I've purchased first soul ,an 2010 for my son 4 years ago. Still running with no issues, and last year I sold my 2019 HRV and bought myself a brand new Soul EX Premium. Let me tell you something, you can't go wrong with Soul. Love them .
Agreed I had a used 2016 Kia soul for about four years I financed through drive time it drove from l.a to chino six days a week before I began to have issues with it then just last year I got a brand new 2023 Kia soul g.t line only got to drive it for 10,000 miles without a oil change it worked perfectly fine no issues but last month I had gotten into a horrible accident a police officer hit my soul and basically ripped the front of my soul completely off and 20feet away from where the collision occurred 😢 I should be dead my soul saved my life my car caught on fire it was horrific this month I got another brand new Kia soul g.t line I love them the gas mileage the space inside how easy it is to handle and the safety features I will only ever drive souls I don’t understand the hate buy them new is the best route in my opinion they have amazing warranties and deals in case anything goes wrong with it for as long as I live or god forbid they decide to discontinue them😢😢
this man is a TRIP. he delivers his information in one unbroken sentence... staring dead ahead (eyes on the road of course)... and then, when he's done... tosses a bit of side-eye as he looks at the camera... as if to say... "got it, bitch?" that said, VERY informative, objective and good info that I think a lot will find helpful.
I have just bought a 2024 Kia Soul GT-line with the "wimpy" 2.0 liter 4-cyl. Friends, this car is a sleeper: especially in "sport" mode, this things goes like stink. I LOVE the CV transmission, torque is available instantly (no turbo spool up) and no complicated, expensive 8-sp. dual clutch tranny. The car is solid, quiet, and eats up the freeways. It's a great daily driver: compact, solid and good-looking.
I've had my new Soul GT-line since the end of February. I'm quite happy with it. A very smooth, quiet, comfortable drive. If I have any complaint . . . it's that there's too much technology for my taste. I'm a not very techy sorta guy in my 70's. . . and lack the curiousity to learn.
I just sold my 2010 Kia Soul after 13 years of use as the original owner. I put over 300000km on the car. With minimal repairs up until the end, it certainly help it’s end of the bargain. I was going to buy another, but went with the 2023 Seltos instead. Likely going to keep it 10+ years as well. Kia’s finance rates are way better than all other companies right now, which just make the car much more affordable.
Kia’s dual clutch is one of the worst in existence. The new Seltos has gotten rid of it due to poor customer feedback and replaced it with a standard automatic.
My daughter has a 2016 Soul that we paid off and gave to her and the wife has a 2021 Seltos. They both love them. they were both inspected by a dealer we trust with a good reputation and checked out OK, so they are free of the engine defects. All our cars are owned. I don't like being in debt forever so I don't lease. I did it once and never will again. Zero car payments a month beats any other price per month.
@@Slavic_Boer I can't comment on my daughter's Soul because she has her own house with my Son-In Law so I don't maintain it anymore, but I can say with certainty that my wife's Seltos has had no issues burning oil at this point.
I purchased a 2022 Soul new. It has 42,000 miles on it, it's my office and it's been great. Oil and filter every 5,000 miles replaced tires at 30,000 comfortable good tech. No recalls, no issues so far.
Maybe with all the safety features, the Korean twins should add extinguishers that deploy under the hood when temps exceed 400 degrees. All the safety features do not matter if your car is burning on the roadside.
I've had 3 Soul's since they first went on sale in the USA. They have been trouble free and a pleasure to drive. When I bought my latest Soul a 2023 Soul EX, I noticed there were not many in stock so I had few color choices. I get the feeling Kia may be considering discontinuing the Soul. Whatever happens I have enjoyed my Kia Soul's and I recommend the car.
The Soul by far, the Seltos looks like just another boring SUV. I'll be with Kia as long as they keep making the Soul. I am saving for a 2024 Kia Soul if they make one here in Canada.
In INDIA seltos gets 1.4 turbo petrol, 1.5 NA Petrol and 1.5 diesel.. the 1.5 diesel is pretty bullet proof and we get same options in hyindai creta too.
The Soul used to be a reliable car until Kia went with an IVT transmission. I'm on my second Soul (2020), which has said transmission. The transmission failed at 3 years and a little over 50000. Transmission was replaced under warranty. New transmission didn't even last 500 miles. The IVT has been a continuing problem for the Soul. One the main complaints on the Kia Soul Form is the transmission failure. Until they solve the problems with the IVT transmission, I will never purchase another Kia. In addition, if it's anything other than routine maintenance, your car will be held in Kia purgatory for who know how long while things get sent up and down the techline chain.
