I'm a 61 year old female/grandma who owns a 2009 Saturn Sky redline (mildly modded for time attack racing.) I think you guys would be pleasantly surprised the car could beat either the Honda or Toyota. I also run 275's square on my set up. Please give me a shot. Thank you
Why bother advertising people to sign up? All you do is pick same people over and over again. You need to make it clear it's a requirement to have 100k+ followers on social media
Like before, John's car is more modified than the other competitor's car, giving him the edge. The Corolla did great considering it is the underdog here.
When the GR first came out everyone was so sure it was gonna dethrone the CTR. Boy we’re they wrong. There’s just something special about the CTR. Even the Morizo Edition can’t take down the CTR. I do like both tho.
Even if both 100% stock, the R is just quicker, as its 'Ring time indicates. 7:44 at the 'Ring cannot be matched by any other hot hatches and is quicker than over 90% of BMWs ever made (fun fact there).
Incredible video!! You guys killed it!! In January I traded my 2019 FK8 type R and bought a new FL5!! I love it a lot! I was fortunate to get my FL5 at msrp without any add-ons! I bought my last FK8 Type R and a few different Civic Si’s over the past decade from them! I have a great relationship with them! I like my FL5 quite a bit more than my FK8! The GR Corolla looks incredible as well! I haven’t seen one in person but I am definitely a fan! Great comparison you guys! Keep up the amazing content! I look forward to the next video! 🚙👍🏼😀🔥
Love my GRC but the slight power difference and less drivetrain loss makes the FL5 a bit faster especially around track with more sweeping corners and longer straights.
@@christopherbassit2757 yeah, that’s why I think if they were evened out, same mods, tires, etc. it’d be super close. Especially if it was a tight track. GRC is already faster 0-60 and quarter. I am jealous of that interior though lol. Just can’t justify the price (with mark up) since I got my GRC at msrp.
@@MarcosCernaG I also am jealous of the interior but it’s really not as bad as people are saying. I might trade mine for a 2024 CE if given the option because I’m really digging that new blue color with the blue interior stitching.
@@christopherbassit2757 yeah. I just can’t justify if I have to pay mark up. I hate the red stitching on CR and Morizo. I’ll just get some nice buckets for mine and call it a day the rest of the interior is the same.
@@christopherbassit2757 The CTR is putting down its power though, that's why it was faster. Go watch the GR Corolla vs Civic Type R that Jason Cammisa did. Or savagegeese. Or many others. The Civic has a larger engine, more top end, and is a supremely well handling platform.
Thanks Mike! That day was so much fun! John is a great driver and formidable opponent (and a super cool dude). I left it all out there and don’t feel like I did the car a disservice by being the one behind the wheel. The CTR is simply a faster car for track work. I got to drive one after this and am very impressed by how fast they are. On paper, the cars are similar in weight and power but they don’t feel very similar from behind the wheel. No regrets with the GR4, though. I didn’t get it thinking it would be a good track car and currently loving rallycross where it absolutely shines!
GR weights more 3,265 type R 3,190 GR has less hp 300 type R 315 GR 10.88 lbs/ hp R 10.12 lbs/hp This factor likely makes a difference (perhaps 2 seconds-:)???
@@shikinami0297 What you mean? Lol! It's a clean wide body look. People have different taste in their style but if you don't like it, keep it to yourself.
@@marcorsxwhitebro that shit looks like the most basic commuter car they are just playing y’all and your falling for it. That thing makes no power either stop excepting the trash they put out
@@repingers9777 Right, lets disregard all the Honda engineers who designed the suspension strictly for the racer enthusiast, not some mass market commuter car.
I'd say the biggest factor is the proper wheel HP of the 2 cars, even though the GR is AWD, the Civic had more HP to the ground so it pulled away in the straights, that all adds up after a few straights. If this were a tighter track I think the GR would have been much closer or would have won. Oh and CW's sure do help with confidence and those longer sweeping turns to keep speed.
I own an FL5 so I am probably biased but every timed track comparison I’ve seen the CTR has been faster. I am still a big fan of the GR Corolla and would be proud to own one.
I wonder if you switch drivers if the result would’ve been the same ? It looks like the Corolla was pushing in the turn a little. My daily driver. 2013 Ford focus ST running 265 35 18 I am 62-year-old autocross 20 years ago running a you’re gonna laugh at 96 dodge neon ran it in the street modified first place end-of-the-year points ..
@@van_der_lindeDA That subjective bro, I ALREADY DID, I work at Honda. To me it's the FK8 its way better imho. To each his own I guess. Glad you liked it though.
@@cooleye7007 to say the fk8 is way better makes no sense to me, driving the fl5 for 2km you will realize it is better, why would honda produce a model that is way worse than it's predecessor? But you right...each to their own.
@@van_der_lindeDA YOU REALIZED WE HAVE DIFFERENT OPINION ?? WHATS GOOD FOR YOU DOESNT MEAN IT'LL BE THE SAME RESULT FOR MY LIKING LOL. BESIDES THIS NEW VS PREVIOUS THING HAPPENS A LOT IN CAR INDUSTRIES ALL THE TIME LOL. NEWER DOESNT MEAN SHIT ONLY TIME CAN TELL. A LOT OF US FK8 OWNERS ARE STICKING TO IT AND DID NOT WANT TO TRADE. BUT AS A HONDA GUY ALL MY 50 PLUS YEARS I KNOW WHAT I KNOW. WHEN SOMEONE TRIES TO TELL ME OTHERWISE NOW THAT DOESNT MAKE SENSE TO ME. TO EACH HIS OWN, YOUR OPINION IS SUBJECTIVE. SIMPLE
Loads of reason civic is quicker here the civic is lower and more sleek that probably makes less drag for starters, more power better suspension, worst comparison is having different drivers tho if you want to compare cars atleast put the same driver in each preferably a racing driver or some type.
Pretty Sweet but I really can't believe there was no mention of the AWD system failing in the Corolla due to heat. Seems like it's the car's biggest enemy
My husby wants that new GR Corolla but I can’t get past the price and the fact that it’s a C-Rolla!!! One of my first car was my mamas 1998 Corolla that still runs today and we call her granny panties. All jokes aside, he can get it if he trades in his 2017 86 but he’s trying to finesse me into getting a “faster” Toyota to add to his collection.
Faster for sure on Civic. The Honda Civic has coil overs and the Honda is wider base. But corolla looks lighter. Some coil.overs, front and rear strut bars. And lighter wheels will make a big difference.
@@magicwaffl3zCan confirm this is a Core model as it doesn’t have the Carbon Fiber Roof or the Larger Spoiler. Not that it matters much if you have all the packages of the Circuit.
I’d like to see how my slightly modded ‘19 stinger does against the type R. Def should pull on the straights and out of the corners. I’m wondering if those guys swapped rides what the outcome would be? Think the GR would still be 2 sec behind?
Crazy to think that a stock Elantra N would come and run a faster time than the FL5 and GRC in the most recent head to head y’all did. LOL. It took the FK8 being tuned on 275’s to be only 1 second ahead. That’s pathetic for the type-R honestly
There’s. No point to compare the GR Corolla with the Honda type R because Honda is a superior machine ! The Corolla is just a Toyota (point a to b vehicle) with some performance upgrades !
Honda yetkilileri 2lt, 4 silindir +400hp ,7 ileri düz vitese sahip,4wd&4ws bir Civic üretme zamanı gelmedi mi ? Eskiden en sevdiğim marka Honda idi şimdiyse tam tersi !
