The 2023 Nissan Z Performance ($61,398 as specced in Canada, ~$52,310 in the US) is the newest iteration of the legendary Z sports car; the earliest of which dates back to 1969. It has 400 horsepower from a twin turbo V6, styling inspired by its classic heritage, and for the first time ever - electric power steering. The new Z is looking to be a powerful and stylish sports coupe, capable of going head to head with its competition. Thomas and James give the Z Performance a run down on both the road and the Throttle House test track. We hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for watching! SUBSCRIBE!

This felt like a really balanced review. Most (all?) of the "early" reviews of this car had presenters gush about what a great value this "$40,000" car is while driving the 50k version. It drove me a little bonkers.

kinda similar to how the C8 vette was touted asa sub 60k car but no one bought it at 60k everyone bought 80k spec... but at least with C8 most performance bits were included in the base price (Z51 pckge including a very modest power bump + wing)

Throttle House reminds me of Top Gear from the mid 2000s. Visually pleasing video production, humor thoughtfully mixed in, lap times, quirky hosts that each have their own distinct charisma. But what makes them so reminiscent of Clarkson, Hammond, and May is that they’re genuine friends hanging out, and we are there to hang with them by watching the videos
@PsychoCPU
@PsychoCPU 2 года назад
I think that's why all the versions of Top Gear since have missed the mark. The hosts aren't friends, even if they claim they are. You can tell there is a lack of connection, most things feel forced, which leads to jokes falling flat. Tomas and James, like the guys at savagegeese, are the spiritual successors to Top Gear without even meaning to, simply because they are real friends who are smart enough to not mess with a formula that works.

Agree, although I disagree with the "supra is a lot more expensive" argument. The supra 3.0 version starts at 53k, and even an A91 Manual is 58k... If you can get one anywhere near msrp that is. If you can afford 50k, 8k more probably isn't going to break the bank.

The reason most are going to want a car like this over a Camaro is the power potential. $3k in bolt-ons and tuning on e85 gets you 600rwhp. Be lucky to get 500rwhp with the same mods for the Camaro. Then turbo swaps are about $3k. Blowers run about $7k if you install it yourself, plus tuning.

Look at camaro forums, either way how tf do you know anything about this new engine when its barely been out, ain’t no one I’ve seen done any experimenting on it so you are literally bullshitting, not to mention its twin turbo’d and only making 400 hp it’s also the one of the bigger v6’s Nissan has put in a z so

I briefly owned a 1994 300ZX TT. It was a heavy car with somewhat soft springs and rear tires that didn't have quite enough grip. It was scary at the limit, especially in the rain. I know that we went through a couple decades where a lot of American sports cars were built by accountants more than engineers, but I think we've passed that time and American sports cars can go toe-to-toe with some of the best European and Japanese cars. Sure you're not going to get a hand-built Pagani, but you're going to get a really bang for your buck, capable machine that's not overly pretentious.

My first car was a 79 280zx, followed by a 76 280z. I have been looking forward to this car because it looks like a proper Z. However most reviews say the same thing, its heavy, more of a gt, falls apart at the limit. So I bought a Neptune blue gr86 and it feels like the spiritual successor to my 79 280zx. Edit* as of 8-18-22 I have finally driven the new Z. Here are my thoughts. You can clearly see parts of different generation Z influences in its styling both inside and out. It’s fast but that’s a given. The suspension is softer than expected and if you want a GT car then this is your car. At 5’11 I would not be able to wear a helmet for track days so that’s a bummer as the seating position is really high even when the seat is in its lowest position. At its base price of $40k it’s a bargain but the example I drove was almost $54k and at that price the Supra sounds better and is quicker although I still don’t forgive the montage of fake vents. Plus in my opinion the new Z looks better but looks are subjective. At the end of the day I am just glad the new Z, Supra, BRZ, GR86, Miata, C8, Cayman, Mustang, and Camaro exist. The right answer is choose one, drive it and love it. I chose the GR86 which one did you get?