I use to have a 2021 kia soul lx all black it was pretty solid but i fell behind on the payments and it got impounded 2 months ago mine's had a little over 28,000 miles on it and i had it for about 2 years before it got impounded i just fell behind on the payments but i never had a problem with mine but the payments were to high in my opinion thats the only problem i had
@@davidgreen4282 Didn't have any problems with it until the transmission gave out. Never had any problems with the 2011 until 8 years and about 130,000 miles but by then I was planning to replace it anyway with a newer model. It's the first vehicle I ever owned where I wanted another one. Kept up with all the maintenance on both. The thing with the IVT, which has been in since 2020 model year, is it's a crapshoot. You may get a long life out of it but it can just as easily give up the ghost before 50,000 miles. Per Kia Soul Forum, even 2022 models are still having issues with that IVT. For me more than anything, it's the customer service if it's anything other than routine maintenance. They treat their loyal customers like crap.
@@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 I'm in my 60s and have always driven budget vehicles. Never had a transmission problem with any of them and they all made it over 100,000 miles. Heck, even my first Soul made it over 100,000 miles before I started having issues but at that point, I was planning to buy another vehicle anyway. Don't run your mouth about something you don't know anything about. You don't know anything about how I drive.
Thank you for the important information. I would prefer long term reliability than fancy comforts inside the car. Would they be making hybrids and electric in these vehicles ?
I found a 2016 Kia soul online in 2020 since then I’ve only ever really wanted to own a Kia soul last year I upgraded to a brand new 2023 Kia soul g.t line and I loved it but a month ago now I was involved in a horrible accident with the police basically they ripped the fender of my Soul off it was found like 20 feet away from the rest of my soul after I stopped spinning from the impact it caught on fire 😢 the police cruiser looked almost untouched I got my brand new 2024 Kia soul g.t line with a tech package a week ago I love it the new l.e.d lights in the foot well on the passenger side is a nice touch to my new soul ❤ I love souls honestly I don’t get the hate they have amazing gas mileage, safety features, the space inside you can’t beat it especially for a compact car my 2023 soul hadn’t had an oil change in a while and it had like 10,000 miles on it I had no problems with it at all that and I had it for almost a year before the accident I wish people would just test drive or rent a soul to see the absolute “steal” you are getting for this amazing compact car if not it’s just more souls for me and my fellow soul lovers 😂😂😂😂 but honestly there is way too many souls out in the world for souls to be such a horrible car I’ve seen really old souls and they seem to be working just fine if I wasn’t in that accident I would’ve kept my 2023 g.t line Kia soul until I paid it off then probably buy another one my partner doesn’t like compact cars then I let him drive my 2023 soul and he loved it 😂
Bear in mind that the 2024+ Seltos (and Hyundai Kona, it's mechanical twin) are ditching the DCT for new 8-speed normal automatics which, so far, are showing to be superior in every way, without the downsides.
2023 KIA Soul acceleration is very usable daily capability, the 2.0 engine and CVT sturdy consistency is obvious. Some CVT vehicles may require driver operating knowledge to function better, the KIA CVT functions well not requiring driver knowledge to function better.
Does the back lay flat? USB ports in back seat- Soul? Price? But I really enjoy this reviewer. He's definitely not boring like others are. But is the Seltos larger inside?
Thank you. I just turned in a leased 2021 Seltos EX, and because of the low inventory, had to downgrade to a Soul LX with the technology package. Prices have significantly increased since I first leased the Seltos, and I am now paying $50 per month more for the Soul than I was paying for the Seltos, which, if it was available, would have been in the $400s per month. I am happy with the Soul as of now, but hope to get back into a Seltos or, if affordable, a larger model at the end of this 36-month lease. But despite the slightly smaller size of the Soul, it is quite roomy. Great indication of that is that my Seltos all-weather floor mats, fit perfectly in the Soul. In terms of recalls, I have owned and leased various other vehicles from different manufacturers, and have never had a vehicle that wasn't recalled at least once for something significant.
If you're keeping your vehicle you NEED weatherTech's all weather floormats they help to protect your investment. and while at it get their windshield sun shield as well they're both custom made for a perfect fit.
For some unexplained reason possibly temporarily insanity I bought a new Kia Soul in 2016. It was possibly the worst car I had ever owned. I was a victim of the engine issues that were mentioned in this video. My 2.0 liter direct injection engine suffered catastrophic failure at 70,000 miles. Luckily Kia did honor the 100k mile powertrain warranty and they fitted the car with a remanufactured engine. I traded the car in within two weeks of getting it back. I could not in good conscience recommend a Kia Soul to anyone.
Lots of misinformation in this video, probably because half the time it seems like your videos heavily rely on online info and aren't fact-checked. First off, the base engine in the Seltos is not the one in the recalls. It uses a Nu 2.0L Atkinson Cycle engine (G4NH) which is a Nu MPi engine. The recall was for the Nu GDi engine, and mainly the Theta II engines. Secondly, while the Corolla Cross does have more cargo/cabin space when the rear seats are folded, it has less rear legroom with the seats up. And it doesn't even have more cargo/cabin space if it's the AWD model. Pretty useless video for potential car buyers if they've done any kind of actual research. And even if they haven't this just provides incorrect info.
