The new CR-V is finally here guys! We’ll be driving one in Nashville, next month so stay tuned for our full driving impressions review later this summer! What do you all think of the new look?
I definitely like it. I wasn’t a big fan of the previous CR-V proportions, it kinda looked like a minivan. I bet I’ll be seeing a ton of these as soon as they’re released.
Bravo Sofyan! You presented us with two trim presentation. The mandatory top of the line trim and the base trim that almost no one reviews as all car reviewers are fed the top trims by default by the manufacturer. The base trim usually looks nothing like the top trim when you buy a car but few people end up buying the top trim car so it is good to see what the base buck version looks like.
It looks really good. Maybe it's just me but it reminds me a little of the CX-5 from certain angles, which is not a bad thing. It looks more upscale without being too showy. I'm sure that it will continue to sell in high volumes.
I like this redesign all around. I've never been a fan of Honda's interiors at all. That's one of the main reasons why I've never purchased one, but I would totally buy the sport touring trim. It's super sharp all around and I love the color as well.
Finally! I’ve been waiting too long for Honda to finally ditch their boring designs. Simple yet aggressive! That sport touring is what I’ve been waiting for. I can’t wait to see what the pilot looks like. I’m definitely going to trade my 21 CR-V in for that one. Also, I love your shoes, Sofyan!
And this design is STILL boring compared to the Honda Breeze or the Avancier. Weak sauce from Honda this side, acting as though we're being given their best.
@@LXNL Hey, I understand, but I’ll take it compared to what they’ve been rolling out these past few generations. I personally just want something simple with a few tech upgrades.
It is definitely edgy and more aggressive. I love the interior and rims especially in the sport touring trim. Imo the head lights remind me of Mazda in the way they are shaped not necessarily how they look. Also easy tune ups 👌.
I have owned a 3rd gen (2009) and currently a 4th gen (2015). Im liking everything that the new crv is bringing to the table except for the no flat load floor and that the hybrid can only tow 1/2 a ton. The 3rd gen had the true flat load floor and the 4th attempted to be flat but there was no hump unlike the newest gen. It may be minor but moving boxes and other equipment, it becomes a hinderance.
The fact that they haven't added ventilated seats to the touring trim is very frustrating. I was hopeful since the Toyota RAV4 has them that maybe Honda would at least try and compete by adding this one feature that most people expect on a top trim level vehicle
Not including panoramic roof, HUD and some sought of ambient lighting even as options in the cabin is a missed opportunity, nevertheless I'm pleased with this and it makes my shopping list 😊
Better looking vehicle, better tech. I do like the new CR-V. I just wish they offered a panoramic sunroof. ALL mainstream competitors, Toyota, Nissan and even Mazda offer it on their vehicles. Still, a nice improvement.
Mazdas CX-50 has panoroof, but i think there is no ventilated seats option.. CX-5 didn't have a panoroof but maybe the next redesign will have it. For sure it'll get ventilated seats again.
@@lionintu I'm fine with the no ventilated seats thing. The majority of compact SUVs (tho not all) don't have it. But ALL competitors except Honda USA have a panoramic sunroof on their compact SUVs (yes, the Forester's manual opening sunroof is panoramic). The CX-5 doesn't have a pano-roof but the CX-50, similarly sized to the CX-5, has a panoramic sunroof. I suspect the CX-5 will be axed in favor of the CX-50 but I'm not sure tbh.
New look aside, many manufacturers strip features off popular models to save money or charge them as options. Someone at Honda decided the CRV brand is strong enough that they can do whatever they want and most people that want a CRV will still buy it.
I think that honeycomb dash will be a huge dust magnet and I'm not a fan of those black wheels but I'm glad they don't have the push button shifter that nobody was asking for
@@kristians2704 nah. This is a class leading vehicle just tied with the Koreans This absolutely blows the rav4 out of the water in just about every category as is typical with Honda So the crv is totally fine
What about the 1.5L turbo oil dilution problem. No mention of that issue being addressed. This appears to be the very same 1.5L turbo. Love the new interior and exterior, but, still concerned that Honda has not fixed the dilution problem.
