This is my everyday driver in Victoria BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada. I put 220000 miles (yes the zeros are correct) on motorcycles by the time I was 43 years old. This is a practical vehicle in this climate and the S550 sits in the garage more often than not. I commute with this beast every day, except when it’s raining. I take it on longer excursions (2000 miles or more) during the Summer. Love it. Compared to motorcycle travel it is luxurious for an ole timer.😀
looking at one after my first motorcycle wreck in 40 years and breaking my hip along with other things. As a daily driver what is the gas mileage like?
I rented one to have a fun day on PCH on a Saturday when everyone around is riding or driving something impressing, with my son. We easily mixed in and he mentioned how much fun he had several times. I should admit that my ears were hurting towards the end of the day though 😉
@@DMillerFlorida glad to help. I should reiterate it was a rental and I don't know if it was in it's best condition. I think it worth to have a test drive at a dealership in one of the new ones.
I'd LOVE to check out one of those vehicles. Through the years I've owned a 1964 MGB roadster with knock off wire wheels. I had FUN with that car. I later got a 1974 fiat Xl/9 (first model year). It had a 1300cc single overhead cam 4 banger, 4 speed manual transmission (4 gear was a slight overdrive), 4 wheel disc brakes, targa top and ridiculously skinny tires (145-SR-13s, can't buy them that skinny anymore). I later put 205 VR-60-13s which made it drive like a OVERSIZED GO-KART, It would STEAL YOUR BREATH AWAY. It was extremely FUN to drive. A lot like the POLARIS SLINGSHOT.😉👍😁😂
@@dennisshyu6797 unfortunately, the driver seat heater doesn’t work. I did build a nice acrylic shield for it though. Also, I wear a.lambswool shearling coat with a high collar. It’s a saab, so the heat is pretty good.
Interesting. I had no idea the slingshot had a heater. That was the one thing holding me back from getting one. I'm glad I came across your comment. @@dennisshyu6797
We have a Slingshot and we love it. This one, however, looks like someone pulled the 'skin' off leaving only the bone (where it is white). Kinda creepy looking. Would be great for Halloween. Regardless, the Slingshot is a hell of a lot of fun. Don't let this paint job scare you away.
That's awesome to hear. I'm interested in getting one. Would you mind telling me if they have heat and air? Also, is the reviewer correct in saying the stereo is pretty good even on the highway?
@@DaCake2 They have heat in the summer and AC in the winter. 😅 Jk. No, they do not have air. But even in the middle of summer we've never really found it uncomfortable. We find our stereo to be more than adequate, and see no reason to upgrade it.
@@Whammo77 Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. How about the noise volume at high speeds on the highway. Some have complained that it’s really loud and ear plugs are a must. Trying to get all the facts I can and you never know what to believe online anymore.
@@DaCake2 Honestly, we don't get on the highway without helmets. Any kind of debris, or even a bird, at that speed can have bad consequences. A lady we met got hit in the head by a bird on the highway while on their slingshot and she had to go to the hospital and get stitches. 😲 We use HJC full face helmets, so there is some wind noise but not terribly noticeable with the helmets.
@@Whammo77 Oh wow. I didn’t even consider something like that happening. So in other words, the slingshot is best if you want a cruiser to take a lower speeds around town. Probably not great for a daily driver, correct? I was interested in getting it and driving it every day in the summer, but the more and more I learn, the more and more I see it might not be the best bet for that
Okay I have a question what about buying a dune buggy street legal? I mean I understand the fun factor for a slingshot but some states you need to get a motorcycle license. Plus with the dune buggy I can go off-roading . You can't do that on a slingshot. And the other thing cost. A new slingshot runs about 21 k . A dune buggy you could probably get built for under 7k.
Depends on where you live. Most states, no. We don't have to, but if we get on the highway, we choose to... a bird to the noggin at 75mph would not be good...
You absolutely could not daily this in the midwest/northeastern states. Enjoy getting pummeled in the face and inside your interior in the wintertime by salt and snow when you end up stuck behind a semi truck or big SUV.
To be honest, I just test drive the slingshot and its quite boring to drive. I took the strongest one and event with that, its still lacking power wise. The control is clunky at best and everything just feel cheap. The look is the only thing that this thing has going for it. Its also really huge, like a real car😂
Polaris has a terrible reputation on fit and finish. They SxS is renowned to be among the worse. At min 4, when he closes the glove box and all that plastic above shakes, yea, nice...
I thought so too. But I ran to the next town to test drive a used one and I was impressed. I wasn't impressed with that used one in itself, but I guess I was thinking it was going to be a flimsy vehicle. The seats look extremely uncomfortable and they absolutely were not. It was like sitting in a glove. Anything I moved was pretty sturdy. I was not happy with the plexiglass windshield. The glovebox and backseat storage was heftier than I had imagined. I would say that if you have the pocket change to spare for this vehicle without sacrifice... It's a fun toy.
I want to make one of these with bicycle tires on the front and a big meaty tire on the back. Electric motor powering rear wheel, battery under the axles. Elon says you can not make a safe e-motorcycle. I say a motorcycle can have 2 front wheels that touch less road than 1 normal wheel. It is going to seat 1, be small, look kinda stupid, and chop anything on the road or track.
"Helmet required" ...Ummm, Nope! I'll just buy an MX5 soft top roadster for less money, and no helmet required...for a true open air driving experience. Get something that can take the high pitch off your voice please.
@@benjohnson6089 some of these stupid statments! it has far more protect ...but all that starts with a driver of quality and im not talking about some azzhole that passed the drivers test and that is it.... it will cost 150 bucks to install a roll cage that will protect the legs as well....few plastic cuts and bolts to the frame...
