Montana state lawmakers are at it again, threatening public land access, funding for conservation programs, and our constitutional right to clean air, clean water, and healthy public lands.
It’s time for Montanans to unite and show our elected officials that we won’t tolerate ANY attacks on the lands, waters, wildlife, and outdoor way of life we love.
Folks from across the state showed up for public lands on the north lawn of the State Capitol in Helena on Feb. 23, 2023, to say, loud and clear, that we WILL hold elected officials accountable if they try to sell out public lands, waters, and wildlife to corporations and wealthy landowners at the expense of everyday Montanans.
THE SPEAKERS:
➜ Cole Mannix, Founder, President of Old Salt Meat Company
Cole is part of an extended family that has ranched together near Helmville, Montana since 1882. He worked as director of operations for a beef company called Ranchers Original and as associate director of Western Landowners Alliance before founding and leading Old Salt Co-op, a meat business bringing Montanans together around animal-based foods and agriculture to enhance local landscapes and community. He lives in Helena with spouse Eileen Brennan, and sons Finn and Charlie.
➜ Ryan Callaghan, MeatEater’s Conservation Director and host of "Cal's Week In Review"
Ryan Callaghan is MeatEater’s Conservation Director and host of the popular podcast “Cal’s Week in Review.”
➜ Hannah Muszkiewicz, public land enthusiast and educator
Hannah is a born and raised Montanan who has grown up enjoying public lands. Every summer since she can remember her family has hiked through Glacier National Park, spending a night in one of their beautiful chalets. From weekend camping trips at Vigilante Campground, to the weekly strolls she and her mother took through Helena’s South Hills, Hannah has always been a strong supporter of public lands and environmental protection. Hannah currently works as a paraeducator in the Helena School District and plans to work towards a degree in education at the University of Montana this fall.
➜ Mariah Gladstone
Mariah Gladstone is a Blackfeet woman raised along the Backbone of the World. She founded Indigikitchen to reconnect people with Native foods and restore healthy land stewardship.
EVENT EMCEE
➜ Mary Hollow, Executive Director, Prickly Pear Land Trust
As a fifth-generation Montanan and outdoor enthusiast, Mary has long been connected to the lands and waters of Big Sky Country. She holds University of Montana degrees in business finance and economics. She began her career in the U.S. Senate and later for a housing organization in Washington, D.C. Upon her return to Montana, Mary ran a fishing lodge in the Blackfoot Valley. Inspired to further conservation efforts, Mary then went to work for The Nature Conservancy during their acquisitions of Plum Creek Timber land in western Montana. For nearly 10 years she managed land deals and served as the Government Affairs Director for TNC in Montana. Mary joined the PPLT staff in 2015 as executive director. Connecting people with conservation values and the outdoors in our urban communities is a key goal for Prickly Pear Land Trust and a personal interest for Mary.