It’s perfect, wish the rear turn signals were LED but I can live without it. Hopefully it’s not too much more expensive then before, planning on getting a ex-l trim
Yeah, in this day and age every trim of every car should have all led lighting all around. It's cheap technology and far superior. It makes no sense not to use them everywhere.
Me personally I prefer a regular incandescent bulb from the factory, and I will swap out to a good quality LED bulb myself. Replacing a whole tail light or headlight is not fun compare to a bulb.
@@mr.grumps3544 When the previous gen had a LED turn signal and then they downgrade to a regular old incandescent it really makes you wonder what exactly was their thought process there.
Perfect timing! I was looking at cars to buy and saw the current CR-V and thought it’s time for them to update it! Then I opened RU-vid to find this video
I love how Honda is keeping the physical gear lever and not following the trend of dial gear selector! Honda’s design and reliability is the reason I love them!
I like the re-design-outside looks good and sportier, and for the most part inside looks better and I’m glad they did away with the push button transmission. But, no pano roof or digital dash on upper trims is crazy (unless they plan to be less than ALL the competition). You can get that on an Escape, on a Rav4, Nissan Rogue etc. Also they should have increased gas engine HP. They made it larger but still same engine. The rogue got smaller but now it’s 201hp. Basically they are forcing you to get the hybrid upper trims if you want any semblance of pep.
Honestly I do t want a pano roof. I had a hero with one one time and every time I drove out in the country , things would fall off the trees and hit the glass.
"Eye Candy" is the best way I can described these vehicles, so many little stylish accents to take note of. Loving the overall design philosophy of Hondas in this generation, it's the best in awhile
I'm liking the exterior and some of the upgrades on to the interior. however I'm extremely baffled as to why they downgraded the turn signal to a regular old incandescent when the old gen has full LED and then there's no lever to fold down the seat which the previous generation had. Can't even say they're cutting corners since this one will be more expensive than the previous generation.
@@antoinevermette8769 they cut them, because their market research shows in the US those features aren’t as utilized or ordered by dealers. It’s the same reason the new civic SI in the us does not come with vented seats or a heated steering wheel, but in Canada they are available. They assume cutting them will not affect their bottom lines
just saying the base trim of the last CRV had halogen headlights. It totally makes no sense as the reverse lights are LED here and I'd gladly take those being incandescent as opposed to the turn signals since they're used so little. Also it's senseless they don't even switch them up to LED in the more expensive trims
@@shivamarya5225 you're right, I actually was gonna ramble on and on about 60's 70's American Car dashes embracing the "horizontal". At the time, the real fun was happening with the Saab, driver centered, aircraft inspired interiors. I think the minimal Tesla model 3 interiors had first time viewers in disbelief that it wasn't an unfinished prototype. It sent a zig message to everyone else's zag. I'm happy for shakeup. Wouldn't it be great to be a fly on the wall at internal car design presentations? That would be very insightful.
@@keithartworker interesting take but I do feel like concept interiors has always been minimalsitc. It was was only the manufacturing and cost constrains and the buttons and vents that made them more cluttered but also useable, but the thing I like with Honda's new one interiors is that they're minimalistic but doesent do away with any buttons or practicality to make it so, everything is not put on a screen which does reduce a lot of weight and manufacturing time which is also what tesla was after
@@shivamarya5225 Agreed. Honda's cleverly tight slogan in the 70's was:"We make it Simple." (Works on many levels). It appears that are tipping their cap to that heritage.
The new CR-V looks sharp! My only issue is with the rear incandescent turn signals-does anyone know why Honda designs things this way? Is this like a circuitry limitation or something? Kinda reminds me of cars that have power windows in the front & crank windows in the back lol. My 2020 Accord is similar where all lighting is LED…except for the rear turn signal bulbs. For continuity’s sake, I wish they’d go all LED. Incandescent bulbs feel super antiquated lol.
ventilated seats are must have for many states like CA, TX, FL, these are states with high population, I wonder why would Honda just ignore the demand.