Camaro was never slept on bro. Every journalist love it. Go back to 2016 and just look at the awards it's won over the years. Motor Trend COTY. C&D 10 Best for how many years. It was only slept on consumers who hate living with it. As an owner, you know what I mean. Shit visibility and crappy interior space. Doesn't matter for people who are buying Camaro as a sportscar, but it's not great for high volume 3.6 and 2.0T cars that people buy to daily with. Mustang and Challenger always won that battle, hence why they are smoking GM in sales, and why Camaro faces end of line.
@ScionCrush
@ScionCrush 2 года назад
@@jamesmin2837 We could argue day and night why the Camaro is failing in sales and we'd both be right, but I've only ever seen Motortrend and Randy Pobst bring up the Camaro after they review it, other reviewers do a video on say, say it's great, video gets little views and move on, never brought up in another comparison ever again, consumers don't know specifically what the 1LE trim is which is what I was referring, of course everyone knows about the Camaro and you can call me biased but I feel it's a car that should be brought up at every opportunity in the same way the GT350 is.
@jamesmin2837
@jamesmin2837 2 года назад
@@ScionCrush That's because enhanced handling / braking doesn't exactly sell views. People like hits for their content, and most people don't care to hear rambles about SS 1LE. It's a lot easier to sell the latest Hellcat variant and C8 videos. Not only that, Camaro has ages quite a bit now. With very little changes, and there just isnt much to talk about. Mustang GT PP2 never got its proper due either. It's certainly never even going to be brought up in any comparison test. But Mach1 will and Shelby GT350/GT500 will because it is just more interesting to the viewers.

Thanks for the honest review. I am current rebuilding my 2003 BMW Z4 2.5 (manual 5 speed) and passing it on to my daughter ( She loves the manual transmission) and at the same time looking for a new ride. My priority has been finding a new car that has some power and a manual transmission. I had been looking at the new Z since it has some power, a manual 6 speed transmission and I owned a 280 Z when I was in my late 20's.....and I loved the car. I was disappointed during the review when you called attention to the grinding issue (going into 2nd gear) with new Z's 6 speed the transmission. I have been concerned that I would not find a decent car with a manual transmission before everything becomes Electric. Then I watched your review on the Lotus Emira, it is everything I have been looking for. Power (V6) with a 6 speed manual transmission and a style that makes it look like a Super Car for only twice what the Nissan Z would have cost me. Now the challenge is finding one in the Midwest. Thanks Guys!!!!!

Interesting having the V8 Vantage as your best steering. I've only ever driven one once and it didn't impress me at all in that regard, but it was on track with slicks so not representitive of the car in general. I was there to drift an NA MX-5 too so any steering feels vague after driving one of those! Porsche steering is also top notch, mostly. I've turned into such a steering snob lately though, trying to replace my 981CS and I've test driven about 15 cars...none had great steering at all. Some kind of ok, most poor. Trying a 540i xDrive was a mistake, I think they took the steering rack off the Titanic (after it sank). Luxobarge, but my old Lexus hybrid felt like a Lotus by comparison. Haven't driven a 370Z though, too old for my next car and the fuel cost meant I didn't even consider it over the porker, but I might have to have a go in one just to try that steering 🙂

I was going to say I don't like the BMW interior in the Supra, but then I mentioned the Evora which barely has an interior 😁 Basically I agree with you 100% but while I would place the Supra ahead of the Z, the Supra also wouldn't be top of my list. I'd probably rather have a Porsche, Lotus or Alpine. Perhaps an F-Type. Heck, even a Lexus LC. In that case, Toyota/Lexus is at the minimum equal in brand prestige to BMW/MINI and people find it a shame that the Supra doesn't show off Toyota's fanatical engineering as seen in the GR Corolla, LC500 or LFA.

@@GLedgyt for sure, it was such a good value. Even a decade into production, it was basically the fastest car you could get for the price. 7500 rpm 3.7l V6, excellent 6MT, very raw and communicative, very settled and balanced handling. You just couldn't beat it. The new one has a less inspiring engine, the manual grinds gears, it's more insulated, and it's not settled or balanced at all on a track. A swing and a miss.

Great overview. The current gen Camaro is such an underappreciated car. Too bad they'll be ending it's run in 2024. I'm on my second 2SS and LOVE it. I'm not at all a chevy guy. I'm typically a premium/luxury brand guy (my second cars have been Acura/Lexus/Audi). I enjoy trying all brands and types of cars, and have owned, rented, or test driven Porsches (992, 997, 996, Boxster S), Ferrari F430, BMW M4, Mustangs (GT, V6, EcoBoost, Foxbody 4cyl.)), Corvettes (C6, C7), Audi (A4, A5, S4, S5), Infiniti (G35, G37), Nissan 370z, and many others, but for me the Camaro is one of my all-time favorites. So incredibly fun to drive. It has an amazing mix of power, roar, and handling, with lots of modern creature comforts.

Chevy has almost all price ranges locked in for me. 17k-25k a 4 Cylinder Camaro (My daily driver) 30k- 45k Camaro SS 50k - 70k Camaro ZL1 60k - 100k the C8 Corvette. In my eyes there's no car better then these prices for performance range.

Good choice...i also bought a 2022 ranger, fx4, partly because of your videos, but also because on paper its the best midsize available... I couldn't be happier with it...i also considered waiting for the 23/24 but we'll see when it comes out...i dont like that its growing in size...i already feel like the current ranger is a little bigger than it should be for midsize
