In early December 2023, Brain Support Network (brainsupportnetwork.org) and Stanford Parkinson’s Community Outreach (med.stanford.edu/parkinsons) co-hosted a discussion with caregivers who shared the top three things they have learned about caregiving. Caregivers offered advice to each other, including advice caregivers wished they could tell their younger selves.
Participants in this discussion were members of local San Francisco Bay Area caregiver support groups. They are caring for those with Lewy body dementia, Parkinson's disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, and corticobasal degeneration.
The advice shared included how to maintain a healthy relationship with your loved one, how to find help as a caregiver, what you can expect from friends and family, planning for later stages, and more.
See our blog post with an insightful summary of the advice and a link to the document that the discussion moderators created.
