For $149K it's an amazing car at a bargain, for $176K (with Weissach) it's still good, but for $250K (after markup) ... can't forget this is a car that started from a $65K base Cayman. At that higher price point, I'd probably be cross-shopping at least a GT3 and maybe other exotics.
@@James-wg8mn That is both the blessing and the curse of Porsches... their styling is generally understated and elegant (compared to the usual exotic car brands), and depending on whether you're an average guy or gal on the street, or a hard core enthusiast, their $250K car can look like a $50K car, or the other way around. Enthusiasts will usually see the extra CF, aero bits and other tell tale signs that you're looking at a higher end Porsche. But for someone who wants to fly under the radar so to speak, Porsches are kind of the best choice. If you WANT most people to know you paid $200K+ for a car, this is probably not the right one...
You don't need a double wishbone front in this. Misha Charoudin did a review of the SSR Performance GT$RS around the ring which has coilovers and a front aero duct and bigger wing and that fixed the feel of the front end he said. Manthey Racing also runs their cars with coilovers and there is no complaints for no double wishbone front from them. Same with Dundon Racing running MCS.
@@Chilicharger665and double wishbone didn't exist in Porsches until the 992 GT3... weirdly I didn't hear anyone crying about it in previous model GT3/3Rs, GT2RS etc. Seems now everyone be like "bUt iT dOeSnT hAvE dOuBlE WisHbOnE sUsPeNsIoN" usually being parroted by peanuts that haven't driven a 992 GT3 or GT4RS.
Also it doesn’t have the magnesium wheels, the Weissach pack deserves the lightest wheels plus they look so good finished in satin indigo blue very exotic looking, these standard wheels in black look a bit ugly imo.
@@AllanCuttingedge They’re like 5 times less expensive to replace, that’s the only reason. And you’re gonna be going through them somewhat often on track. Replacing 20k brakes as a wear item probably doesn’t feel too good. Also, the steels WILL overheat faster than the ceramics yes, but let’s not forget they’re still probably the best normal brakes money can buy.
I've ordered a Spyder RS next to my NSX. Can't freakin wait to get it! (BTW racing drives complain about the front grip of the GT4RS, and the way too assisted steering)
And this is why, so many car manufacturers dont even bother doing mid engine sports cars. Because they know it wont be able to compete or compare with stuff like this. Its one reason why I respect Lotus so much. Because they always have done and always will do proper sports cars. They don't care how good the Porsche ones are.
I own a 718 GT4 with an aftermarket exhaust and it sounds great, my mate has a GT4RS and when he took me out in it I must could not stop laughing and giggling like a little girl 😂😂 I got out of that car with a feeling I’ve never experienced from any other car and I include in that Mclaren, Ferraris and even the Lambo I had. This GT4RS is just something else, it’s beyond intoxicating.
I have one and this comment nails it (I know it's an older video). Driving it, I genuinely couldn't care less that a 992 GT3 is 6 seconds faster around the Nurburgring. The visceral 9000rpm howl of that flat 6 coming through the airbox 4" behind your skull is like no other car I've been in. It puts a huge shit-eating grin on the face of everyone who experiences it, and it makes you feel like a driving god even when you're doing 60mph in 2nd.
@@paintballplayer700 😆😆😆😆 exactly mate 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I also had to get one after going out in my mates, it’s just absolutely insane to rip throughout the higher Rev range 😀
@@FATmenDRIVEtrucks Well he didn’t mention it in the video, so I thought I would mention it. I am not talking shit to you or about your comment. Just saying the EV acceleration vs ICE is super played out. I can though, for example; Tesla’s are boring, one trick pony shtboxes and comparing a model 3 to a RS Porsche is a tired played out boring boring conversation. You want a Tesla go for it. Don’t care.
Very interesting review - Hi-Fidelity is a great descriptor for any RS. The 4RS is outstanding, not perfect, but therein is its magic. Much prefer it over the 992 GT3 and 992 GT3 RS. Don't get over sold on the strut/double wishbone debate, honestly, real world it only matters at the limit.
Answer to you heading: YES …. out of the box handling and stability are somewhat compromised … it is kind of a scary /nervous car ! Sound is beyond anything else i have experienced!
I actually think it's maybe a tad too loud for my taste, my ear is ringing after a short drive. I think I am either getting old I am actually prefer the GT3 RS noise a little better because I can hear the nuance with quality this one the volume is at 11 some definition just lost to the loudness from my ear....
Is it even possible to say, custom make double wishbones for the GT4 RS? e.g they say because the GT4 RS is a smaller car it's physically not possible to implement the aspects of the suspension that the GT3 has? thoughts?
The one thing Porsche does better than anyone else is deliver a car that makes you feel like you're driving a racecar, whilst not having it suck. Racecars suck on the street, but they have the perfect blend of creature comfort and lunacy that has really allowed them to corner the market. The shame of the whole thing is that this formula has really only been around for a little more than a decade, yet the EV future has already sealed the fate of these wonderful ICE experiences. Is it worth $225k-$250k? That a question better left answered in 10-20 years...
In your last GT4 review, you said the car felt sterile when driving normally. I totally agree with your statement that unless you are on track or doing very illegal speeds on the road, it isn't that exciting. How does the gt4 rs compare? Is it fun at normal speeds too?
You can see from his review that he is having most of his excitement/fun with the GT4 RS by pushing it hard towards redline in each gear at over 100mph to get an adrenaline rush. It’s normally more fun to drive a slower car fast then a fast car slow on the street. Given the GT4 RS has stiffer springs and more tire noise that should make it much less sterile feeling during normal driving. I think a GT4 RS is an extremely special car, so one should be excited and have fun just driving it at legal speeds.
@@tomjones5166 I would agree from the video he seems to be having a lot of fun but like you said, he is going pretty quick on public roads. I'm interested to hear his comparison of the gt4 and RS daily driving it. All the gt4 reviews before said it was such a hardcore car that is impossible to drive daily. I personally totally disagree with most reviews and the gt4 is easy to daily and is very tame when driving normally. I own a 2005 RSX also and that is a blast to drive around town (slow cars driven fast are fun 😊)
@@thebigos1 the regular 718 GT4 felt a bit "compromised" in terms of driving dynamics, which almost feels wrong to say, given how capable on track it is. It really needs to be pushed hard to come alive. In contrast, the 4RS is far more visceral even at 5/10ths due to the suspension, engine response/sound, and short gearing. It's more exciting at all speeds.
@@falcaofalcao528 talking about on streets with other drivers where you can only go so fast, the fun factor is pretty much the same. Not talking numbers. My BRZ is almost as much fun, except for the sound.