I'm in Canada. Both our current vehicles have vented seats. I'm not downgrading. Once you have vented seats you don't go backward. Huge disappointment Honda
The sunroof reminds me of those aftermarket pop up roofs from the 1980's-1990's that dealers used to install - how ridiculous of Honda to offer this. Also not having the ventilated seat option is a mistake. One other mistake is that if they really wish to increase their Hybrid sales, they need to offer that package across all variants. All in all a great family SUV/Crossover.
Looks more like my first Gen. It actually looks like it’s capable to roll off-road without being beat up first bed of rocks it covers. All of the “not sure why Honda didn’t include that” is cost cutting to stay competitive.
I agree with the latter part of your statement…”i don’t know why (any manufacturers) didn’t include that”every car maker must do a form of cost cutting to stay competitive
Wow! Well done Honda....this is a HUGE improvement over the current generation CRV. However, the new tail lights are a tad bit similar to that of the new CX-5 re-design as well...interesting, not a bad move ha! Great review as always!
Hyundai and Kia are killing Honda. Honda is compromised by not offering certain amenities because they’re worried about stealing sales away from their Acura counterparts. the top of this trim should be a 360 camera, interior accent lighting, cooled seats, rear seat heating, panoramic glass roof, full digital display, head-up display and whatever else you can think of that Hyundai and Kia are offering for similar pricing.
I love how simple they keep things with trim levels, but they really need to start adding package options too. I feel Honda is pushing people towards Acura for more sales. Unfortunately, people are just going somewhere else.
I agree that Hyundai and Kia offer more, for less. Honda is "resting on their laurels and good reputation", while being passed up by others. Good example: Customers were promised "details" on July 12, and Honda gave customers half, or less, of what we want. We want prices, fuel economy, dates to when we can expect cars at dealer, none of which we got. Instead, we got pictures of the outside and inside without prices, fuel economy, or the rest of the details we need to make a decision. Honda over promised "details on July 12", and under delivered. Instead, Honda needs to promise less, deliver more.
@@daebak7370 I owned a 2006 CRV (best vehicle Honda ever built IMO), pretty, classic simple design and then they came out with... a turtle, lol. Don't get me wrong I'm a Honda guy, I've owned more than 10 Hondas and love them and drive a CRV today. Look at the last 2 gens of civics, holy crap, wtf was up with the awkward lines, plastic thingamabobs on the civic hatchback rear bumpers and or 2014 front end, damn....?! Look at the 2006 civic 2 door sedan, ageless beautiful and classic in comparison to the last one IMO.
No cooled seats is actually a deal breaker for me. My current 2021 CX5 grand touring reserve has cooled seats so getting the new CRV would be a downgrade. Sad because I’d love to get back into a Honda but my Mazda continues to beat the competition. Performed-wise too. Can’t go wrong with 280 horse power turbocharged AWD performance.
@@NileshR12 ah you’re right. Yes 250 not 280. 😣 but boy does it feel like 280 when that boost kicks in. If only Honda would put the civic type r engine in a CRV. 😲
will this be the same cr-v for canada? i hope they add the pano roof and heated/ventilated seats. are the new ones come with heared steering wheel too?
The only thing I dislike is the fact that the rear turn signals are incandescent bulbs when the current generation model is full LED. Other than that it looks amazing
Honda seems to be lagging for a while now. They’ve got dated and small screens compared to the rest of the market. Still no panoramic sunroof, no ac seats, no Nav in the cluster, no 360° camera. Unfortunate to see. & this comment is from a disappointed perspective, not a “hater” perspective - I’ve owned ‘02 accord v6, ‘05 civic, ‘02 RSX, ‘92 civic hatch, ‘09 civic Si, ‘14 accord V6 (current). Was hoping these next gens would be the time to upgrade. Might need to switch brands finally. Nice overview - you’re doing great work. Long time subscriber .
You won a subscriber by talking about styling while showing off what turn signals look like. I know it's a simple thing, but I really like to know what turn signals look like. I'm opposed to monochromatic turn signals so I avoid them like the plague. Very few Honda vehicles have them and instead use amber signals (which I personally believe should be a legal mandate) but it's still awesome that you showed it front and back.
Almost all of the competition has this as well as panoramic roof. Should be a 12 inch infotainment with updated graphics as well, but no. Typical Honda, dated before it’s even released. Makes my decision to go Toyota fairly easy.