What are you talking about? The 2021 Seltos with the 2.0L engine was recalled for piston rings that were not properly heat treated and could lead to total engine failure or fire. 150,000 cars were recalled. There were multiple recalls involving multiple engine problems with different Kia engines all of which led to failures and fires.
One thing potential buyers need to look at IF you're tendency is to retain vehicles is how many miles/year are you gonna put on it? I'm retired and don't make many long trips anymore and therefore I rarely drive more than about 5k miles/year. But IF you put the average of 12k miles/year on you may wanna consider alternatives like Toyota. Finally nowadays you need to pay in cash if possible as interest and insurance costs are nasty. Finally learn how to drive! Most people cannot drive for shit. Smooth driving is a must on these cheaper vehicles or maintenance is gonna be nightmare. He's talking performance as well. Tell you what 8 seconds to 60 mph is plenty fast enough. I drive a 7.3 diesel and it takes forever to get to 60 but I still have no issues merging with interstate traffic.
The engine in my 2015 KIA Sorento blew at 109k in 2018. KIA replaced it and provided a rental car for the 6 weeks. Got 200k on vehicle now, still a great vehicle. I'll buy another KIA, probably a Soul. Can't find anything else I like. Don't like spending on cars.
I own a Kia Soul 2021 and so far so good. Great fuel economy, one of the best CVTs I’ve ever drove, seats are pretty comfortable and interior space is amazing. My son is going to college next year and I’m considering buying a new one for him. Great video by the way.
Maybe this video should have a note added where the dual clutch is discussed, as the current Seltos has a new automatic transmission for its 1.6 turbo.
Not been a recall since 2021. Also have the vehicle warranty as well as own insurance to fall back on. For me, at worst, would be a $500 payment to replace the engine and more due to other damages.

You're the first person to give an unfavorable review of these cars; especially the Kia Seltos. Most other reviewers have "good stuff" to say about the Seltos. I need to do more research before buying.
Ignore this auto journalist review, change your oil when required and don't heavy foot drive these KIA/Hyundai budget vehicles and you will be alright........
My 2021 consumes too much oil but when kia put their own oil in to do the 1,000 mile check the engine did not burn as much oil. So, when I have to add the oil, which is just full synthetic like Castrol 5 W 20. It burns more oil as the oil gets dirty and it does get dirty. If I would have been aware I would have checked the oil frequently when I bought it. I like the 2.0 liter engine. It takes paved hills well and is a pretty smooth ride.
I have 2 Kias. The 2015 Foute5 had the engine replaces last year and is doing well. I just bought a 23 Seltos, AWD S Trim, and love it. The soul, on the other hand, is just a sad box on wheels. I do know others that have a soul and are very happy with them. With that said. I have had cars from all over the globe, all cars are money pits. All have good and bad point, no matter who makes them. I bought the Seltos for its' size, AWD, price, trim items, Plus, it's better looking than the soul.
@@moeanthony9308 I agree, but not everyone can afford the asking price of a new Toyota, Honda, and Mazda these days. If you need a car NOW, you have to get the best option you can afford NOW.
@@moeanthony9308 Not necessarily. If you take care of the Kia and don't rag it out and put a lot of miles on it, it will probably be fine. Not all models are equal either. I've heard nothing but good things about the Telluride and that the Rio is a rolling pile of junk.
I use to have a 2021 kia soul lx it was pretty solid but i fell behind on the payments and it got impounded but it had a little over 28,000 miles on it never had any problems with it had it about 2 years before it got impounded but how many miles did your soul have on it before the engine went out and im sorry that happened to you
Considering the negative review on both cars, it sounds like you would be crazy to buy one. I have never seen a review this poor on RU-vid. Why isn’t anyone else reporting these issues?
I use to have a 2021 kia soul lx all black it was pretty solid but i fell behind on the payments and it got impounded 2 months ago never had any problems with it mine's had a little over 28,000 miles on it never had any problems with it i just fell behind on the payments and they impounded it i had for about 2 years before it got impounded it was pretty solid monthy payments be to high in my opinion thats the only problem i had
David you sound like a young man. Look you GOTTA purchase something you can afford! Nowadays is tough due to the high interest rates and NOW you got shit for credit on the repo. You really need to take a step back, stay within budget. Don't purchase on plastic and don't carry balances interest is eating you and it buys you absolutely NOTHING, okay?
A wet dual clutch automatic transmission is longer lasting than a dry one. Ford also had a lot of problems with the dry dual clutch for the Focus and Fiesta. I think the new Sportage looks great, but the reliability is unknown.
