I loved the Barbie movie and I think that America Ferrera's speech was pretty basic BECAUSE she's speaking to Barbies that literally have never heard it before, unlike us adult humans. And as a mom of three young girls, I'm so grateful for this movie to introduce those topics to my children in a fun way. My 4 year old loved the movie because PINK but I'm hoping someday she'll truly take those lessons to heart and be the amazing woman I know she someday will be because of what she learned from Barbie.
Ahh interesting! To me it seemed like she was venting the frustrations that came to her in that moment So wonderful that your daughter could already appreciate it!
When I went, the whole theater's kids and some adults were singing Dance The Night during that one scene. 😭 It was so adorable. I wish I filmed it, but movie theater rules...
yeah i just turned 13 this year and that speech was definitely an eye opening moment for me and allowed me to embrace femininity a lot more this year which in very happy about. hopefully this paves the way for some even better pieces of media in 2024.
No spoilers…the creators say that when Klaus saved Caroline on her birthday, the chemistry was unreal and fandom spun in that direction without them planning it. Candice King is phenomenal.
Another comment Candice or the cast mentioned/joked about at an interview was that Candice's character Caroline would look like was getting match up with a lot of the male characters because Candice per se had great chemistry with many of them hehe
@@Outtacontextouttatime currently i'm a little mad at him bc he just impailed caroline with a wooden pole (OUCH) and then bit her (LETHAL) purely so her boyfriend would break up with her and leave
I’m watching TVD for the first time right now (on season 6!) and honestly all the actors are incredible. The amount of times people had to switch to different characters on portrayals drastically different and it was all believable!
Even just seeing small clips I can see how much shes improved from her Degrassi days. Unfortunately her character on Degrassi annoyed me so much, so even if TVD was my kinda show I don't think I could watch it because of Nina.
I suck at writing comments. But I found your channel this year, and it’s been such a bright space for me to go to whenever I feel down, and I’m so glad to have found you. To anyone reading, have a great day and a fantastic new year! ❤
i feel the same about the barbie movie!! love the girlhood aspect, but it felt way too ken heavy to me! 😭 so glad i heard someone else’s opinion who’s the same as mine lol
Ally you need to do a video deep diving into all Easter eggs from each Taylor album/era!!! You are so smart when it comes to Easter eggs and the things you find blow my mind! Like if you agree!
I loved Barbie, but I agree with all the points made. The best defensive I’ve seen of the monologue is that it wasn’t really for the women who already know how difficult womanhood is. It was aimed toward the younger girls who don’t know that reality yet. The speech from the creator at the very end felt more aimed at those of us already knew deep in dealing with womanhood versus the patriarchy. I do still feel the message would have been stronger if there was less of the Ken plotline.
One of my absolute favorite things from 2023 was discovering your channel, and experiencing this joyful community 🩷 The joy of sharing your favorite artists, movies and tv shows, and pop-culture things, is something I haven't experienced since my tumblr days during my teen (which consisted of 99% TVD btw, so I love that you're getting to experience that - and it hit HARD at 15-16 years old 😂) - so thank you so much for that ✨
Girlll, Alarick was ALWAYS my fav character in TVD and Caroline was a close second. Wow, thinking about Alarick always hits me right in the heart 🫣 I was watching the show as it was airing and stopped around season 6 but you actually got me excited about it again. I might rewatch and actually finish it this year - thank you! 💓
Barbie fell flat for me too.. so many people around me loved it and cried, but I couldn’t imagine when or why because it all felt kind of basic. Like you said, we’ve heard/seen it before in older movies. Still can’t really put it into words but 100% agree with you
Number one moment of this year for me was definitely going to the eras tour! I’ve never been able to see Taylor and I worked super hard to save up the money for tickets, and it was the most magical and surreal experience of my entire life! 😊
The Ken plot line in the Barbie movie did feel too big but it’s how Barbie found her voice. Plus I loved the scene when all the Barbie’s were voting. And America Ferrera’s monologue is definitely overplayed but I think especially maybe in the US with women’s reproductive rights being stripped away I didn’t hate hearing it again. Anyways, thanks for the fun and thoughtful videos ❤️
I found your channel this year and can’t even describe the happiness it has brought to me. I don’t really have any friends who are Swifties so watching your vids and reading through the comment sections feels like I’ve found my people. Thanks for being so amazing and creating real and truly feel good content ❤
As someone who subscribed to you for the Taylor Swift content but stuck around for all the other videos too, I'm so glad I found your channel!! Keep it up!
