This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2023 Vinfast VF9 3-row 7-passenger all-electric SUV. This new electric mid-size SUV comes from Vinfast, the Vietnamese car manufacturer that is coming to North America this year with four all-electric SUVs. With so few electric 7-passengers offerings, this VF9 stands out for design, interior space, comfort and a near-luxury feel. The Vinfast VF9 is on sale now and the first units will arrive from Vietnam in March of 2023 with the VF6 and VF7 compact and subcompact SUVs due at the end of 2023.

Have you seen VinFast Canada website, MSRP on full size SUV, VF9 Eco starts at $103,790 battery inclusive, with AWD and options probably somewhere around $130-$140k. Do they even know the profile of a consumer who buys and can afford a $140k car! With the exception of a few novelty seekers, it is not just about a good product (I am sure VF9 is) but stature. They want to be seen in Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, etc. Companies with 100s of years invested in thier brand equity, VinFast is 3 years old, sorry no short cuts. For those who point to Tesla, please pick up a book on business strategy and read about first mover advantage, that ship has sailed.

The Vinfast cars was designed by BMW and many others. However, Tesla gets in automotive less than ten years and come out as ahead of the crowd. Elon’s SpaceX company was born not longtime ago, but it can deliver the business better than NASA and Russian Soyuz Spacecraft Could. Vietnamese arms forces small and much less modernization than French and America but somehow they shocked both imperialist countries over half century ago. (This is an old facts and the time has changed it doesn’t warranty they’re do great today) Gotten into the game long time ago, they have many advantages, but doesn’t mean they are champions always! Have you watch soccer games recently, many great soccer teams lost the game :) I agree with the price is expensive for people like you and I.

@@tornado0417 Thank you for your response. My statement is simple VinFast products like VF9 are luxury products but the brand is not luxury, hence their pricing is way off. People who can afford to spend $104,000 on a car do not just buy a nice car they buy stature. Time will tell.

Eveyone is complaining about the pricing. Lets compare it against MY, VF9 will be bigger than vf9, and equivalently priced. Yes they are new, but cannot expect one to sell for loss !!. They already have 'Vinfirsts' who are ready to take the first set of VF9s when they are launched. Also note - they already manufactured EVs before VF8 and 9. I believe it was called e34. So this is not their first/second EV.

VinFast front model and logo were exact copies of China's Changan Automobile back in 1950's. There is a reason why zero Vinfast car was sold in Europe after it failed safety standards there for 5 years after much fanfare for its Paris Auto Show with big ticket hired spokesman Beckham in 2018. There is a reason why Michael Lohscheller resigned as CEO after only 6 months seeing the scam from inside. VinFast is part of VinGroup whose numerous enterprises ended up being short-lived, including convenient stores, clothe lines, smart phones, rice-cookers, stock-trading platform, gas cars, e-bikes, and soon-to-be electric cars. Chairman Vuong's real goal is to take this so-called company on US market IPO, sweep the cash, then flee like a bandit. He created the vast wealth for VinGroup only through using VinGroup as a conduit to sell robbed lands of poor Vietnamese citizens by colluding with the brutal Vietnamese Commie regime who directly did the land-robbing. All true. Do your research.

The exterior design certainly is eye-catching, especially the way they integrated their V logo into the the DRL & taillights. That hood design does seem like an odd, problematic design feature. Besides concern for snow & rain. It also appears to limit forward vision. Will be interesting to see how it works out in real world driving situations show if VinFast has done appropropriate road testing of their vehicles or simply come up with a unique design that hinders rather than helps function. Interior also very nice but no dash instruments is quite radical and will take some getting used to! I like how the seats truly fold flat. With virtually no foot well in the 3rd row it looked very uncomfortable and I doubt that Andrea would last long back there (BTW, how tall is Andrea?). All that said, I think they have an uphill battle with other EVs given their pricing, no track record, and reputation of country of origin. I wish them well but wouldn't buy stock in their country!

We showed what we saw, gave the facts and will reserve final judgement of the vehicle when we have it for a week and actually get to drive it and spend some time with it. We are a fair channel and we both feel this is a fair review of a vehicle we haven't driven. I am not a big fan of doing walk arounds at shows, I prefer to have the vehicle for a week but in the world of RU-vid, people want to see what is being offered early even if it's only a first look. They will be opening up a dealer close to where I work. The signs are up and they are almost finished their renos. Right next to a Tesla dealer 🤑

Think through before commenting dude. Do Huyndai, Kia and every other automakers have charging network? And for the service location part, i do see them having some already and will expand when they starting to deliver cars.

At this point we are all aware that Vinfast is a borderline scam car company, why give them so much praise on an unproved product? Most of the credible car journalists that were flown to Vietnam are highly skeptical and they trashed the few unfinished cars they were able to test. I'm disappointed that Motormouth has gone down this road.

This is a new brand, we are not going to trash a brand that we don't know a lot about and have spent very little time in the vehicles. We drove the VF8 for 20 minutes in Vietnam and it was a prototype vehicle. To give a review that is too positive or too negative would be unfair to us and to the brand. We reviewed what we saw, we discussed the battery subscription and even called them out on this offering in a press conference. Vinfast made changes quickly and gave consumers to buy the vehicle with the battery included. In these first look reviews, we describe what we see in the vehicle so our viewers can get an idea about what Vinfast is offering. We haven't even driven the VF9 so how can we trash it. I spoke to a Vinfast executive at CES and said, I am impressed that they have brought 4 EV's to market in a short period of time, but if there are any issues with reliability or customer service, they will not succeed in the North American market. We are a fair channel and we both feel this is a fair review of vehicle we haven't driven. I am not a big fan of doing walk arounds at shows, I prefer to have the vehicle for a week and really get to know it but in the world of RU-vid, people want to see what is being offered early even if it's only a first look. This is a new brand, I do think they are expensive and time will tell how Vinfast does in the North American market.

@@andreaspencer9813 thank you for your honest opinion. You and Zack called out Honda on their pricing on so many videos. Once you get to drive these cars I look for your valuable and unbiased assessment of their product compared to competitors not only on features and performance but also on quality, brand equity, service and pricing

Andrea, thanks a lot for a comprehensive reply. The brand approach to marketing raises quite a few flags but I understand your position.

VF was running its mouth about a battery range of 280, 290 until EPA tested and said its actually 179-mile range. In VF is a small company of VinGroup which funded and protected by the Communist Vietnamese government. VG is not an automobile company nor any tech company at all besides real estate. VG came out with VinPhone and bankrupted, then VF was born and came out with gasoline car roughly 3 years ago then they bankrupted also. In Vietnam, if customers complain about Vinfast cars, then the law enforcement will be called and harassed the customers.

Why do you use the phrase " They compete with luxury brands ", the Vinfast people told you, or did you come up with it yourself?
@andreaspencer9813
@andreaspencer9813 Год назад
Vinfast feels they compete with more luxury brands, they are also priced to compete with them. The fit and finish of their interiors including soft materials used is more on par with luxury brands. I think overall at first glance they look pretty good, I don't know what reliability will be.

Even the VF8 Eco starts at just under $65,000 CAD, battery included and this VF9 starts at just under $104,000 CAD. These prices are quite high and compete with more luxury brand prices, not Kia, Hyundai, Toyota starting prices. I also don't see the VF8 on the list of qualified vehicles for the Federal EV rebate in Canada of $5,000 CAD unless it hasn't been added yet.

Nice car, but $105,000 in Canada?? Who's going to pay that for an unknown vehicle like this? Way too expensive. Pass!

Yes, I agree, they are going to have to adjust their pricing. It will be interesting to see what happens...
