This month we are working on ribbon candy. Ribbon candies are a fun and easy free motion quilting motif that are easy to fit into lots of different shapes. You can even quilt the in rows across a quilt for a fun all over design.
Today we are going to pair our ribbon candies with straight lines and little arches. I'm going to share with you a quick and easy way to mark straight lines on your quilts, no special tools or pens required, and they are guaranteed to come out! We are also learning how to quilt grid designs without stopping and starting.

My goodness, you make those curves look so easy! My coordination...or lack there of...doesn't allow me to do such even curves.

It's lots of practice. I promise, my first quilts aren't nearly as smooth.

I’m curious about how these will be joined together and am wondering if the travelling along the edges of the block will interfere with that joining process later. Often with quilt as you go you are asked to leave an unstitched area. I’m looking forward to finding out how you do this and learning something new. Thanks for taking the time to share your skill, I have been following along and am learning a lot.

We will be using sashing to join them together.

@@OnWilliamsStreet so this might seem like a dumb question, but how important is it that the backing square is 19” x 19”? I accidentally cut two squares at 18”x18” and now I don’t have enough fabric to cut the correct size over again…..will I still be able to make the smaller size square work for me or should I look for a different backing and do it properly? If we are trimming them down and then sashing, I am hoping I will be okay. Your advice/input would be greatly appreciated.

@@isewalot1234 You should be able to make it work if you save them for the inside blocks. The outer ones we are going to be leaving a little more on the outside edges. The middle seams will be trimmed to 1" bigger than the top. Still cut your batting at 19" if you can, it will just give you a little more wiggle room with joining.

@@isewalot1234 Also, I'm sorry I'm just seeing this, youtube comments don't always notify me when they come through!

Thanks for getting back to me. No worries that it took awhile, I was away anyway. I’m glad you took the time to answer, we aren’t there yet anyway so no worries. I look forward to continuing on with this project.
