In this video we will check out the new 2023 Chevy Colorado and all of its 5 trim levels. We will talk, work truck, LT, Trail Boss, Z71 and ZR2. Is it enough or did Chevy miss the mark like they did with the Silverado ZR2?
Love your content man here in Florida the 2023 baselines just hit the dealerships here I heard the ZR2 won't come out until July I love my 19 and I did a lot of work to it but hell yeah I get the new one as soon as the price is settled a little bit!
Thanks for watching my friend. I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying the videos. Hopefully we will have a better idea of how the truck works overall before the zr2 is available
Yes, I'm Gonna sell my 2nd Gen Z71 Duramax and get the ZR2 with pretty much all the options. I thought I would have this for 10 years plus but after the Refresh I don't think I can hold off. The 2023 looks Awesome. The ZR2 wasn't available when I bought my 2017. Thanks for the info.
All on the same 6 banger. 3.6L VVT. Mine has a Mallet Supercharger with 3inch Cat Back exhaust is a 3 inch Cat Back. 435Hp@5000rpm w an Eight speed. Total Sleeper. Top was 252km and still had more.
I'm a old chrome guy, there is just too much black plastic on the trucks. The lack of a bigger engine is definitely a big turn off. But Holy Christ let's save the planet
I got my new2022 Colorado ZR-2 in late March. I love it. But if my dealer would have told me. I might have got a 2023. It already has the upgrades that I want on mine
@@reflectivefocus9044 yes, I really wanted the 10 speed but I guess the second generation 8 speed will have to work. I actually haven’t had any issues with my 8 speed
Keeping the 2021 ZR2 Diesel outside of the interior the Gen3’s doesn’t have enough bells and whistles to say I need an upgrade. I don’t like the Tacoma/4Runner look of the new ZR2
I like the 🌞 roof. Go driving and let that fresh air and sun hit you while having fun! Can't wait for the official numbers on the Ranger Raptor comes out. There's a guy in Australia (video) that put 35's on it with no mods. His was the 2019 style. I think the Dessert Boss would look badass with 35's.
Decent looking trucks, but GM made a huge mistake with the body style option. Look around and check out how many current-gen Colorados and Canyons are extended cabs. Almost all trade workers and company trucks seem to be extended cabs. This is because they're cheaper, and most of these trucks are used for actual working instead of taking the family out to the mall. Also, since the people who are driving company vehicles actually do work, they tend to utilize the full 6ft bed. Also, I have an extended cab 2016 Colorado because they're sleeker and weigh less (and cost less). I really think Mary Barra was counting too many beans on the day she killed the extended cab models of these new trucks, and that will push thousands of potential customers to the Ranger, which still offers a full bed and a cheaper extended cab option. How is GM supposed to (finally) dominate this segment when they get rid of the body style that brought in so many customers? And sadly, it's all because GM wanted to save money by limiting our options. ONE engine. ONE bed length. ONE cab configuration.
I'm definitely goin with that tan color.. I think it's called sand dune. It's the same color as all the dirt that's always on my black one! Loved my 2019 ZR2 and just got my 2022 upgrade a couple months ago. But now I gotta order one of these new 2023 versions asap, cause they fixed a few things and added everything I could have wanted. LED lights, push button start, tailgate beer cooler, standard 110 power supply in the bed, Sun-roof (I'm only 6 foot), way better new tech, beautiful new interior/exterior styling, new incredibly improved positioning for the rear shocks, wider stance, better approach/departure angles, and the biggest factor for me is the 430 lb-ft torque. Not the V8 ZR2 I've dreamed of.. but should be an absolutely noticeable increase in power making it feel way faster than this 2022 I'm sitting in right now. I gotta have one asap.
@@DustinFaddis My Dealership just got their allocations last week and my guy there called to tell me that my order was officially sent off to GM. I don't know when the build will start but he said he'd text or call when they notify him, so it looks like my 2023 ZR2 w/sunroof in the sand dune color is on it's way for summer 👍🏻
@@joalyincontroly4379 oh man, congrats on that. We’re still undecided on just about everything lol glad they aren’t out driving around. It gives us a little more time
The ZR2 is wider because it has longer upper and lower suspension arms. This is how the front track is wider. If you look up the part numbers you will see the upper and lower suspension arm part numbers are different for the ZR2.
I wouldn’t buy the first year of a new gen. I was a little tempted to because that turbo 4 I’m sure would get better mileage. But I went with a 2022 ZR-2 V6 got 4,600 off sticker and a great price for my trade. That and the fact that the new ZR-2 is probably gonna be in the high 50’s more than makes up for the mileage. Interior is fine by me I like the basic functionality of it. The Bose stereo option sounds great! that and Apple car play are all I really need. Drives better on and off road than any other midsize pickup I’ve tried.
