Grandstand view of the start of the 2023 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona for the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. Check out my Twitter / lankyturtle and subscribe to my channel for more HD racing videos! #IMSA #Rolex24 #Daytona
LAST SHOT facing turn one - omg Lanky, superb - crazy that they're pulling down in that distance from those speeds ( and the GTPs have a bit more top end despite the measly 670 bhp!)
They hit the banking at start-finish flat-out and slam down to 2nd in under 300 feet. The downshifts released shockwaves that shook your whole body. Their brakes get red-hot and some prototypes would scrape their under-carriage causing sparks to flash outwards.
It blows my f'ing mind that imsa has no live youtube coverage of the race. I spent like an hour this morning searching all different apps on my roku and throughout youtube and came up empty handed. These races would be SO MUCH bigger and widely watched here in the states if they actually put their content out there for people to get into! Instead they hide one of the most hyped up races in recent history behind some random streaming app that I'd never even heard of before searching for this race. The SRO with their gt series seem to understand how to market their races and make them available to watch, I dont know why endurance racing is still stuck in the early 2000's only offering an hour or so of coverage on nbc, and hiding away their live race behind a singular paywalled streaming service. The hype for lmh/lmdh is real, all they need to do is put the content out for the masses to actually see!
100% agree, I had to search for this race and I’m what you’d consider a race enthusiast. There is no way the exposure is nearly as high as it should be to the average consumer. In my opinion this should be near the popularity of f1, but the exposure and ease of access is just not there. I’m loving this race however
Thank you for this video. I'll try to visit Roar event on Sat Jan 20. I hope to take some pics there. Looking for spots where there is no fence. I've never been at Dayton raceway before, only at Sebring.
Well all the fences are taller than Sebring but most of the fence through the infield is about 6 feet (1.8M) tall. Lots of people bring a step stool to shoot over them
@@LankyTurtle Thank you. I was told you can part in the infield during the Roar. So I guess I'll just leave it in the car when it's time to check paddocks.
As much as I am grateful for being able to watch this race , NBC is showing so many commercials that I finally gave up watching. I understand it's necessary but I'm paying a monthly subscription for a reason and they turn around and ruin the race
I honestly cant believe they dont have a live broadcast of the race on youtube. This was one of the biggest most hyped up races I can remember being alive for and yet its hidden away. They arent capitalizing on the hype that their marketing teams put in huge effort in creating. I just wish endurance racing would catch up with sro gt racing coverage. The audience is out there! And if they would actually make their content available it would grow immensely!
@@johnsullivan937 Couldn't have been better said. World class racing with a huge fan base and they are missing out on the opportunity for even more growth.
was kinda hoping they would show the garage 56 car, just to see it race next to them but if somebody knows where to find a video of it actually racing lmk
@@JohnDoe-xu2vx seriously? bop = balance of performance... IMSA takes a good look against the cars and balances them against each other, so lets say a Camaro can race against a Ferrari and a Audi R8 with Mazda MX5 and so on. This happens in GT4 category. In GTP all (current) cars use one out of four different chassis. BMW & Cadillac have the same for example. Acura uses the same chassis as Alpine will do in their coming car for 2024. Also all the cars share the same hybrid system. Porsche does suspension, aerodynamics, engine... thats it. And all of it will be taken a look at by IMSA, so you can't put a 16 cylinder engine in there. Engine can only produce a specified amount of power and car can only weigh so much, and if they see any loopholes and only Porsche for example is winning races, then they can change BoP after a race. It's designed that everyone in theory has a chance. That the best driver wins, that best engineering (reliability) is rewarded while spending as much money as everyone else (unlike older times where Porsche spent 3-4 times as much as Toyota) for their car. I've been saying it before the race, everyone thinking Porsche will win everything again is just fooling themselves. Nearly impossible now, just like Germany winning the next 10 out of 10 world cups. That being said, Porsche didn't perform awfully. They had one less car than Cadillac and one of them failed because the battery (made by Bosch i believe) which is the same in every car has failed. They all had issues. Acura had to refill their oil mid race too, could have gone horribly wrong.
@@JohnDoe-xu2vx im not but call it whatever you want... just saying they don't need their program sorted out, parts breaking which weren't made by them. And as i said, BMW, Cadillac and Acura had troubles too. BoP just wasn't on their side, just like with 911 and other GT cars like BMW M4. If so, pretty much everyone needs their program sorted out.
