The 2023 Orbea Wild H10 does resemble the old Wild FS, but it turns out it's quite different. It's better on most accounts though. This is a very capable 160 mm travel, 29er emtb.

I enjoy your lazy, candid and technical content on ebikes. I was particularly interested in this particular video because I bought the Orbea Wild H20 two months ago after reading watching rave videos on RU-vid, the last bike I bought after RU-vid endorsement was the entry model Specialized Turbo Levo which I loved (2019) - got stolen! My concern is that the Ebike brands are soliciting paid reviews of their top, most expensive models from the popular RU-vid channels, tellingly these paid reviews all come out at the same time, literally. There is a big problem with this platform - the reviews profusely embellish the super expensive bikes (some of which may be true of course), however, ordinary joe like me are much more likely to buy the entry level bikes in the hope that they ride very similar to the top models. EMTB - ordinary joe/jane - middle aged with kids, short on time, relatively new to or returned to biking, investing oversized sum to feed his/her hobby. None of the top earning channels review the entry level bikes, nor do they actually say anything negative because of the conflict of interest. Hence, it is not clear, who is this bike for? The beginner, or the pro downhill enduro ace? We hear far too many numbers - so many millimetres or angles this and that (chain stay, BB, reach etc.) and not enough about how they ride and whether these bikes are value for money? Hence, the RU-vid channels are complicit in letting the industry get away with hastily thrown together lower end bikes that are seriously flawed, and still demand thousands of dollars/pounds/euros! My view after 2 month ownership is a degree of disappointment. The H20 is a monster truck, way too heavy, I did not expect that given that the top product is 20.8Kg! This is a major problem for intermediate/ early biker. The sheer weight detracts from being able to jump, turn, develop skill, and the poor fork/suspension platform can only described as dull and lacklustre. The internal battery and the ridiculous complicated headset with internal cables is just nuts. Importantly, something you did not point out - this is a front heavy bike, much more noticeable in my size small bike with big 750 battery taking up the whole length of the down tube. It is difficult to convince this bike to jump (more speed, more hop) and then control the tendency of front end dipping. Why oh why do I have to spend several thousand of hard earned cash to bring it up to speed? Should I really even try to bring the weight down - not possible. The result is that 2 months down the line, I am desperately trying to sell the bike and buy a Specialized - the market, as it is, I can't even get half price for a 2 month old bike. I do not believe the Orbea Wild 2023 Alloy models are value for money - period. It turns out, all the R&D went in to developing the carbon race winning models. There is a unhealthy collusion between industry and channels/social platforms that promote these bikes - it makes it impossible to get an honest view of products that are more expensive than the cars we drive.

Have you weighed your H20? Would be interesting to know the weight. For some reason, the 2023 Wild was perceived as a lightweight emtb. People were asking why one would buy a "superlight" emtb when one could just buy the Orbea WIld. But it was only the top model that was sub 21 kg. The weight of the H10 I tested was very normal for an alloy emtb with a big battery. But as it had a fixed battery, it should perhaps be a tad lighter. I don't think it was particulary front heavy though, not compared to the competition. I might possibly have ridden the Fox 38 with slightly less rebound than normal. The front end felt light for what it was, and I never had any tracking issues at speed. It sucks taking a big loss selling the H20. And I'm not gonna promise you'll be happy if you decide to upgrade the bike. But the RS Silver 35 TK is 2.750g according to RS!! I enjoyed the Wild with a Fox 38, and I guess a Zeb would be fine too. If you prefer a light bike over a DH racer, there's more weight to be saved with something like an RS Lyrik Select+ fork. I don't know the weight of the H20 wheels, but getting a light front wheel could very well help noticeably.

Thanks for your helpful comments/suggestions. My H20 is 26.3Kg on my scale. Perhaps you are right to point out the suspension being the main culprit. I am struggling with the weight and will consider the swaps you suggest. The biking industry is in crisis and there are great deals to be had..........I pulled the trigger a bit too soon. Along the way learnt the lesson that the entry level bike is a different beast to the usually reviewed cousin. Lastly, in your videos do consider the 'weight' of emtb as a factor that may affect ride characteristics/performance for the full-fat emtb, in my view 20-22 Kg is the sweet spot and >25Kg a monster downhill truck! Looking forward to your content.

I got the H10 and it's an amazing ride. So I do agree that the fork and shock matter and you would likely have a different experience with H10 equivalent parts. I'm amazed how well the bike climbs despite its weight -which IS heavy. But even with the weight the bike is amazingly nimble even compared to my much much lighter non-powered hard-tail. That said I do wounder if I should have gotten the M10 (which I actually wanted but when the Wild was on sale someone bought the last M10 the day I put my order in for it). So saved $1k on the H10 vs the M10, but that $1k might have been worth it due to the bike being so heavy as is. The one thing I have noticed that I don't like about the design is the flat/spiky top tube due to knee strikes, but I really should be wearing knee pads anyways. However, they really could have rounded that top tube more.

@@janetstruharik826 My heart sank when I pulled the heavy hulk of H20 out of its packaging box - Orbea promised all Alloy models to be sub 25Kg! Not so. Pair the weight with dodgy suspension - brilliant. At what weight point does the line between eMTB and eMotorbikes start becoming blurred? I would guess that at >25Kg it feels to me like I am riding an emotorbike with pedals. The only thing missing is a throttle. I suspect those wishing to progress skill may really be affected. It is disingenuous of the industry (specially Orbea) to not focus on their entry level segment and just throw random parts together, but also importantly to lose sight of the weight and lie about it. Not value for money! Unfortunately there are too many youtubers embellishing products but not highlighting the limitations/ flaws. I am glad that you are happy with your H-10.

@@bikespike711 If you are looking at a full power EMTB with a big battery then there are going to be very few bikes in the 20-22KG weight unless you are spending big money. Most full power bikes will be 23.5KG +. If you want a lighter feel bike then the mid powered type like Orbea Rise and Trek Fuel EXE might suit better

Yeah, the fixed battery will be a dealbreaker for some. I like the simplicity of a fixed battery, but it's inconvenient for me.

Nyttig review!
@EMTBVideos
@EMTBVideos 3 месяца назад
Takk.

Bra review. Hva tenker du Wild eller Strive ON? =)
@EMTBVideos
@EMTBVideos 9 месяцев назад

@petterhelland7178 9 месяцев назад
Canyon gir bedre spec for pengene , uten tvil.

Merci beaucoup (: The Bullit has a very similar geometry to the new Wild, and I'd be happy with both bikes and both motors. The even the cheapest Bullit is nice and lightweight, and you get the detachable battery. But the Wild can be had with the 750 Wh battery. And the Bullit has a 27.5" rear wheel. Those would be the deciding factors to me, also it helps having a trusted dealer close by.

@@BjornBuzzurk Jeg likte Strive:ON og Wild veldig godt.

it's good that they have bikes with these cheap useless rs 35 forks because you can't buy frame only options and when you have a proper fork like a mezzer (which outperforms both zeb and 38) you can just get the cheapest build and swap the parts. That way you don't have to buy a mega expensive fork, and you have a fork you can swap back to when selling the bike later. But the fixed battery makes me not want this bike. I can see why they do it, but it's not for me.
@EMTBVideos
@EMTBVideos 9 месяцев назад
Yeah, but wouldn't it be sufficient with the H30? The H20 deserves a better fork. It can be upgraded to the base Zeb for another €300, but that eats up a lot of the price difference upt to the H10.
