Hello! We are Missy and Kimie of On Williams Street. We design patterns and share tips and tricks related to quilting and free motion quilting. Come along and create with us!
I'm using a sewing machine that has a horizontal spool pin. My quilting thread is the same size all the way up and then has a small plastic cylindrical part that protudes from the center of the spool and causes the spool cap to fit so poorly that it rattles around and soon falls off the spindle. How do I get the thread to stay on the spindle so I can properly wind my bobbin and sew.
I have made my first Twin size quilt and this is the best video I've seen for a domestic Brother sewing machine to begin my quilting journey. Thank you for keeping it simple
Yes! We finished it up and posted quilting ideas and lots of pictures here: www.onwilliamsstreet.com/blogs/tutorials/10-different-border-quilting-motifs
This is an absolutely wonderful tutorial! I need patterns for these shapes. I am 76 years old and I’m now learning to quilt on my machine. I tie most quilts. Well all of them. lol thank you, thank you , thank you.
Great! Thank you for the inspiration. I’ve been unable to quilt, lately, being in the middle of a drawn out move...but I can DOODLE! Then, when I’m able to get back to quilting, I’ll be in practice. Yay!
I was inspired by your video and made my design wall over the weekend. I really appreciate the advice to make it only 6 feet by 4 feet and to get the 1” thick board. I made three adaptations: 1- I wrapped packing tape around all of the edges to reduce the wear on the fragile edges. 2- I used a fiber-enhanced tape as the hinge, and I also used that tape to make the styrofoam stronger. I made two horizontal and two vertical tape lines on the design side. 3- I took an old knife, heat it in a flame and sliced that styrofoam like butter. No rough edges!! I washed my flannel in HOT HOT water and over dried it on super heat in the dryer so it would finish SHRINKING! Finally, I made the 2x4 foot piece cut off into a table top design board. Thanks! This was a super helpful video!!
@@OnWilliamsStreet I wish now that I hadn't covered it in so much tape on the face of the board. Sticking pins in it is a bit of a drag. Oh well! It's still a great tool!
As a newbie there are a couple steps that might be clarified. When you say “print side up”, do you mean the print side should be facing the printed side of the paper? Does the second piece go print (or right side) facing the right side of the previous piece? 11:39
You want the back of the fabric touching the backside of the template, so you'll be able to see both the printed lines of the template and the printed side of the fabric as you sew them together. Does that help?
@@OnWilliamsStreet I made this quilt, love the pattern. Thank you for sharing it. I used prints & white strips. It’s a really big quilt. So quick to make.
I agree...quilting is my least favorite part and I don't do it well. I cannot afford to pay someone to quilt most of them (I do occasionally splurge). Always looking for easy options that I can do successfully. I prefer batting that allows for a lot of space between the quilt stitches. Currently I am trying a quilt-as-you-go technique.
We are using the Dritz heat erase fabric pens. I think we just bought them at Joann's, but you can likely find them other places as well. They are the pens made specifically for fabric.
Nice fast quilt to use up all the jelly rolls I have sitting around. I don't think I will trim mine down to 40" and 20"--will use the full width of fabric and just have my quilt a little wider. Thanks for the tutorial!
Love this quilt. Don’t take the criticism to seriously-just take the comments that you think might improve your videos and continue on. Your lighting and sound were very clear. The pattern is very nice. I’m thinking I’ll make this. Thank you ❤️😁🌹
Nice design! A couple of suggestions for videos in general: 1- show a clear picture of the project. Do this at the start to set expectations & get people excited to see how to make it. Do it again at the end as a visual summary. 'Make this thing that I'm not showing you' is a trope of poor quality content farms clawing for every second of view time. You aren't one of those - don't run the risk of making potential/new viewers think that you are. 2 - Some soft mass piled out of sight in the corners of your room will improve audio quality by cutting all the reflections you have bouncing around - blankets, towels, fabric etc will do the job.
Hi, can you let me know which jelly roll you used- i love the design and colours. Thank you for this excellent video. I am inspired to make one ,you make it seem so easy. Trish.
We actually cut our strips from Kona cottons in our stash, but they have a Spring Meadow roll up that would give you a very similar look with some of the same greens, it will just have more variation.
