You pretend that you were opening the throttle and the bike didn't move. in addition you emphasise that other European bikes could do it. You could easily change power mode on the fly and try any of the 4 power modes. Simple. Brakes (7:25-9:34) everybody, not just you, avoid to say how hard are the Brembo brakes on every day use with their on-off braking state. Japanese bikes are a little spongy because they are design for road use mostly and not Track days. MT-10 is an occasional (as all other necked bikes) race track bike. I personally prefer a nice every day bike with excellent brakes than the on-off track focused Ducati street fighter or Tuono Factory. In case you ask, yes I ridden both Tuono and street fighter. Power, The answer is simple. 150hp is more than enough for very fast road ride. Best example is Ducati Panicale. They recommend for street ride, mode 4, 150hp output power. Same like Yamaha power mode 2, Aprilia Tuono, BMW and so on... You said it too, power mode 1 (full power) is unusable even for the track, for the average rider. Same apply to Ducati, BMW or Aprilia. Sorry for the grammar, I am not english.
@@bentalbottalbot think the Suzuki looks nicer mate. Not a fan of the yam looks. Personally think it’s trying to look like the street with the front end and not a fan of that as well mate
I just bought a 2023 mt09sp and the mt 10 is not a bike for me. Buuut that motor just sounds soo good! Man it just goes in your blood and get you adrenaline going 😛
It's a massive conspiracy - we're all paid millions by Yamaha and Suzuki to never bring the two bikes together. That or it'd be like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters. I'm never sure.
@@bennettsbikesocial hahahahaha, I'm loving the sarcasm. It's just a general observation on RU-vid, no comparisons available. I'll be test riding them both this year if the 'crimson sun' doesn't take us all out....

We're all playing the same game... Doesn't matter what you ride, it's a stupid and dangerous hobby. No seatbelt, no airbag, no crumple zone just a fleshy human sat on a machine being propelled to superhuman speeds.
Great review...as always! I didn't like the bike....till I tried it!! Love at first sight!!! PS : Still pissed that Yamaha raised the price by €600 within 3 months!!
It’s growing on me a little. I hated it initially. Watched 5 videos today and it’s not so bad now. But it’s weird. I think it’s a very ‘Asian’ scheme imo
I just think they've ruined the look. Instead of looking like a mechanical monster, it now looks like an angry Japanese man. Not quite my preferred image. Looking for an old one...
7:00 look at that bike, its just not pretty is it? Lines all over the place, strange selection of colours (shades of grey, then some blue and red bits), engine bay and near the rear sets very messy.. What were they thinking.
I have the old model MT10 and on a run get well over 40mpg. Riding in town and below top gear kills it though and it drops to the 30s. Long run at the speed limit, 47mpg easy. Those guys getting 30 mpg must be wheelying all the time.
It is the ABS intrusion into the braking feel that is the difference i believe by watching many many other reviews from the likes of 44 teeth and many others!
what i don't like about the new mt10, its uglier than before. what i like about the new mt10, its uglier than before. i have a 2021 mt10. i dont think ill switch for the new one. maybe in a few years if new colors and maybe a bit more power version comes.
So Yamaha wants their 3 and 4 cylinders motorcycles to sound and behave like twins (cp3 and cp4 engines) but not actually be twins?!? I thought twins were agricultural and unrefined. It is hard to keep track of what is a pro and what is a con. I ’m glad I’m not new rider because I’d just be confused and move on to something else😅
I've managed to use a motorised boom and a high end drone/dslr for those shots without hanging off the car :))...... But I guess the photographer is an adrenaline junkie too :))
Ugly is what it is. Don't get it, that engine is an absolute banger but what the hell did they do to the rest. Imagine that engine in a bike with the looks to match.
It's a strange philosophy from Yamaha. The MT range is deliberately styled like this to get people talking. Even Yamaha admit they are not good looking bikes. Just wish they produced an XSR1000 with more classic styling.
8:47 These guys have no idea, replace the standard pads and the feel as good as the brembos! maybe they need to higher younger people to do these reviews
@@bennettsbikesocial my fault, not changing up firmly enough while under hard acceleration. Happened a few times. Had it for 4.5 years though so was considering a new bike anyway.
