V8 heads dislike the 2.7L turbo, but this new updated version is quite capable and 310hp with 430lb/ft of torque ain't no joke. If im looking for a full size truck the current Silverado Custom with the 2.7 turbo would be it, nothing fancy it looks good and have a decent sized bed for my needs. I especially like this color on your Silverado, very nice selection.

Quite capable yes, same MPG and less HP (similar torque) to a V8. And sadly this 8spd transmission is the weak point to this engine. I don't know why they don't pair it to the 10spd or even offer to pair it. GM really said hey, here is this amazing power plant that we are going to pair with our notoriously awful transmission!

That's fine, but I usually keep my trucks till they reach 300k miles without any major engine repairs. I don't see a 2.7 turbo engine doing the same

@@brent7368 from what i understand in the 2023 models they have a newer version of the trans. ( updates programming and internals ) but im not 100percent sure

As he pointed out, add passengers, definitely over, this is why I traded in my Trailboss, 5.3L for a 2500 before upgrading to a 33' travel trailer. The towing capacity was there, but 1800-ish payload gets eaten up real quick with 800 +lbs. tongue weight, family, bed cap and dog in the back. Totally agree, always better to have more truck than you need for towing. Interested to see the towing up a 6% grade. Thanks for your video.

I went with the 6.2L 1500 with 13,200 max towing config for my 32 ft TT 6400 dry weight. Payload is just shy of 1700 and is my only concern with 3 kids 5 and inder and a puppy. But will be just fine as long as I don't put super heavy things in the bed while towing and fully loaded up. I have a good amount of room to upgrade to a heavier trailer too before the kids get bigger. Then I'll have to likely upgrade to a 2500.

@JB Reviews I have this exact truck. Didn’t know about the 7-pin plug-in electric brake controller. I really like my 4-banger coming from a long line of Chevy Silverado v8’s. This truck is very nimble and smooth to drive.

Great video. I’m surprised you didn’t exceed the rear axle lol. The trailer is truly too big for a 1500. I think you probably got a lot of RV guy watching so they are hearing 28’ and thinking well my RV is 30’ or 32’. It’s worth mentioning that bumper pull RVs are typically measured differently than an enclosed car trailer. They measure the RVs from rear bumper to the hitch to get the length. The enclosed trailers only list the “box length” in their measurements. And also they are all 8.5’ wide. So JBs black trailer if it were an RV would be listed as 33’ (he has the extended tongue) and a “wide body” which I don’t think is an actual thing on bumper pulls. Regardless, a 28’ enclosed is too much for a 1500, max tow or not. 24’ is pushing it. A 32’ is really pushing a SRW HD.

GCWR on the truck was 14,500 and the weight slip had a combined of 14,060. So he was only 440lb shy of max GCWR. Hopefully you have a skinny family that packs light. :^)

I tow my 24ft race trailer with my TrailBoss, I do use a weight distribution hitch with sway Control and it's fine.

Great video. We had a 2019 trail Boss 5.3 towing 7000 pound TT and on windy days (or semi's passing) it always felt like the tail was wagging the dog. Upgraded to a gas 3/4 and it's much better.

Everything I’ve read says over 5000lbs use a WDH. That’s why it was all over the road. You really need to set up the truck and trailer for a true test.

Yes always helpful. Some transmission coolers have thermostat bypass there is better fuel milage when transmission oil is hot.

I’m looking at the trail boss and the camper I’m looking at now is 4600lbs. I was looking at bigger campers at first until I started looking at GVW dry vs fully loaded.

The trial boss has a 2” lift front and back so the squat should be the same on other GM units.

Glad you are showing everything you are doing! I don’t want to even think about how overloaded I am😢. I used to tow my water trailer with a half ton. Not a pleasant experience. Your race trailer weighs as much but with way more profile exposure to wind. Keep up the good work!

Chevy Silverado Texas addition is about the same 1,800 pounds in the bed,maybe 9,000-12,000 pounds but max is 18,000 it has a trailer brake switch.

Good stuff, JB. People sleep on this motor, but if you compare the specs to any 90s or 2000s v8 in all the halftons. This is comparable in HP and blows most of them away in torque.

The 6.5l turbo diesel originally had 385 torque, as did the 454 big block before 1996. The 454 increased to 410 torque and the 6.5l turbo diesel 430. The 2.7T makes as much torque as the HD engines did back then, more than the 454!

I just got the Diesel trail boss I’ll stay at 7k -7500# my dump trailer is 2,300# if I was towing 9k consistently I would get a 2500 hd.

My first and last truck with a 4 cylinder was a Chevy Colorado. I was told that the money I saved in fuel would be spent on the timing chain replacement. Front and rear chains requiring transmission and front axle (4wd) removal at 144k miles. I'm curious to see how these new 4 cylinder trucks are doing@150k miles. My 1998 GMC Sierra with the 5.7l had just over 300k miles with the only repairs being valve guide seal replacement due to oil smoke at start up.

Must not have the trailer tow package if it didn't come with a brake controller....? It would also do better with the longer box (wheelbase).

I had a 2010 Silverado with a "leveling kit" and it would unload the front axle easier. You could feel a "clunk" coming off bridges that it didn't do before. I assume it was the front end running out of down travel because I didn't buy the more expensive kit with upper control arms.

Thanks JB. Now if GM could add electric assist to the power train with 3/4 ton suspension for the extra weight of batteries you would have a pretty good all around 1/2 ton truck.

8k trailer weight and up, id go 3/4 ton duramax all day. Under that id go 1500 2.7.

What's your opinion on this... I have a 30' travel trailer RV With a dry weight of 6500lbs, probably about 7500lbs fully loaded...Would you be comfortable towing this? Just asking as I am in the market for a new truck. Thanks!!!! 👍

Unfortunately, I didn't get a new one yet 😢. Due to some financial issues, I may have to just dump a few extra dollars into my current truck and forego getting a new one since they're damn near $65 - $70k 🥵

Ehhh, just because you can doesn't mean you should. That trailer would be suited for a 3/4 ton minimum. Definitely enough to feel comfortable in a dually.

I love your videos but you're crazy about the Ford I have never had a ford tow bad that was a 16 pr newer and I've had all makes of trucks and I prefer the Ford over all of them.
