Nice trip Tom 👍. Just returned yesterday from Thredbo and also stopped at the Exeter Supercharger. Yes it is fast….Probably give Goulburn charger a miss in future. Left Thredbo with 95% SOC and arrived at Exeter with 20% (M3LR) . Overtook every car along the Monaro highway and Federal highway but still managed 146 Wh/Km 😇. Preheating the battery allowed peak charge speed of 207 kw (sounded like a rocket launch … with all the fans). The car said I could continue to Sydney with 3% at arrival… but I needed a pie 🥧 and charged for 30mins to 85%. Discovered Thredbo now have 4 x Dual head (8 plugs) EVSE Exploren AC 22kw chargers in the overnight carpark P4… all currently FREE…. Could be another road trip for Ludicrous Feed to checkout ⛄️
These videos are super-helpful in normalising the road-trip and charging experience for those still on the fence about buying an EV. Keep 'em coming! Tesla need to open up their superchargers to everyone though. Those 12 bays at Campbelltown should be getting more use because it's by amenities and almost on the crossroads between Appin Road-Narellan Road and the Hume.
Thanks for another awesome video. I have learnt so much from your channel, I’ve ordered a model 3 rwd just on two weeks ago so just waiting for that to get manufactured, can’t wait!
When you came over to Adelaide did they have any of the new RAA charge points available? They are popping up across the state slowly and have a few ultra speed 250kw units which seem rated faster than the Tesla superchargers but I’d be interested to hear any real world results. . Keith is one such site. We don’t have any ampol sites yet but I look forward to them.
Just got the message and updated my order for highland! Says October delivery atm. Quite easy to convert current order to new model, colours are slightly different but I went stealth silver woohoo! If you want any screenshots of the messages and pages used to switch to highland, reach out :)
Hi Tom, with the Tesla Logic did you purchase another handset for that or does it come with a handset ? Also do you have a secret life as a politician as you seem to go to Canberra a lot.
Hi Tom, I’ve got a 2023 M3 RWD. Have done 15k kms so far with wheel covers on and off. Have not seen any difference in range. I find it easier to leave covers off as it makes it easier to adjust tyre air pressure. To get a noticeable range increase ‘Chill’ mode works 👍
Southpoint is where we currently do most of our charging, since we’re STILL waiting for our house, in which we’ll install a Level 2, to be built. Majura is almost always busy - I think Rebecca Tinucci’s underlings need to negotiate to install more Superchargers there, if not elsewhere in Canberra also. My 2 cents on the updated Polestar 2s - now they’re RWD, less is more. Another good video, Tom.
There's an option in the screen to change your wheel type. I also got the Arachnids so I've updated the wheels to the bare alloys, which are basically the Arachnids. I wonder if this makes a difference when the car calculates power usage and consumption...?

Great Video! 8:16 I could see the hydrogen/battery powered Toyota Mirai (only 20 in AUS). Very rare to see because Australia only has 2 Hydrogen stations!
Great review and interesting as all your reviews are. I live regionally but infrastructure is improving, and have just ordered a Model 3 long range. Your reviews have been a great help in the decision I’ve reached to go electric. I’ll be travelling to Canberra from my NSW/Vic border based City and most, but not all, travel will be on major East Coast routes. Thanks for informative and interesting reviews.
Hi Tom, thanks for y8ur videos, superhelpful. I have a black model y on order, did you get any paint protection or anything to help keep the blacklooking great?
Great view through the front windscreen, nice. Hope you can review the Polestar LR RWD at some point - can you make the Victoria Albury-Wadonga border from Sydney without charging I wonder (560km)!
They’re definitely the current standard to aspire to in 2023 in terms of setup and surrounding amenities. I used them in my MG4 vid: 2023 MG4 Electric Vehicle Highway Range Test Sydney to Canberra Drive ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5wkkAg_lwqs.html
It is a good point about stopping Tom. For many years now I have stopped several times on typical 400km trips and with an EV my travel times have not changed because of this. EVs in a way help you relax your life a bit and that is good for fatigue and road fatalities. It will be interesting how the road toll changes as EVs take over. Hopefully my job becomes more boring because of this. And agree on the overtaking advice with phantom breaking. Hopefully Highland addresses this issue!
Hi there again, unrelated question. Does your new model Y have the easily accessible physical rear door release? Or is it still buried under the door card storage trim? Just ordered one myself using your referral the other day.
