10:38 soft in the rear would loose steering on a wet road. Also rather than worrying about cup holders, and soft touch surfaces be good to see all the features on the screens how you set up brake controller ,turn on diff lock etc
Thanks for the review. Finally a towing segment. I’ve ordered the V6 Sports with the touring pack & AT tyres options. I tow a 2.5T caravan & have been waiting for this vehicle. Good to see rear disc brakes also 👍
@@Deatomizer With your reply, nor you to I. Be very careful in how n what you pack to travel.. There are laws n regulations needed to be followed to remain within guide lines.
Hi mate. Did you do any research about the crankshaft? The previous TDV6 frequently have premature crankshaft failure under towing. Someone told me ford re-designed the crankshaft and journals, but no not exactly sure how they did. And there is no enough information from the F150 for this TDV6,as it was only used for 3 years. Let us know if you have any information about it. Cheers.
As a car reviewer. Could you answer me a question please? if this powerstroke TDV6 has get the premature crankshaft failure issue sorted out. If you have any reliable information, could you point me to read? I think most potential buyers wants a reliable car, rather than some fancy electronic techs.
Looks fabulous. It looks that it will be very expensive to have one at Central América. One thing that I dislike is the electronic handbrake, but it looks incredible
Can you go more in depth with towing , show how to set up for van blind spot and putting in set up for electric brake controller as they can have more than 1 trailer in the memory.
I wish you blokes would check your stuff before misleading people. The 4A mode IS NOT PERMANENT 4x4. Even the name gives it away. 4 automatic. In other words, it AUTOMATICALLY selects 4x4 drive when slip is detected. You only have to watch the torque bars in the LCD screen to see which wheels are getting drive, and it is NOT all of them all of the time! Quite a different system to permanent 4x4, which is always sending drive to front and rear, until one end or the other slips - then it needs driver intervention to maintain drive, ie, manually locking the centre diff. Very different systems.
Is it true with prolonged exposure to water crossings and corrugations the electric steering rack fails and a new genuine ford ranger electronic steering rack costs 8 to 10 grand if you can find one ?
You have no idea what you are talking about the screens are awesome, I've used the one on the ranger and love it. People are used to using phones and tablets in everyday life. You won't be able to sell a modern car without good tech. Who the hell like the tacky cream headliners
@@zambacan that's cool but my comments were mainly on the large screen which has nothing to do with staying at all. Thats like saying a 30 inch tv is better styling then a 60 inch TV 🤣 And yes styling is subjective. But most utes interiors on the market are very cheaply make and utilitarian. It's good too see someone moving in a more premium direction. You have have a rugged and premium look I would point to the new Wrangler as an example
I sat in one.. I think they are good but possibly larger than necessary. I there are better looking interiors. But we might not all agree. The new defender interior looks great to me.
Ford will be loving this marketing! They are not alone though in selling us overpriced vehicles. Over $70k for a dual cab? Seriously? Would love to know the profit margin on one of these and Im betting it's FAT! We, the car buying public have done this to ourselves because everyone wants the latest and greatest and the manufacturers know it
It’s irrelevant when you consider what you actually get for 70k and the resale value, it’ll probably be worth 55-60k in 3 years with 50,000km on the clock so who cares what the initial purchase price is?
These cars are for high income earners. The average wage earner would struggle paying a quarter of their weeks earnings to get even the base model. Maybe a ten year lone would do it.
@@craigdavid6668 What you get is old tech repackaged. And it MAY be worth that in three years...but if we go into recession, it could be worth a lot less. We will see how many tradies wives will be crying now the ATO has said they are going to crack down on FBT for these types of vehicles. ATO has said that if you do more than 200km in a single trip that is not work related (and that's 1 trip total, not per trip), the FBT exempt is no longer valid and you will get slugged.
It's odd how important Midsize trucks are there. I mean it makes complete sense in one way but, with such a large country, it seems odd. Then I remembered that fuel prices here (in the US) vs there flips that thinking on it's head. Over here the midsize trucks barely get mentioned, with the full size getting the focus.
Wont be buying a Ford ever again. Had a bad CV drive shaft. No warranty on 2020 model Ranger. Reason 50mm lift suspension upgrade🤬 Any mod scratch warranty
I spoke to a fellow at Ford who has driven it and says it is higher than the official figure (as it’s always is) on the highway he was seeing instantaneous figures in the low nines. He said combined is probably 10 point something. I guess press drivers can be lead footed.
interesting review, it certainly does set the bar high for utes in Aus. Not sure Crafty looks like he is about to eat the steering wheel for lunch. Very close seating position for off-road IMO!
