2023 Ford Maverick Review - This is the Truck MOST People NEED 

This is exactly what I've been wanting in a truck. Just big enough to take off trash, pull small trailers or campers, transport furniture and still fit the whole family with great gas mileage.

After 16 months I finally picked up my Maverick. My first hybrid, incredible mpg and everyday versatility. Mine was 24K, XLT/360/hitch. Sold my '20 F150 for what I paid for it and bought the Maverick. Crazy used car prices

"This is the Truck MOST People NEED" - You are exactly correct. If a driver can get over big truck syndrome, (as long as he doesn't really haul heavy stuff or trailers), the Maverick is all that anyone needs.

My exact vehicle (including sunroof) except for colour. Got mine in July of last year (2022) after a year's wait, and love it -- everything I expected and more. Great ride and handling, city and highway, despite the torsion bar rear suspension rather than the independent suspension of the Ecoboost version. A surprisingly good road-tripper -- quiet and comfortable over long drives. Am getting much better mileage than you got -- averaging under 6.0 litres per 100 km in the summer, closer to 7 in colder weather. No complaints. Being able to tote 4x8 sheets of plywood without the need for tie-downs is a big advantage over your average SUV, at least for those of us who frequent Home Depot. Never thought I'd buy an American-made vehicle. Now I'm a huge Ford fan.

What I like about the maverick is how easy it is to just reach in the back because of the perfect height

I finally got my VIN on the Maverick I ordered in Sept. My take is like what you mentioned about accessories. The way I look at it is that I am getting a CHEAP truck (I went XL Hybrid with non-towpackage hitch, full size spare and upgraded electronics). When I see someone with a Lariat package on the Maverick, while is looks beautiful, all I can think of is that someone got an expensive cheap truck.

My friend finally received the base truck and you know it is very nice , rides great , fantastic millage , lots of fun , all you really need . ....eh

This is more truck than what most truck drivers need.

Just got ours after waiting 18 months. We ordered a 2022, they gave us a 2023. We got a white one. We love it. Just got the basic hybrid.

You can find an older Ranger (or two!) on literally every street in my town - from the 80s, 90s, 2000s - basically every iteration. They're everywhere and they're beloved and kept pristine by their owners despite being daily drivers AND work trucks! My best friend just received on as a gift from a man who couldn't drive anymore. Both of my grandfathers had small trucks (Chevy s10 and Toyota pickup). It blows my mind that no manufacturers hopped on this wagon for so long for like 10 years, besides maybe the old Nissan Frontier. It seemed like Toyota and Chevy thought a base model access cab Tacoma/Colorado was good enough, but they were still bigger with average mpg. Maybe we will see an access cab Maverick with a 6ft bed, maybe not. Maybe Ford is afraid that people would buy that for $23-27k and not buy the work truck F150 for $40k lol!

I've been waiting for my Maverick for close to a year or better and have been bumped up to the 2024 - I'm buying it in the same color as your review. Going from a Civic to the Maverick. Thanks for the great review!!!

I'm glad compact utility vehicles are coming back in the west. The market has gone without for too long. With the prices of full size trucks, it's impossible for a small business to afford to get a reliable truck

Another great review! I suspect Ford is throttling Maverick production in favor of the F-Series, which is one reason why the Maverick (especially the Hybrid) is so hard to get.

Any reason why the check engine light is flashing at you in some of the videos?

I just took delivery of mine after 16 months, carbonized gray, blackout package Lariat hybrid. It is a joy to drive around Chicago… that’s when you really appreciate it The mileage has fallen short of my expectations on the highway, but I’m comparing it to my platinum fusion, which was much more aerodynamic. I’m missing some of the luxury features of the fusion, but this truck is only 7 inches longer. Still fits in my small garage. I made the right choice and it was worth the wait.

Received mine 2 weeks ago. I see things on your XLT Lux that i didn't get on my USA Lariat Lux. Temp knobs don't have lcd readouts, my steering wheel feels like the Active-X.

i ordered my XLT in 2023 in the middle of the few days the ordering banks were open. same color, with sunroof and rear window. - THATS MY TRUCK !! -lol. seriously is it available ?

Yes , but i can't get my ford dealer to talk to me about a Maverick and how long it will take to get it.

The 2.0 issues in the past has scared me away.

Ford really nailed it with the Ford Maverick. Very surprised there are really no competitor out there. Toyota gave up the compact trucks some years ago (hope they build a Maverick competitor). I am frustrated with the loss of the Honda Element in the market. I am one of those people that needs functionality in a vehicle but not willing to go to (or needing) a full-sized pickup or even a Tacoma sized one. Also, in these times those of us like me need high fuel economy. Really, how many need a full or mid-sized truck to go to the coffee shop. Not me. Actually, how many need a decked-out SUV to got to the coffee shop. A totally functional high fuel economy compact pickup or honda element type box-on-wheels vehicle. Hopefully all other vehicle manufacturers as recognizing what Ford has done.