Our 2023 Model Y rear door emergency release is buried under the storage trim - easy enough to access. I should probably do a short to demonstrate. Thanks for using my referral 🙏
do they have 100% free 32amp charging in NSW and ACT. with out a subcription or anything like they do in Queensland? or is that just a queensland thing? here they have tesla 32amp chargers and charge fox chargers at nearly all shopping centers carparks and they are all free. Had my model 3 for 5 months the only time i have ever paid for charging is with super chargers on a long trips. But about 95% of my charging done in the last 5 months has been free.
It’s definitely not limited to Qld. Yes there are free public 22kW AC charging locations in shopping centres throughout the rest of the country. If you’re willing to find them, you can drive your EV around cost-free. Some people however may prefer to pay for the convenience of being about to plug in at home if they are time pressured
Check video description for the link to Teslogic Dashboard mount. Here’s my full review: 2023 Tesla Model Y Model 3 Mobile Dashboard Instrument Cluster Display ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fvmXjgCjxR0.html
Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the old trip/consumption meter from early 2022. This new one is harder to read, and like you said, some of the adjustments make no sense. All I want to know is how I'm going versus the prediction.
Is this Coln Carpnr?, It's pronounced Ma-Rool/Rule-an, with an emphasis on the M and R and a running together of the last 2 syllables - sure it has more of an 'en" sound at the end like Alan but it's still there not just cut off completely.
Super great video. Is there information about the battery. I am new to the EV world and I am considering purchasing an EV car. I am concerned about an EV in cold temperatures eg Canberra
Thanks I have a view videos on the efficiency of the LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery so be sure to check them out. Otherwise there are resources online to discover. Cold climates can drop the range of an EV and can also affect charging rates
I have found though that 250kw is not all it's cracked up to be either - the 250kw only happens for a very short time then drops to mid-low 100's for most of the charge to 80% , around about where the SR sits (or slightly above) most of the time charging if pre-conditioned. There is a benefit of 250kw max but it's smaller than you might think.
Just what I wanted, Syd-Can in a Model3 with LFP...thanks for the phantom braking explanation passing big trucks, it's the first one I've seen. One request, could you engage enhanced auto pilot to show how it handles various traffic situations to see if it's worth the extra, assuming it's legal to do so.
I saw a review of the Tesla model y RWD where it was stated that using the mobile adapter with 220V it is possible to charge the car fully in 24hours. Is this true?
Seems a fair real life EV road trip experience. I am not against choice of vehicle but one thing that stands out is the amount of stops taken to fuel up for such a trip that in Aus is quite common. I do this length of trip quite often and when stopping for a break I like to stop at much more pleasant locations such as a beach or bushland away from anything commercial. I hope that before my choice of vehicle is removed by the EV lobby and their government allies, EV's are much better in that this distance is covered by a single charge as most other modern family vehicles can do.
That’s a fair comment and sometimes the best charging option is no charging. Here’s an example of a range test where I didn’t have to charge: Premium BYD Seal Highway Range and Efficiency Sydney to Hunter Valley ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qwKwLij6e08.html Stay tuned, More to come 🙏
No wonder you weren’t worried about charging at East hotel… you supercharged twice! Haha… I’ll be honest not looking forward to your polestar video. Found the whole experience at East really frustrating by them and the hotel. The fact they blocked off access to multiple car parks with power outlets near them and reserved them for polestar staff i was livid at…especially when there was no cars there. And they were washing their polestar cars in the underground car park and i waited for him to turn off the pressure washer so i could drive past. They didnt… just rude the bunch of them.
I hope you are far dinkum,I am nearly 70 years old and I only now one person during my life who has done this trip and that person is me and that trip took place in 1976 when there was 240 miles of bull dust road/non sealed which took 8 hours of continuous driving and also required me to have a Gerry can of petrol to complete the crossing. Most people would travel by plane then drive
@@LudicrousFeed I know it because I used to go down there a bit for the Pheasant Wood track days a few km out of town. Nice twisty track, and with BP chargers at marulan, probably a great spot for some Tesla track days.
Pretty sad one needs to add two phones because Tesla is too cheap to put a proper speed readout on the dash and doesn't allow Apple Carplay or third party apps like Waze.
Isn't it a bit much Tom to use 3 devices just to get to Canberra? It's straight along M31, surely the Tesla tablet would suffice 😉. This video would scare away baby boomers who are considering a tech car as 1 device is already overwhelming but 3? They'll stick to 🧊 🚗 👎🏻
Hey......over 60 here still build my own PCs from scratch - we're not all the same, I have found the Tesla screen completey fine - no extra devices needed - voice, stalks and the assignable buttons are all I need.