These trucks look pretty badass. GM really knocked it outta the park. According to GM, the Trail Boss and ZR2 are 3 wider than the other trims. Looking forward to the GMC Canyon reveal.
@@DustinFaddis yeah they're 3in wider than standard. I got stoned and did some more digging. 2022 ZR2 is 62.4 (front) and 65.9 (rear). The 2023 ZR2 is 66.2 (front) and can't find any specs on the rear width. Height on the 2022 ZR2 is 72.5. For 2023, height has been increased to 79.9 (TB) and 81.9 ( ZR2). Much larger truck overall.
We'll have to wait to see if the 2.7T and 8l90 is a significant upgrade or not. Not sure what to think about 3: increase in WB, like the interior, not the exterior. Lack of ECLB kills it for me.
Nope, should have a bed big enough to haul things in it. These crew cab with tiny bed trucks make for shitty passengers vehicles as well as shitty trucks. Manufacturers need to start making pickup trucks again that can be used for doing what trucks are intended for. One can't even fit a bike in the bed without having the tailgate down. The bed should be long enough to sleep in. These types of pickup trucks have many compromises.
So. Is Z-71 it’s own trim now ? If not what trim is it ? I really like that silver color and the way that truck looks…..but until it gets something besides a 4cyl turbo I’m a no buy.
I think they did a good job listening to customers...they moved the low hanging shocks to the outboard kinda like 589fab sells I like that... loved the interior and fix with the shifter reloaction and 4wd selctor.....love that the zr2 can toe 7700lbs too much better camp trailer option with that....love the engine I can imagine with a trifecta tune that you can see even more impressive numbers. Only complaint is I wish it would at least give the option for 4.10 gears. Can't stand 3.42 setup biggest upgrade on my 2nd gen zr2 was the trifecta tune and 4.10s
I agree, I love the shock relocation and the shifter placement. I’m looking forward to seeing what trifecta can do with this motor. 430ft lbs… I’m happy about that. I wish it had an option for a bigger overlanding gas tank, but that’s just me being picky lol
You should be able to squeeze another 25+hp/35+tq out of it with tune and CAI. I know people knock the CAIs but those turbos will love it along with opening up the exhaust. 335hp/465tq should be easy. On that side of a truck it's going to be a beast. Also I believe the ZR2 is limited to 6000 lb towing where the trail Boss and Z71 have 7700 lb.
Recommend for the ZR2 a black interior option with the red stitching, would look great with a black exterior. Also need to find a better way to blend the info center into the dash, looks like just an afterthought of throwing your iPad up there.
From what I understand it’s the second generation of the 8 speed, with all the kinks worked out. I have the 8 speed in my 2020 and I haven’t had any issues with it.
@@DustinFaddis awesome good to know! I have a 2021 8 speed as well with no issues but I heard of alot of people having the transmission problems..... thinking of trading in mine for this new one !😭😎
While its great Chevy has kicked up the hype w/ the Colorado and the new E-versions of the Blazer/Silverado, I actually want to see some actual behind the wheel tests on the trims. Personally, i'd be inclined for the ZR2 myself as a city/roadtrip truck..
I have a 22 sand metallic ZR2 and am conflicted on getting the new one Fell in love with the 22 but yeah the same thing we’ve been complaining about are being addressed in this new model aside from the 10 speed auto/ . Probably will wait till the end of the year to make my decision.
Yeah I think I’m hooked with the interior, shock mounts and I’m actually looking forward to the 2.7 I like it in the Silverado and Now it has more power in a small truck. Of course I’d really like a v8
The integrated step has been there, this isn’t new. The rear shock mounts have only been moved on the zr2, no other trim. The zr2 and trail boss don’t have a wider chassis, they have a wider track width. Geez man.
The Chevy website says that the zr2 and Travis have a wider chassis haha. I just read it from their site. If they’re putting out bad info that’s on them. The bottom shock mounts don’t hang down as low on all trims. You can look and see that under every trim model. I guess we will see when the truck comes out.