Good technique for offroad driving is to sit closer to the steering wheel for a number of reasons. Look at any Offroad driving race like rally cars or Dakar etc. The wide angle lens probably makes it look worse though.
@@k_plax I can kind of understand the position when driving a race car, but for standard off roading (not difficult on this test) I don't see the point, especially if he catches a rock or edge and it turns the steering wheel abruptly.
@BAZ-R Adventures Fair call, mate, but I do have short legs! I tend to rack pretty close for better control - for me anyway, everyone's different - but I think on this occasion it might be a bit of an optical illusion: a combination of the lens ... and my tub guts! Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate you taking the time. - Crafty
Hi CARSGUIDE, I've just seen the CURRENT AFFAIR regarding the issues of the current FORD RANGER. Issues such as suddenly braking at 80 km/h, dash board screen showing nothing and poor customer service. In your future videos, COULD YOU PLEASE INCLUDE CURRENT ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE (any vehicles) and WHAT THE MANUFACTURERS DOING ABOUT IT (fixes). Your videos influences how our hardworking Australians buy their knew vehicles. You will provide GREAT SERVICE to our community by providing not just the POSITIVE and NEGATIVE reviews about the vehicle but also the actual issues with it. This way, the MANUFACTURERS can be put on notice, up their standards and giving the manufacturers the idea CUSTOMER SERVICE should be their number one priority. Now that's a concept, PASSIONATE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
It is so comfortable to drive so easy to use and so many creature comforts - if you struggle to use this system you might need to freshen up your tech savvy... just saying... why talk something down if you are most likely the problem ;)
Great review. Very helpful. Is anyone going to buy the 4 cylinder? Ford has placed the 4 cyl Wildtrak at the same price as the 4 cyl Rogue which will direct Wildtrak sales to the V6 as I understand the Rogue doesn't have a V6 option (yet).
1 thing these guys can't tell you is cost of replacing lights... I would advise all new gen owners to invest in protecting back lights as just cracked 1 of mine to my cost of 2200 dollars 😮
Agree about the brake pedal feel. I much prefer my PXII Wildtrak. This current version felt doughy and without the reliable bite I'm used to. I'm sure I'd get used to it, but on first impressions it was a step back. Not sure why its changed but I'd prefer the old feel.
Same about the brakes test drove one yesterday and was surprised how wooden they felt, like it wasn't going to pull up until you applied hard pressure.
Look I’m a big bloke, I can’t justify spending over 90 grand plus plus for a bigger truck, I’m looking for cab space, all the tech is great, but after a long drive, how comfortable is the average person climbing out of these mid size vehicles, can I carry 2 adults comfortably, oh wait that question was answered, so no and this is where it gets tough to buy. Ram want to much, the F150 is to expensive, hilux same as Ranger basically, it’s just so difficult getting what we want as consumers. Would it kill them to make them a bit bigger?
It doesn't have a center differential. I am surprised none of the reviews really go into it. It's a multi clutch setup which enables it to turn 4WD on or off as required. I have been searching for information on its ability to transfer torque proportionally but so far haven't been able to find any. At this stage I think it's just like the 2WD 4WD on the lower grades but it does the switching automatically by the clutch on-the-fly. This seems to be very different to a true full-time four-wheel drive system that a Jeep Grand Cherokee may use for example which has all wheel drive, four-wheel drive high locked and then 4wd.low locked. But in the end it actually seems to work
@@jrckelley thanks for the info. Then that would make it the same 4x4 system as the Defender and Everest. All do still have proper 4x4 transfer cases that work as true 4x4 when engaged. You are correct when you say its not a traditonal mechanical centre diff like old school but works much the same as I understand. The Ford Bronco also has the same system. That is the advanced trac 4x4 system and from what I've seen it works very well
@@jrckelley also to add on what you were saying about the lower grade as far as I understand it. A centre diff is only necessary when the vehicle is full time 4wd. The lower grades would just have the regular transfer case with no centre diff
Oz people snobbed the territory diesel because had a lion engine, funded on the land rover with dual timmig belt. Because indeed those engine weren't built for heavy duty use rather to be quite and smooth. Plus this will have dpf issues that territory didn't have and still had issues I don't understand ford's Australian strategies Better a barra turbo in my opinion
Paddle shifters are very welcome especially for those manual maniacs out there, putting the ranger wildtrak into baja mode and it will fly like an eagle
What are you coming from? I don’t like the flat / vertical dash. Cluster is tiny too. Oh well mine arrives in just a few weeks and hoping I just get used to it.