I loved Barbie movie, me and my friend went to the premiere in Sydney and the whole experience of sitting in the same room with other women, seeing their reactions and reacting with them was the most healing experience I had in 2023. It is truly been a girlhood year.
came for taylor swift, stayed for tvd i'd love to hear more of your thoughts about tvd!! i myself watched it for the first time just a couple of years ago, and it immediately became one of THE tv shows for me
omg the vampire diaries was such a formative experience of my teen years. I was absolutely OBSESSED with this show. Running home from school on Fridays to download the new episode, then spending the whole week dissecting every second of the trailer for the next one. Discovering my first makeup and hair tutorials on RU-vid. My first ever eyeshadow palette was Elena inspired and I learned how to use a curling iron because I wanted those Katherine curls. Basically I was always stunned at how beautiful Nina was. Since we have some similar features plus the fact that Nina's Bulgarian (I'm a slavic girl too) I just felt this connection and saw myself in the characters that she played. Also the way the main characters graduated the same year I did felt kinda cool and special. Ahh good old times
I was a Chiefs fan for years bc I liked Patrick mahomes. When I heard about Travis at the concert, I was excited. When I was watching the game and saw her. I SCREEmed 😂
ally, can i say how proud i am of you? i've been here since 2021 and i almost feel like your friend. you always spread such a light in my heart and in the world, and being here is an absolutely gift. hope your 2024 will be even greater. i guess my favorite moment at this year was attending for The Eras Tour last month. it was my first time flying and i even went with my beautiful squad. i can't be more happy just being there for the first time
1:02 ally, we love taylor content because it’s so much fun getting into the taylor swift school, but WE LOVE hearing you talk about everything else as well. 2000’s pop culture, movies, tv, music, girl talk, getting real with anxiety, travels, fashion and so on. any tier ranking you’d like to make or anything at all you want to talk about, we’re here 💜 thank you for an amazing 2023 🥰
FINALLY!!! i’m so glad someone is talking about how barbie wasn’t as good as we all thought it would be. With the insane amount of promo the movie had before its release, i think everyone went into the cinema thinking it would be a fun, girlhood, pink movie and it was just a bit all over the place? like you said, there wasn’t one clear plot and also i don’t think it targeted a large amount of ages? idk but i did still live for the pink summer of barbie 🩷 anyways, lovedddd all of your videos and content this year ally! so excited for next year and the eras tour!!!
I'm SO happy you mentioned Kelsie Ballerini!! Rolling Up the Welcome Mat and Kelly Clarkson's new album (Chemistry) have singlehandedly helped me through the unimaginable pain of separating from my husband and going no contact with my family this year. They're both heartbreaking but so incredibly healing!! Thank you so much for the content you make, Ally! You are truly my comfort channel, and I appreciate you immensely!! Have the happiest 2024 possible! Sending all my love from Indiana. 💖✨️💕😘
I heard Half Of My Hometown and Heartfirst on the radio throughout 2021 and 2022 and re-fell in love with her music after being fairly out of it since Love Me Like You Mean It (it gave country girl Beyonce vibes, I loved that song). I'm so glad you and Kelsea have been able to find a means to prosper.
Ally saying “almost as famous” made me giggle idk why, probably because as an international swiftie I had never heard of Travis before Taylor.(No hate ally is a queen) OMG SHE LIKED
i’m so nostalgic because of this video. this december marks 10 years since i started watching the vampire diaries, and at that point i was 12 and the show was in its fourth season and taylor was in the original red era. now, i’m 22 and i just bought tickets for my first taylor concert.
one of my favorite shows this year (that didn't actually come out this year) is the wilds. I will literally never shut up about this show; I'm trying to turn everyone into a fan! It's amazing- it's written directed and starring women!!! I love that show sm
Video games by Jensen McRae was so beautifully breathtaking. Also, I love hearing your thoughts on the Barbie movie. Thank you for praising Kelsea and Rolling Up the Welcome Mat cause the lyrics were just so gut wrenching but hopeful at points as well.
