In the process of creating my photo book for 2023, I found I really enjoyed looking back at the photos from the year with a bit of time and emotional distance. One benefit for me in reviewing photos is to look for patterns in the photos I most like - what they have in common in subject, composition and "vibe." Another benefit is seeing (hopefully!) signs of growth in creating photos that tell the stories I want to share. And finally, this time of reflection and review offers an opportunity to consider strategies for future photos.
I'd love to know your process and thoughts on reviewing photos. How often do you take time to review and reflect on your photography? What do you learn in the process?

Wes Anderson said something like, “life is in the details.” I post a photo a day, Today’s moment of Zen, and I think some of my worst and best photos come from the days I’ve run out of photos and I’m walking around the house looking for something to shoot. I love trees and birds so those were favorites but the tree branches with the building under construction beyond it is my absolute favorite. They are all wonderful.

Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts. I agree about working to creat something everyday. Some days will be awesome and some will be awful. But, they all will be learning opportunities. Here’s to a happy holiday season and a wonderful 2024!

Thanks so much for sharing! Thanks for honest thoughts behind all your pictures! Good idea to keep not only the image but the thoughts and feelings from that moment and day. So I will start my own photo diary to keep these thoughts and not only the date and location...

Very nice collection of images (and inspiring), I should stop with the iguanas and start doing some street “stuff”. Be well and stay safe Michael.

Thanks so much, Enrique! My opinion is to create photos of what you enjoy. So, if you’re enjoying photographing iguanas, keep at it 😉 Having said that, I talked to the other street photographers, and we’d love for you to join us. Take care!

@@MSladekPhoto Thank you Michael, I would love to join you for street photography (or doughnuts) but the drive from Fort Lauderdale to Washington is kind of long😂

@@Enrique-the-photographer It IS a looooong drive. Even flying takes a long time. So, maybe try street photography in Fort Lauderdale and let us know how it goes? Happy holidays!
