You said the ranger didn't walk away with it. You then went on to say it was unanimous, the ranger most advanced safety features, most comfortable, best on tarmac or off road... "has reset the benchmark". In other words, the Ranger did walk away with it?

i also saw this attitude on the car expert channel. they literally said that the ford ranger would be setting the benchmark for all the other utes they would be testing and went with it first for testing, however some of the utes outperformed the ford ranger in almost every category. these types of biases aren't acceptable and present a false sense of reliability. car testing should be fair across the board and not based on any judges personal bias

The presenter in another comparison video said it best. When comparing 2024 utes in 2024, they ranked the ranger and the amarok as 1 and 2. But if this was a comparison of the same utes at 200k mileage, he would bet his money on the hilux, dmax or bt50 as their top 3.

If the biggest differentiator for Ford is on-road dynamics, then what about - Braking performance: lowest among the group - Body Roll/Slalom/Lane change manuever: probably tie (quantitave numbers not provided) Also ford comes with an electrical park brake, what if on a steep incline, electrical system malfunctioned. Ditto for the instrument display, a single electrical/display failure can deprive driver of all information (i understand that even modern analogue instrumentation is also electrical in the back end, still it has less point of failures). That said, ford ranger is still an impressive vehicle.

No doubt about the Ranger's capability and now, the added reliability factor. But Toyota is still killing it, they don’t have to hire 'experts' to prove their worth, which is already established strong. And they are utilising this (marketing) budget in to other important matters😂😂😂

Toyota should not even get a look in, toyota do nothing to develop any vehicle segment, no development in safety technology or vehicle standards. Pay large amounts to media organisations to keep a really unsafe dated vehicle in front of mind of the fools thinking that it’s reliable, if you can’t even upgrade the airbox to a cartridge type and stop dust getting in should tell the fools yet it doesn’t. The Dmax and Bt50 have the best structural design of them all with the introduction of Boron alloy in the roof structure a 107 percent increase in the strength over the last design, toyota in a roll over is appalling the roof comes down onto the seats.

The problem I have with these reviews is that they are all "best case, right now new vehicle" where what most buyers want to know is "will this thing Sh#* itself on me and be a nightmare 2yrs down the track" - these are unknowns and for the brave people that buy the Ranger, especially the V6 - I salute you, for you are the guinea pigs that paid circa $80K for the privilege. I find myself in the market for a dual cab ute presently and am leaning toward the BT-50, because it's a tested and proven platform that isn't subject to the anecdotally sh*** Isuzu customer service experience and has a better warranty. Toyota are lost in their own pipe dream from the last 20yrs and the value proposition and lead times to actual delivery are just ridiculous. I will not pay 16-20K more for a Ford that has a 10spd transmission, a variant of which is currently the subject of a class action in the US and a V6 engine that is an evolution of one that had a habit of snapping cranks because the journals were narrowed to shorten the overall length of the engine. Another RU-vid 4x4 channel recently got one and drove it up a beach in WA unladen and almost overheated the auto box - food for thought. At the end of the day the safety and driver features are pretty much meaningless to me apart from airbags and adaptive cruise. The only reason any of these vehicles have a 5 star ANCAP is because of these add ons, the vehicles themselves otherwise would only get 3.5 to 4 stars because they are a ladder chassis and there is only so much you can do with that - or just not carry loads or go off road. My biggest tick boxes are reliability, value, rear diff lock and GVM. Everything else is noise in a segment that just wants to get the job done.

is there anything wrong with the hilux itself? or is the only issue with it that toyota has built such a big reputation for their hilux over the years that people are holding them to a much higher level of standard when compared to other utes? genuine question, was really keen to get a hilux (mostly for reliability & resale) but have also been told new BT50’s are great.