Ally, you were one of my favorites of 2023! I loved being able to watch your videos. I always looked forward to an upload. You are just pure sunshine and joy- definitely a bright spot of 2023!
ally I NEED you to enter your Maisie Peters era in 2024!!! start with the good witch deluxe album (the deluxe tracks will change your life) and then work backwards through her music (rockstar & blonde slap)
im on season 5 10 so i finally watched this and loved your analysis on delena and stelena and about her last moments visiting him.. however literally everything changed when the sire bond was created… i will never understand how overlooked that is!!!!
the best parts of 2023 for me were: 1. I got to preform 3 amazing plays this year 2. my whole eras tour trip. my childhood bestie and her Family flew across the USA and we hiked and left Friday and then saw Taylor Swift that Sunday. it was a dream and I'm so in love with what I wore. 3. making friendship bracelets. 4. BARN DANCES. 5. my cousins 6. I fell in love with a new youth group. 7. top albums were definitely "emails I can't send" by Sabrina, "bewitched" by laufey, and "snow angel" by Renee which I actually learned about from you. 8. the joke and excitement every time mother ally Sheehan posted
I’m a teenager and some of my fav memories this year was 1. Seeing my best friend in London during the summer (she moved away 2 years ago) 2. Finding out I’d gotten era’s tickets for 2024 ❤❤I’m a new swiftie (only became one two years ago) so it’ll be my first Taylor Swift concert and I can’t wait 😭❤️🥰
As someone who also finally watched TVD for the first time this year, yes yes yes yes!! I can’t believe I slept on the series for so long, it now lives rent free in my mind all the time!
I loved your perspective on Delena. I think Stelena is literally the first love kinda of thing, especially if you are a person who lives in the countryside outside of a large metropolis or capital, you know exactly how important first love is for those from the countryside. Because it represents that comfort that the passion will always remain innocent and correct. Like: "we are never out of style". While Delena represents your second love, that love that arrives by opening all the doors without you having the control of deciding to close them or not. It's not always ideal or what you imagined for yourself, but I think that's the beauty of the second love. Because the image we project for ourselves is not always what will take us forward. And it also represents (Delena) that love that each phase gets stronger. (King Of My Heart). I also just wanted to say one thing regardless of Delena or Stelena, at the end of the day Defan will always be the best ship. 💋💞 The sibling relationship between Stefan and Damon is a very beautiful thing to see. And does anyone think Ally will love Hope and Lizzie's friendship? I think this duo will be something she will love to see on screen.
Okay TOTALLY agree with your Barbie take! I have been feeling the exact same way about it but couldn’t find the words to describe it! I definitely also wanted more of a Barbie identity journey, but I feel like since they were trying to fit so much into the film we didn’t get a lot of depth of anything
I also watched TVD this year for the first time, and actually I was watching season 4 when Speak Now TV came out💜💜💜 I became a swiftie when Midnights was released, and I'm so happy, Taylor's music changed a lot of things about me and my life, 2023 was really something I feel like this year gave us back our girlhood, 'cause it was ours first, but I can't wait to see what the future holds...
I love your pop culture, girl talk, and non- Taylor related content so much 💖💖 that’s what first brought me to your channel and your Taylor Swift content was just an added bonus!
I also fell in love with Kelsea Ballerini this year and that album! I really feel like this was the year of strong independent women as well! I feel like I’ve gotten closer this year to my girl besties then ever and we’ve connected a lot over powerful female artists, eras tour films, friendship bracelets, hot pink nails, bows in our hair, romance books, and so so much more girly things! I loved it!
2023 favourites: seeing my fave band 7 times!! and also split dying my hair purple and green ✌🏻as for new years resolutions, I just wanna work on making friends (something I failed spectacularly at this year), being kind to myself and learn to roller skate 🛼🥰
I loved the Barbie movie, and love it more every time I watched it!! The RU-vid video “Barbie is a deconstructionist text” by Media Processing summed it up perfectly, but for me there were just so many layers to film and it made me feel so seen!!