This design is extremely handsome, dare I say best in segment without being overstyled. But no ventilated seats and pano moonroof is unacceptable. Copy and paste civic interior is lazy imo.
I like it, but there are small details that are a downgrade from my 2018. The wheels are not as modern looking, yeah I get why they got rid of foglights but they are still a nice feature, the quick seat latches are really nice when your hands are full, and the driver display
Touring has power back door lift but doesn't have foot sensor lift? I have the 2016 CR-V EX and that was the most annoying thing is I have to get my remote out just to open the back after a Sam Club/ Costco trip.
The CR-V seems like it will sell, but I think the progress doesn't seem like too much from the previous generation. The rear incandescent turn signals really irk me. They should have went with a full digital display and no "ipad" center console sticking out. Little touches could have really made this a perfect CRV.
@@marcus79nyc the 2.4 wasn't never turbo it better to have a non turbo cause by a turbo can lead to damage and cost money. Now if you want the 1.5 turbo that's the one you want but the question is have they fixed the oil dilution issues for the 1.5 turbo
@@johnathanwoodley5005 30 year master mechanic here. I can confirm with 100% accuracy that it’s not fixed. A software update merely reduced its instances of occurring.
My wife and I currently have the 2017 CRV.. the interior space is amazing and it’s a great road trip car. We really do like it..However I worry about the same issue we have with our current CRV if we were to buy an new CRV. We have major electrical issues which has caused me to get 2 new batteries in 5 years and a serious problem with our collision braking mitigation system. It comes on and brakes the car without necessity. It’s a dangerous problem as it will slam on the brakes throwing us forward which has caused some minor injuries. I have to turn that feature off when driving as to avoid being paranoid about it going off again. It’s become such an issue that we’re pursuing legal action. I hope it’s been fixed 🤦🏻♂️
I have a 2017 CRV touring. The factory battery lasted until earlier this year. Zero issue with the driver assist system, engine, or anything else. Actually, about the only complaint/unexpected service was that the factory tires lasted only 40,000 miles.
@@dreadlord76 lol man they must have seen me and said let’s give this couple the messed up CRV lol… I not only changed the factory battery twice, the Kumho tires were replaced at 25k miles. Such a shame cuz we really do like the car, we just hit our limit with all our issues…
The Canadian version will have the panoramic roof as they did in the previous modle, let's see if Honda decides to offer the hybrid version this time for the CRV in Canada 🇨🇦 😉
The previous gen had LED turn signals front and back lol. Why do manufacturers still insist on keeping 1 or 2 incandescent bulbs instead of full LED already.
Clean and simple design! The reclining backseat is big bonus too! A question though: is the light at the bottom of the backseat Honda's, or is it Redline's light to make the review more bright?
LOL!! Wow, they’ve had all these years and they’re STILL outdated as hell and the competition still destroys them. I’m SO glad I went with the redesigned 2022 Tucson Hybrid Limited! - No pano roof (Tucson has it) - No 360 cam (Tucson has it. Inexcusable not to have it at this point. Over a decade old feature in all other brands now.) - No cooled seats (Tucson has it) - Only a 9” infotainment screen (Tucson has a gorgeous widescreen 10.25”. Can even get a 12” on the new Kia Sportage) - Only offers half digital, half analog gauge cluster - No fully digital gauge cluster. (Again, Tucson has this. Even the new Civic does)
@@zarbon700 Nope! The new Tucson Hybrid has been very reliable. Plus the 10 yr warranty will take care of any potential issues, which I doubt I’ll have any. This is my third Hyundai and I’ve never had issues. I take great care of them and they take great care of me. Best features and styling and value for the money!
One thing that Korean twins lack is wireless carplay for the bigger screen, somehow, they can’t even figure out how to incorporate wireless function to the bigger screen, which is laughable after all these years, pretty much every other brands have wireless carplay nowadays.
Honestly as nice as it is, I think your money is better spent on a Kia Sportage sx prestige hybrid. At 36k your getting more power, more safety features, drivers assist features, better interior, large sunroof, leagues better tech and still have great reliability.