You’re right about the step. The low model trucks have it but the zr2 doesn’t. Now it looks as though the trail boss will have it as well. It’s because they don’t want to change the departure angle of the zr2
Not sure yet. I like the looks but not sure about the turbo 4. Still building my 21 Z71 to be what i want. Love the comparison clip, that was hilarious. Definitely need to see in person & drive one. ZR2 Desert boss is wild looking, I'd prolly go Trailboss or Z71 if I upgraded. Great video. Please keep them coming
Glad you liked the video and comparison. 😆 I think they got me with that interior upgrade. It looks great. I’d like to see one in person. I’m curious about the yellow color. I need to see that as well
@@DustinFaddis YES. That interior is miles ahead of the 2nd gen. Glad they fixed some of the little things ie. Wireless charger etc. Still waiting on the power sliding rear window tho. Lol.
If manufacturers listen to customer feedback, why don't they ever listen to not using gloss plastic on high touch surfaces. It ages so fast and looks so ugly.
nope I won't switch from my 2021 I don't think you can put a supercharger on a already turbo motor. mine is lifted dif dropped peak booted and supercharged. I don't think the new one offers me anything I want. the new interior doesn't excite me it looks like my large drinks with straws in it will poke my arm. I like the old lay out where my arm naturally rests and my hand on the shifter it is ergonomically correct. I don't like the little round vents on the A/C and the little slit in the middle, it doesn't look like it has as much flow capacity and i had those old round vents before they suck, and you don't have as much ability to aim them. I like my 4x4 nobs hidden like they were so some fool cant Easley reach them and turn them on me aka kids and idiot friends. I don't like push button start if the button goes out what then with a key you have manual control. the 5ft 2 in bed sucks. I have an extended cab I don't want a crew cab where I come from, we call that a bitch truck it for picking up kids I like a man's truck not a school bus. they say it wider, mine is wide enough it i wanted wider I would have got a full-size raptor. I do trails and wider is not better when up in the mountains and the new one is 549 lbs. heavier. that is not good when is soft areas and hill climbing. the height and shape of the bull bar is hideous and the light bar going all the way down the bed is ridiculous you won't be able to reach any thing in the bed from the side. there are a few things I do like on the new one like the compartment in the tail gate the extra tie down points, the front camera the buttons on the steering wheel and rear shock placement. but the fact it will be longer and harder to turn around tight turns really sucks .. They say GM listened to people but I think it was the wrong people they seemed to concentrate on desert running and I dare say a lot more people live and use them in mountain and hill areas then desert Runners. In the east you have mountains running from Georgia all the way up the eastern US and you have the Rockies running all the way up the middle of the US then you have all the mountains in California and all up the west. so, I think they missed the boat and talked to the wrong people . that's all I got to say about that
I have a 17 Colorado ZR2 V6 and I'm contemplating trading in for a trail boss or the ZR2 depending on the tow rating capacity is a big factor to me. Also, the longevity of the turbo 4. I understand it has more torque than the 5.3 but concern in long-term use. I'm looking forward to test my theory
I love the new truck. They fixed most of the issues with the previous model LOW HANGING SHOCKS, 33 INCH TIRES FROM FACTORY and UPGRADED INTERIOR. Now for the things I wish they had done, better gearing the 3.42 needs to be at least a 3.73 and I’m not crazy about the new engine choice and where is the paddle shifters for the steering wheel? You know the new RANGER RAPTOR will have them come on CHEVY, now the engine I know this is a good engine and it has lots of torque but it needs more Horsepower the NEW Ranger RAPTOR will have 400 Horsepower and the same amount of torque and it sounds great. I mean guys would you rather have a turbo 4 cylinder or a turbo 6 cylinder putting out 90 more Horsepower? I think most people will choose the FORD. I think CHEVY will be regretting their engine choice in the near future
The 4 cylinder and front end are a let down. I'd rather have a turbo V6. I'll be keeping my 2021 zr2. I do like the higher lift and them moving the shocks on the outside to protect them. I don't like they made the truck wider. It's already large
@@cuzz2895 for me idk if I want to go from a 6 to a 4 cyl. Even though it has the same hp and more torque, a turbo will require much more maintenance and this new release will probably have some quirks.
@@Just_A_Gun_Guy I do love my 2021. It is by far my favorite truck i have ever had. I traded in my 2020 tacoma trd off road on this truck. I will definately give the new zr2 a little time to see if anyone has any major problems before i do anything.
@@Just_A_Gun_Guy why are you saying the 2.7l will need more maintenance? Are you just assuming it's because it has 4 compared to 6? It's worked well in he Silverado. In my experience, it has more to do with how the driver treats their vehicle that results in whether it lasts. Abuse it and treat it like a race car, and just like race cars... they'll break down and need repairs. Do regular changes and drive like a responsible adult and they'll last. It's how my 2005 colorado is still going great. I don't drive like I'm a Nascar driver though.... maybe there's that.