I loved Caroline and Alaric's characters too, the rollercoaster of emotions T_T Ive watched this show like twice and Im still undecided whether or not I'm Team Damon or Team Stefan
I was at the 1975 concert in London and it was wild, no introduction at all just here’s Taylor Swift. I was calmer than I was when she came out at HAIM in July 2022 lol
Manifesting a ton of brand deals for Ally!! Tysm for the incredible content, you were one of the first people I watched when I entered the swiftie fandom and you helped me out so much!! Truly a great and wise spirit ^-^
I have to say Kelsea is the nicest person I’ve ever met. I went to the Kenny Chesney I go back tour when she opened for him and I met her and she was so sweet and kind and she wore PINK!
Omg. I felt the same way about the Barbie movie. It was great but was missing something for me personally. The big message seemed a bit watered down but I suppose to a lot of people who don't have those types of conversations regularly, maybe it was a big light bulb moment; I imagine for a lot of men for sure.
My 2023 favourites would be 5SOS5, falling back in love with taylor's music after loving her as a kid, switching my degree to something I'm in love with, my new job and the best friends I've made there and of course finding your channel! 🫶✨
Augh I just love TVD so much!! I grew up watching it, and it really was the moment for 10yo me lol. It's so fun to see a new fan react to it! Especially because it tends to recieve a lot of mixed feelings (erring on the negative side more recently), so it's nice to counteract that with some more positivity. Also never feel bad about getting too invested, I have cried multiple times because of various character deaths, including the one you featured (Nina's crying really hits hard in that moment). Elena is my favorite female character, I adore Nina's acting as her, and I just love how compassionate and human she is, honestly I relate to her a lot. Caroline used to be up there more, but S5 & 6 (no spoilers) just made me frustrated with the writers and their choices for her character personally. Bonnie will always be iconic, I love the fact that she's such a great friend to Elena and Caroline. I liked her and Jeremy quite a bit together, they were adorable. As for male characters, I adore Damon. I tend to like bad boy characters with a secret heart of gold (seriously it's like my favorite thing for whatever reason lmao). He's also hilarious, which is very much a plus. Klaus and Stefan are pretty high up there too. Stefan is very sweet, and kind, and his backstory is SO good. I love his relationships with both Damon and Elena. The messy family dynamic between the brothers was very engaging, and his chemistry with Elena was SO good (just not quite as good as Delena's haha). Imo Klaus is the best villain on the show, it just feels like everything was leading up to him. Silas was never as engaging personally, but one future villain actually almost hit that same spot (again no spoilers). The spinoff show, The Originals, never really hit for me though, I just couldn't get into it. Sorry for the long ass comment, I just rarely get to comfortably share my opinions on the show (the reddit community is so incredibly toxic, I've seen people get massively downvoted for liking Elena, as well as disliking Katherine and Caroline 0.0). I hope that you do make an entire video about the show once you finish though, I'm so curious on what you'll think about future plotlines. 💜
Just would like to say one of the highlights of my year was guts it is one of the best albums but also waking up at 3 am to watch a glitchy livestream and scream to so of the best songs ever made 🎉
u recommended kelsea ballerini in this video and now i'm obsessed. omg. that EP???? ?????? she is truly filling the country pop hole in my heart that taylor left behind! also congrats on such a successful 2023 ally; been a longtime follower since around 2016 on your tumblr and i couldn't think of a lovelier person for this success to happen to. as sad as it sounds, you inspired me to be a kinder person. you radiate love & light. excited to see what 2024 has for you
This year was the best year I've had in a while, even if it started out with bumpy roads, I just had fun! I stayed up til 3AM talking to one of my bestest friends ever about Speak Now (TV) while listening to it also. I went to some of the best concerts (not the Eras Tour :( tho, I was an hour away from one tho) I went to a Kane Brown concert and a Smash Mouth concert!! And overall just stayed easy-going all year.
OMG, I wish I could erase my TVD memories just so I could experience the feeling of watching it for the first time again. You are in for a fun ride for sure, I've watched all the seasons five times already, it's that good!!!! Please make more videos on TVD
Totally agree with your thoughts on Barbie! I loved it but there were parts I would have like to have seen done differently! I also found you this year through Taylor and like many of us commenting here, you are my go to for all things Swiftie!! All the best for the New Year ❤
Ahh Ally, your videos honestly feel like the best girlie sleepovers. I feel like I should try out questionable face masks, eat copious amounts of chocolate and watch all the 'chick flicks' (basically a lot of high school musical or mean girls). Whenever I watch your videos. Love the girlie chat space you've created ❤.