@@RD11RT I’m with you on the dash. I really don’t like it. It’s too big and flat the top looks flat too. There doesn’t seem to have any shape to it. It reminds me of a park bench. I’m going to wait for the Amarok
Tell the perspective buyers of the real life towing figures.. Did you happen to mention that once you load the car with mum n the kids plus everything that’s needed for a holiday trip, how much you can ‘REALLY’ tow, NO, nothing said of that…
Compare to 4x4 24/7 channel off road sucked because of the new extended wheel base. Lift kit recommended. I think it’s too expensive especially for a ford. And the wild track is probably the best option since the raptor looses so much payload and towing.
Ford should sell the Raptor with an option for 3.5t tow and same payload as wildtrak then they would sell a million of them a year. Only thing that turned me off from buying one.
@@briandeiwert5911 the US ranger and the world wide ranger are a bit different so the ranger you see here won't be the ranger you get in the US but there will be some similarities.
How rediculous saying use ur spotter instead of the camera, not sure why you think people have someone with them and also have the time, trust and patience when you can simply look at the screen and KNOW what's ahead without stopping at all, maybe it's a Toyota thing like pulling over and doing a manual burn wasting fuel and time instead of just buying a vehicle that's designed properly.
I don’t like it, it’s right-hand drive, left side of the road; it doesn’t look right from the start 😁🥴 Put the steering wheel on the left side such that the gear selector or the stick shift, the latter even better yet, such that it’s a right hander-looking, then might consider it 😁 Waiting for the V35A-FTS engine mated Toyota Hilux though (3.5-litre V6 gasoline fed or petrol fed twin-turbo)
payload ??? diff lock ??? how many assistant pieces are getting fried ??? may be the new hilux is more down to earth ??! price much to high , should not cost more than 48 K !!! car not built for tiny and serpentine roads ! Good for people who love makeup, automatic gear box not perfect off road ... .. .
This was painful to watch. You just dribbled on over pointless whinging things. First that comes to mind is the screen and double up of buttons and the same ones on the screen…. Exactly how the current rangers screen is. It isn’t a bad thing. Means you can change them on the fly with the buttons and not have to change the screen.
@@zambacan Have the 3.2l 5cyl Our normal driving gives a consistent 9.6L/100km The wifes little Mazda 3 was 7.3l/100 last time I looked. Wife says the Ranger is the best all round vehicle we have ever owned and I have to say, I agree 😉
@@carsguide I thought it was good. Less biased than others. Be good to see it against a hilux and dmax off road. I think the ground clearance may be an issue compared to the others
I have to agree with you. This entire review was presented from a negative perspective. For example : "the dark headlining which I don't necessarily love... ; not to say that it's bad.... ; but there is also duplication.... ;it is interesting but not necessarily perfect... ; I personally prefer a horizontal layout rather than a portrait, but there is nothing I can do about that.... ; I think it's interesting looking, but not necessarily the easiest shifter to use.. ; a little bit of foot room, but not too much, a little bit of headroom, but not too much.... ; not bad, but not setting any benchmarks... ; especially when the Hilux doesn't offer anything like this yet... The ride is mostly pretty comfortable, but I wouldn't say it's perfect... This was not a review. This imo was this guy's response to the hype about the new Gen Ranger. In short what he actually said was; The new Ranger is not that great, even though it is slightly more advanced than the outgoing model it replace, in my opinion it is still not perfect. When he proclaimed that the Hilux will yet respond to the Ranger challenge, I could sense the bitter taste. I thus can't wait for the release of the Ranger in South Africa. If it was so difficult for this guy to say something good about the Ranger without following it up with a but, then it is certainly worth checking out...
Setting the benchmark 😂. Media money sets the sales benchmark, X class is still the benchmark in this class. They just never paid the media enough money and got bagged out, the current amarok v6 is a better road towing vehicle to drive. No big media budget though. Even before all this the V6 navara 10 years ago returned the same fuel numbers or better on combined and performed as well for the price was the best by a long margin, no huge media budget,
@@Sabumnim666 hours upon hours of reading reviews learning the actual ins and outs of all the vehicles, than a test drive of my own, unlike most media who wouldn’t know the facts about the vehicles they drive.