I'm 5'8" and when I first took posession of my car It seemed a little far away from the pedals when I moved the seat close as I can. My wife hates the car as she can't move it closer to what I have set it too. She is 5'5" IS there something i need to know to make further adjustments to move it closer. WE have a 2023 Hybrid Mav.

Traded my 2020 F150 5.0 , I know I know.. but I didn’t need a road castle anymore. I LOVE this little thing. Very well thought out. However, driving so low is something I don’t like.

I'm confused, the Honda Ridgeline has been around since 2006 and the Maverick is basically the same style of truck (unibody) but everyone ignores the Ridgeline as if this truck market didn't exist till the Maverick came out.

How about this one, when I picked up my new Maverick I was charged a tire disposal fee. You were charged for the techs gloves and paper towels he disposed of. Get a second opinion from a performance alignment shop. Be well 🙏🏻

Seriously thinking about trading my Roush F150 for one of these. I don't go off-road or live in the country; don't haul work crews, haven't towed anything and parking it sucks. The Maverick is perfect personal utility vehicle.

Looks like you switched out tires for Falkan Wildpeak A/Ts. Did mileage go down much? And why not answer question about brakes?

What the people don't need is the sleazy dealers completely ruining the whole point of this truck, a functional small truck at a REASONABLE price.

Once you add everything you want on this truck you start to wonder why you don't just buy the ranger at that point.

Ecoboost is the same price in 2023 as hybrid. No extra charge... Also, 30 mpg for the Ecoboost is not painful, but a lot more fun...

1:00 it used to be that the F-250 (and F-350) used the same basic bodyshell as the F-150 and just had beefed up suspensions, but these days the F-250 is massively larger than the F-150. When exactly did this start?

The problem I am seeing is Dealer Markups due to Demand are making it more expensive than a Ranger.

Can it fit plywood, 4x8, in the bed?

Did Ford fix the brakes? They have been having problems with the brakes suddenly grabbing as you slow to a stop.

If it was rwd I’d buy one. Front wheel drive in a truck just doesn’t seem right.

Good truck for retired people

Most people don't need a truck at all. If they did cars would be rare. If people need a truck for 4ft long cargo Maverick and Santa Cruz work. Such as flowers, bags of dirt, grass seed, 4 bales of straw, enough quickcrete for a small project, lumber that sticks 1/2 way out the back, very small machinery (lawn mower or minibike) Half that will fit in a car. Most would fit in a real station wagon. They don't make station wagons so you need a Maverick. However none are on lots, they're marked up $12000, so you might as well buy that Ranger they had on the lot for two months at $35000. Trucks last a long time. 250k to 500k and 20 to 30 years. Cars not so much. It is a good mini utility truck but it is really a car. Ford Car!

Sorry but no matter how "good" they claim it to be, having to wait years to get one will never be acceptable. The auto makers learned this back in the 60's when ordering cars was the rage. Since then a majority of consumers are far too impatient and car makers are losing a ton of cash, especially on the "compulsive buyers" of today's marketplace.

Problems its the truck no one can get. When was the last time you have seen one on your local ford lot?

An ideal truck that I would go in a NY minute, but the scarcity of this model to order in a showroom, and waiting what may seem forever for it, is suck a turn off!!! A pity!!! 🙏♐

With the $2K price increase, reports of interior separating, the god awful entertainment center, cheap plastics on the inside, dealerships overcharging like crazy, and the reported engine issues… no thanks. I’ll gladly take my Santa Cruz with the better warranty, 1500 lbs more towing capacity, lockable trunk/cooler, and paying $2K under MSRP.

“Everyone needs” but very few can find, or order, or buy for MSRP. It’s difficult for me to understand what Einsteins at Ford corporate didn’t anticipate the demand for something like this.

Great idea. Too bad you can’t get one and even if you could, the dealer markups make it way overpriced.

If only Toyota and Honda would come up a truck of this size, I would definitely consider it when I need a truck as an additional vehicle. I am not so sure about Ford's build quality and reliability, given my poor experience with a rental Escape and Explorer with faulty electronic AWD. Not to mention friend's F150 Ecoboost with countless quality problems.

No 6' bed? No can do. The F150 has 3 different bed length options. The Ranger has 2 different bed length options. If you're gonna make people wait 12-18 months to "start" building their vehicle, atleast offer one for solo drivers with a small cab and a 6' bed. Make it happen Ford.

Ford won't be reliable as Honda. I don't recommend Ford. Toyota or Honda is the way to go.

Build quality on that vehicle is shameful, the undercarriage has rust before you even take delivery. Ford has really dropped the ball on quality how much money can you actually be saving by not painting metal parts? Look under a 10 year old ford and a 10 year old Honda and the difference will shock you.

Ford needs to SELL DIRECT since greedy dealers are destroying the price point by once again marking them up to where people won’t buy them! Many competitors have new coming in this mkt.

The truck most people need, the truck many people want, and the the truck almost no one can buy because ford is incompetent.

That transmission would have died on the last couple jobs I did. Had to go through a dry lake bed and up a wet steep incline. 4lo and mudtires were necessary. If you get groceries only and carry small amount of stuff its probably decent. Except its a ford product.
